Priceonomics Hipster/Bro Music Index:
IMAGE

If you've wondered what are the most hipster bands of today, well stop. The folks at Priceonomics figured it out, kinda, and it turns out The Field, Julia Holter, Iceage, These New Puritans top the list of "Most Hipster" bands. What exactly does that mean and how did they determine this? By comparing Pitchfork scores to the number of shares those reviews got on Facebook. The highest scores with the least shares being given the "most hipster" tag.

On the other end, records that got high P4K scores but lots of FB shares -- The National, Boards of Canada, Justin Timberlake, The Range -- were not hipster and topped their "Beer Me Bro" Music Index.

Kind of an interesting method, but the "most hipster" list also includes the very popular Disclosure and the very very very popular Drake. Maybe people just don't share Pitchfork reviews on bands they figure their friends already know? Maybe they should add a sales variable. Anyway, it's kind of interesting (and entertaining) and you can read more about it and peruse the full lists of Hipster and Bro bands over at Priceonomics.

Justin Timberlake @ MSG - 2/20/14
Justin Timberlake
Justin Timberlake

Justin Timberlake brought his current tour back to NYC for his first of two Madison Square Garden shows last night (2/20), his third NYC run in the past year. He played a good deal of both parts of The 20/20 Experience, including standouts like "Don't Hold the Wall," "Let the Groove Get In," "Mirrors" and more. Plenty of the older hits like "My Love," "SexyBack," "LoveStoned," and "Rock Your Body" were represented, and did a number of the covers he's been known to play lately like Frank Sinatra's "New York, New York," Elvis Presley's "Heartbreak Hotel," Michael Jackson's "Human Nature" and Kool & the Gang's "Jungle Boogie." Pictures of the show are in this post.

JT hits MSG again tonight (2/21), for his final NYC show of the week, which was rescheduled from Wednesday. Tickets for tonight's show are still available.

More pictures, video and setlist from last night, below...

JT

Justin Timberlake is currently on a tour which comes to NYC this week and was supposed to hit NYC tonight (2/19) and Thursday (2/20) at Madison Square Garden. Unfortunately, due to health reasons, JT had to postpone tonight's show until Friday (2/21). All tickets purchased for tonight's show will be honored on Friday, and you can still pick up tickets for both shows. If you can't make it on Friday, refunds are available at point of purchase.

Meyers, Armisen and the new 'Late Night' house band...
Armisen

Fred Armisen will be the bandleader on NBC's Late Night with Seth Meyers. The host (and former SNL Weekend Update anchor) tweeted the above picture this afternoon writing, "Fred will curate and lead the band, and continue to run it even when he's off shooting Portlandia." The rest of the band includes Girls Vs. Boys bassist (and big time indie rock producer ) Eli Janney and, as Stereogum notes, that the band looks to include Seth Jabour and Syd Butler of Les Savy Fav. Armisen and LSV are old pals. The new Late Night makes its debut on February 24 on NBC.

The Roots, meanwhile, will remain Jimmy Fallon's house band when he takes over The Tonight Show on February 17. (Keeping Questlove and crew was part of the reason the show is moving back to NYC.) Guests the first week of the show include Will Smith and U2 (2/17), Lady Gaga (2/18), The Arcade Fire (2/20) and, here's a shocker, Justin Timberlake (2/21).

In related news, Portlandia returns February 27 for its fourth season on IFC. Musical guest stars to look out for include TVOTR's Tunde Adebimpe, former Dead Kennedys frontman Jello Biafra, Wilco's Jeff Tweedy and QOTSA frontman Josh Homme.

Pazz & Jopp

The Village Voice's annual Pazz & Jop critics poll was published this week, surveying a whole mess of music writers and tallying up the vote. As with anything where it's a collective list, the winners won't be surprising to anyone who's perused 2013 Best Of lists. Kanye West, Vampire Weekend and Daft Punk top the LPs list; Daft Punk, Haim and Kanye have the top three singles. The late deadline for voting did, however, allow for the inclusion of Beyoncé's self-titled LP, which came in at #4.

You can check out the Top 20 LPs and Tracks in this post and peruse the whole lists at the Village Voice. You can also check out individual ballots and read essays on Kanye, Miley, R Kelly, the emo revival, and others, not to mention loads of pithy blurbs and pie charts.

The Brothers Gibb
Brothers Gibb

Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon returned to SNL last night (12/21) with Fallon hosting and JT as the musical guest, and of course both starring in a number of the skits as well. They brought back their Brothers Gibb skit, and were joined by Madonna playing herself, and the actual Barry Gibb (the only surviving original member of the Bee Gees) came in to sing with them at the end of the skit. Paul McCartney also showed up to sing "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" with Fallon, and Kanye West and Kim Kardashian were parodied again in a "Waking up with Kimye" sketch. You can watch videos of all those, along with one of Justin performing "Only When I Walk Away," below.

It was also announced on last night's show that Drake will host and be the musical guest on the January 18 episode. Drake recently landed on a couple more year-end lists, may have dissed Kendrick Lamar, and appeared on the new Beyonce album.

We've done some year-end lists in the past at BrooklynVegan, though you might notice that we're not the most consistent with them. This is for a few reasons, one being that with the varying tastes of our current group of contributors, we could never in a million years agree on a top 10, let alone an Album of the Year. So in an attempt to get around that obstacle, this year two BV writers, Bill Pearis and Andrew Sacher, have made individual lists of the albums they loved most which we think each represent different parts of 2013 here at BrooklynVegan. They both made top 20s (and only had two albums in common), with commentary on the top 10, and you can check out both lists below...

Pitchfork

Pitchfork is back with its much-anticipated Top 50 Albums of 2013 list. The list has many of the albums you'd expect to see on Pitchfork's list, though there's still some surprises. If you thought M.I.A got snubbed, you'll be happy to see her here, and if you thought James Blake deserved the Best New Music he didn't get, you'll be happy to see how high he ranks. The biggest surprise to me is that Majical Cloudz makes the top 10, and for those keeping score, Yeezus is NOT #1. Can you guess what is?

Head here to see individual writers' lists, and head below to see Pitchfork's full Top 50 Albums of 2013 list...

Pitchfork

Pitchfork just posted their Top 100 Tracks of 2013. It's got what some people might call the worst song ever, the song with the most talked-about rap verse of the year, some surprises, and some of the year's most undeniable songs. Their #1 pick is certainly one of those undeniable songs, whether or not you're a fan of the artist who made it. What do you think of their list? Did your favorite song make it? Any glaring omissions?

Check out the full top 100 below...

Beyonce

If you've been on the internet at all today, you probably know that the event of the day is that Beyonce released a self-titled album with no singles and no announcements on iTunes around midnight. By now you've most likely already heard it or intentionally haven't listened to it, and I think as much as anyone else that we shouldn't review this thing immediately (and we can save it for our Best of 2014 lists, right?). That being said, it's also been fun to spend the day discussing the album, so let's discuss.

The album's only guest spots come from deservedly big names Jay Z ("Drunk in Love") Frank Ocean ("Superpower") and Drake ("Mine"), plus a moving feminist speech from Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie on "Flawless" (a reworking of "Bow Down"), and her daughter Blue Ivy on the album's final track, "Blue." There's also co-writing/production credits from Miguel, Caroline Polachek (of Chairlift), Pharrell, Justin Timberlake, Timbaland, Sia, Drake producer Noah "40" Shebib and others. That cast isn't too surprising (except maybe Caroline Polachek), but it's a nice reminder if you needed it that certain big name artists are consistently working with the artists that complement them best, rather than just piling on other big name guests.

As I write this I'm on my fifth listen, and the album itself is sounding pretty impressive so far. Her last album, 4, was maybe the first Beyonce album to truly contain no filler, but even most of that album got overshadowed by standout singles like "Countdown" and "Love on Top." At the moment, it's not sounding like there's a track on Beyonce that could be a standout single, which is maybe why, like the similarly album-oriented Yeezus, they chose to release it without any preceding singles. (You also won't be able to purchase individual tracks on iTunes until December 20.) Like Yeezus, and The 20/20 Experience, Beyonce is instead a new album from a megastar that uses her status to unveil a full-length collection of forward-thinking music to the mainstream, the underground, and well, just about everybody. The future-R&B that guests Frank Ocean and Drake make on their own albums is the style most prevalent here, and mixing that with one of the most undeniably great voices in today's pop music makes Beyonce a hell of a listen.

You also may have heard that Beyonce is calling the album a "visual album," and it was released with 17 videos for the 14 tracks (a few bonus videos included). You can watch a playlist of 30-second clips of each video, along with the tracklist, below...

SPIN

It's the first work week of December and the year-end music lists for 2013 keep piling in. We just saw album lists from Q and Mojo, and now we get a list from a US publication, SPIN. There's not too many surprises on this one. Like last year, it shares its #1 with the highest Pitchfork-rated album of the year, and in general it features many of the albums we expect to see on these kinds of lists, including a lot of the year's big-name comebacks like My Bloody Valentine, Justin Timberlake, Daft Punk, Queens of The Stone Age, Boards of Canada and Nine Inch Nails, plus big breakouts like Haim and Disclosure. There are a few interesting omissions though, like Savages.

Check out their full list below...

Haim

Haim just made their SNL debut over the weekend, playing "Don't Save Me" and "The Wire," as well as appearing in a sketch that uses The Outfield's mega-'80s hit "Your Love" in a pretty funny way. It was a highlight of an especially lackluster episode of SNL, and you can watch all three clips in this post. Since their appearance, Este Haim's "bass face" -- already an internet meme -- is now full-on sensation, perhaps you've seen it on your Facebook timeline via every one of your friends.

In other news, both of Haim's Terminal 5 shows in May -- including the second show which was just added -- are sold out.

Meanwhile, Saturday Night Live has announced the hosts and musical guests from the remainder of 2013 which looks hopeful on the funny front: Paul Rudd hosts on December 7 with a second appearance from UK boy band One Direction; and John Goodman returns for his 13th hosting job with Kings of Leon as musical guests.

Then on December 21, SNL gifts us with what will be the year's most anticipated show: Jimmy Fallon will host with (surprise!) Justin Timberlake performing. SNL writers usually bring their A-game to a JT episode (expect a return of the Brothers Gibb), and this one will also be a way to remind folks that in the new year, Jimmy Fallon will be moving to The Tonight Show and current "Weekend Update" anchor Seth Meyers will becoming the new Late Night, both of whom will start their new jobs on February 24.

Justin Timberlake at Barclays Center - 11/16/13 (via @liliana_lgd)
JT

Justin Timberlake just brought his tour through the NYC-area for a few dates with The Weeknd including a show at Brooklyn's Barclays Center last week (11/6). Check out JT's 30+ song setlist and videos of both artists from the show, below.

Justin's tour comes back to NYC for a show on February 19 at MSG, and since we last spoke, he's added a ton of more dates, including another show happening at MSG (2/20) a day later. Tickets for that show go on sale November 18 at 10 AM with Fan Club/Mastercard presales starting today (11/13) at 10 AM and Live Nation/Mobile App/Venue/Facebook presales starting Friday (11/15) at 10 AM. There are some tickets left for the first night, but "not many." No openers for these shows announced yet.

Updated dates are listed, along with videos and setlist from Barclays, below...

Justin Timberlake at Yankee Stadium in July (more by Dana (distortion) Yavin)
JT

Justin Timberlake is in a rare position where he's one of the biggest pop stars on the planet, but on (at least the first part of) his new album, he's doing the kind of forward-thinking R&B that usually comes from newer, comparatively smaller artists. So it's a welcome announcement that he's taking one of those smaller artists, The Weeknd, on tour with him. The Weeknd will open this week's NYC-area dates that happen on 11/6 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, 11/7 at XL Center in Hartford, and 11/9 at IZOD Center in NJ. Tickets for all three shows are still available. No opener has been announced for JT's MSG show (2/19) yet.

The Weeknd brought his own tour to NYC for two nights at Radio City in October, and after the JT tour, he'll open for Drake (who also played NYC in October) on his European tour.

All dates are listed below...

JT

Justin Timberlake has a bunch of North American dates coming up, including a previously discussed stop at Brooklyn's Barclays Center on November 6 and NJ's IZOD Center on November 9, both of which tickets are still available for. He's just added way more dates into 2014, and the newly expanded tour will bring him back to NYC for a show at Madison Square Garden on February 19. (Not his first time there.) Tickets for that show go on sale Monday (9/30) at 10 AM with a Fan Club presale starting Wednesday (9/25) at 10 AM and Live Nation/Mobile App/Venue/Facebook presales starting Friday (9/27) at 10 AM. Updated dates are listed below.

JT is set to release the second part of his 2013 album, The 20/20 Experience, next week (9/30), but he's currently streaming the whole thing on iTunes. Part 2 gives us 11 more songs and 74+ more minutes of music (hidden track included) from Justin, Timbaland, and co., plus guest verses from Drake and Jay Z. If you liked the boundary-pushing pop of part 1, you'll probably dig much of part 2 too.

Updated dates are listed, along with streams of two album tracks -- "Take Back the Night" and "TKO" -- below...

Danny Brown

Danny Brown's Old is one of the most anticipated rap albums of the year, and while holding your breath for a rap release is never a good idea (we've got our fingers crossed for that September 30 release date though), we're feeling one step closer to Old actually seeing the light of day, now that it's officially got album artwork. And pretty great artwork at that. That's it above (via Danny's instagram). It was designed by Sam Chirnside, and the painting is by Leila D'Amato. His newish video for "ODB" is below.

Danny recently made appearances at Afro-Punk Fest, Fool's Gold Day Off, and the NYU Mystery Concert, and he's set to play Rock the Bells NJ in October and open for Sleigh Bells at Terminal 5 in November.

Meanwhile, the group Danny is a part of, Bruiser Brigade will be playing NYC without him (he'll be at Rock the Bells in California) on September 15 at Mercury Lounge. The Detroit crew will be joined by some hometown pals like producer Nick Speed (50 Cent, M.O.P., Talib Kweli) and rapper Dusty McFly, in addition to NYC producer Hillie Hill (Nas, Biggie) and A La $ole of Joey Bada$$'s Pro Era crew. Tickets for that show are on sale now.

There's some other good rap shows coming in NYC too, including afro-beat rapper Blitz the Ambassador, who is headlining The Studio at Webster Hall on September 19 with opening sets from Old Money, Boima, and Caktuz. Tickets for that show are on sale now.

Eve, who's got a new album out this year, was supposed to play Irving Plaza back in August, but she'll instead play Gramercy Theatre on September 12. Opening the show is Dyme-A-Duzin (of Phony PPL) and Camille Safiya. Tickets are on sale now, and any tickets purchased for Irving Plaza are being honored.

Not exactly rap, but neo-soul singer Bilal, who released his solid new album A Love Surreal earlier this year, will play the New School Alumni Jazz Night at Highline Ballroom on September 18. Tickets for that show are on sale now.

Stalley, who plays Rock the Bells NJ, and Gunplay play Gramercy Theatre on October 18 (which is during CMJ). Tickets for that show go on sale Friday (9/6) at noon.

Legendary hip hop duo Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth, who played a Central Park show earlier this summer, play BB King's on November 13 with Camp Lo. Tickets for that show are on sale now.

Yo Gotti just released his new mixtape, Nov 19th: The Mixtape, and he'll play NYC on November 19 at BB KIng's with Y.G., Ca$h Out, Shy Glizzy, and Zed Zilla. Tickets for that show are on sale now.

Drake

On the topic of anticipated rap albums, which we were talking about above, Drake also shed some more light on his new album, Nothing Was The Same, which is due out on September 24. He just revealed the tracklist which features previously released singles "Started From the Bottom" and "Hold On, We're Going Home," and "All Me" appears as a bonus track on the deluxe edition. The only guest rappers are Jay Z and Detail. Check out the full tracklist below, and that's the artwork above.

Both Drake and Jay Z appear on the second installment of Justin Timberlake's The 20/20 Experience, which is due out September 30. Justin returns to NYC to play Barclays Center on November 6. Tickets for that show are still available (though Ticketmaster says "not many left"). Artwork and tracklist for his new LP, below.

Drake also plays Barclays Center (10/28) on his tour with Miguel and Future. Tickets for that show are still available.

Things aren't looking so bright in Miguel's world lately, as he was just charged with two counts of DUI after his August arrest.

A$AP Rocky also just faced some legal charges. TMZ reports that due to an incident that occurred while he was performing at Jay Z's Made In America Festival, Rocky was charged with misdemeanor simple assault for allegedly slapping a woman in the crowd. TMZ writes, "The woman claims A$AP was trying to make his way through a crowd of dancing fans -- with a bunch of girls pulling on his shirt -- when A$AP turned and fired off an open-hand slap, connecting with her face. The woman claims she was injured from the alleged slap -- suffering whiplash from the impact." It's not the first time he was accused of something like this.

A$AP Rocky and Drake's third "Fuckin' Problems" partner, Kendrick Lamar, will be in NYC with his Black Hippy friends Ab-Soul and Jay Rock, plus young Brooklyn rapper Bishop Nehru, on September 10 at Williamsburg Park. Tickets for that show are still available.

Meanwhile, the man behind the hook on "Fuckin' Problems," 2 Chainz, will NOT be at Williamsburg Park, because despite being scheduled to play five days after Kendrick, he cancelled his show.

What other hip hop shows in NYC are you excited for? And when is Schoolboy Q's album coming out???

an arial view of Phoenix
Phoenix

During a typical week at BrooklynVegan we end up posting a lot of new videos. This week, for example, we had clips from Antwon, Rituals, Saint Rich and more. But there are many more we don't get to... which is where this post comes in handy. Play catch-up with the latest eye candy from Phoenix, Disappears, Saint Rich, Anna Calvi, Jay Z & Justin Timberlake, Dizzee Rascal, and Frightened Rabbit, below.

Justin Timberlake

Last night (8/28), Justin Timberlake tweeted "Join me & @Target tonight for just one song. Let's "Take Back the Night." First 150 get in. See you there!" with a picture of a microphone, a clock with 30 minutes on it, and Hoboken venue Maxwell's, which closed its doors at the end of last month. According to NJ.com, it's because last night JT was filming a video for Target (where he has a clothing line) at Maxwell's:

There are thousands of people in front of the club at Washington and 11th streets, according to news photographer Joe Shine. Throngs of media are on the scene.

Timberlake's wife, actress Jessica Biel was spotted near his trailer.

Police are using loudspeakers to try to keep the streets clear, but it is of little use, according to Journal staff writer Michaelangelo Conte.

There are people on every corner, people are standing in the streets 10 feet from the sidewalk, Conte said.

There is a big trailer parked outside. Inside Maxwell's is dimly lit and the star cannot be seen, Conte said.

So The Bongos and "a" wasn't the last show at Maxwell's after all? Will his video be as fondly remembered as "Glory Days?"

This all happened just after JT was in Brooklyn for the VMAs at Barclays Center. Video of his VMAs performance (in case you missed it) below...

Taylor Swift realizing *NSYNC appeared on stage
Taylor Swift

From many points in Brooklyn, one could look up and see the lit up blimp in the air hovering over the Barclays Center yesterday (8/25). It was where the overhead shots were being filmed during the pre-show which included the big crowds outside around the Brooklyn streets that MTV got closed down to create the red carpet for the VMAs....

A red carpet, set up on Dean Street near Flatbush Avenue, was completely invisible to many non-ticketed fans and the general public who were mainly cordoned in a pen at the Best Buy on Atlantic Avenue between Fort Greene Place and Sixth Avenue.

Another penned area, at Sixth Avenue and Bergen Street, gave a small group of fans a distant peek at the carpet, but it was still a full city block away.

"Obviously they can't let everyone in for security reasons, but we can't see anything at all," said Donna Hall, 28, who came from Queens. "I've been out here with my friends since 3 p.m. and we've been trying to find the best vantage point possible, but we settled here because at least we could see a glimpse of the red carpet. [DNA Info]

Meanwhile, during the ceremony, we got performances from Kanye West (playing "Blood on the Leaves," not "Black Skinhead"), Justin Timberlake (on-stage *NSYNC reunion included), Drake, Kendrick Lamar (joining Robin Thicke, who, um, palled around with Miley Cyrus on stage), Lady Gaga (playing her new EDM-inspired single), and more.

Daft Punk didn't perform, but they did walk the red carpet and sit in the audience in their masks which they also wore to present 'Best Female Music Video' with Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers. They also debuted part of the video for "Lose Yourself to Dance."

Vampire Weekend, who are headlining the Barclays Center in September, presented an award to One Direction.

Jay-Z and Beyonce were strangely nowhere to be found.

Eminem also pulled a Jay Z and announced his new album, MMLP2 (the sequel to 2000's Marshall Mathers LP), in a commercial that aired during the VMAs. The album was executive produced by Dr. Dre and Rick Rubin, and it's due out November 5. Meanwhile, the single, "Berserk," will drop this Tuesday (8/27).

And before it all began, Grimes co-hosted the Red Carpet Report. Who wore it better, Grimes or 2 Chainz?

If you watched, what did you think? Should Miley Cyrus stop being so trashy? Should Robin Thicke stop being so creepy? Should Kanye stop being so serious? Does Justin Timberlake have really long arms? Does anyone really care that *NSYNC showed up (for a minute and a half)? If you didn't watch, or need a refresher, some videos from the night are below...

Continue reading "VMAS happened at Barclays Center: Kanye, Kendrick, Justin Timberlake, *NSYNC & more performed, Eminem announced an LP, Vampire Weekend met One Direction, & more (videos)"

Grimes at Coachella 2013 (more by Wei Shi)
Grimes

Traffic hasn't been as bad around the Barclays Center as opponents thought it would be when the Brooklyn arena was first announced. We think that may not be true this Sunday (8/25) though as MTV takes over the room to film the live telecast of the VMAs. Everyone from Kanye West to Katy Perry to Daft Punk to Robin Thicke are going to be there or are rumored to be there. Prince is in town. So is Perez Hilton.

Grimes (who is not shy about her love of pop) is getting in on the action too. MTV Hive reports:

The 2013 Video Music Awards are near, and to herald their arrival on Sunday, August 25, MTV is launching the VMA All Access Experience, 5 days of livestreamed performances and VMA moments starting NOW! And, get this, Grimes will be making a special appearance!

...

Show day, however, has got MTV Hive pumped -- not only because the 2013 Video Music Awards features the likes of Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake and Kanye West, but because Grimes, along with designer Rachel Antonoff, will co-host MTV Style's Red Carpet Report (6 p.m. ET Sunday). Perhaps she'll wear one of her pussy rings? One can dream.

Meanwhile, Justin Timberlake will be receiving the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award during the VMAs, and it's been announced that his 'History of Rap' partner Jimmy Fallon will be the one presenting it to him. Justin is also rumored to be reuniting on stage at the VMAs with his old boy band *NSYNC. Maybe you've heard of them.

You can watch the broadcast on vma.mtv.com.

Later this year (and more South), Grimes will be playing some festivals, including Austin's ACL Fest in October, Mexico City's Corona Capital Fest in October, and a Young Turks party in Mexico on New Year's Eve.

still from 'Inside Llewyn Davis'
Inside Llewyn Davis

Inside Llewyn Davis is the new Coen Brothers film starring Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, John Goodman, Garrett Hedlund and Justin Timberlake, which has been on the festival circuit this year (including this fall's New York Film Festival) and will open in December. The music in the film was executively produced by T-Bone Burnett, and mostly consists of covers of old folk songs. The soundtrack will be released on November 12 via Nonesuch.

The film's music will be celebrated and performed in NYC on September 29 at Town Hall during a big concert that features Jack White, Patti Smith, Colin Meloy (The Decemberists), Conor Oberst, Joan Baez, Marcus Mumford, Gillian Welch & David Rawlings, Punch Brothers, Avett Brothers, Milk Carton Kids, Rhiannon Giddens (Carolina Chocolate Drops), and more, in addition to some of the film's cast, including Oscar Isaac, John Goodman, Carey Mulligan, and Stark Sands.

Tickets for the show go on sale Wednesday (8/21) at noon with a presale beginning Tuesday (8/20) at noon. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the National Recording Preservation Foundation.

Jay Z and Justin Timberlake @ Yankee Stadium - 7/19/2013
Jay Z and Justin Timberlake @ Yankee Stadium - 7/19/2013

"Three years ago, Jay Z performed at Yankee Stadium's first concert, bringing out Kanye West, Beyonce, Eminem, Drake, Coldplay's Chris Martin and Swizz Beatz. [Friday night], the focus is on Jay and Justin Timberlake, with only Alicia Keys appearing for "Empire State of Mind" and Timbaland showing up for "SexyBack." Before "Empire," Timberlake breaks into Frank Sinatra's "New York, New York," and while not the rousing, stadium-wide singalong the duo might have intended it to be, it signaled Jay's umpteenth attempt to remind you that he is the new Sinatra. Or something. While Kanye's output in the past decade has been hip hop's most intriguing and innovative, tonight's show proved that Jay's King of the Universe title remains unchallenged." [Fuse]
Justin Timberlake and Jay Z (not Jay-Z) played their first of two shows at Yankee Stadium on Friday night (7/19). They do it again tonight/Saturday (7/20).
