Union Pool have announced more performers for this year's free Summer Thunder series. New additions include Kid Congo Powers & Pink Monkey Birds and a reunion of shitgaze ragers K-Holes on July 25, and new Matador Records signee Steve Gunn will play Summer Thunder on August 29.
There are some additions to already-announced shows as well. The May 30 kickoff show with Hector's Pets will also feature sets from party punks Metalleg and Slam Section. The highly anticipated (by us at least) June 27 Destruction Unit show has now gotten better, with the addition of Pampers and Cheena.
The June 13 Blues Control show now also has Hex Message (who've toured with Gang Gang Dance) and Ohal. And the Summer Thunder edition of JD Samson's PAT party now includes a live performance by "gender-problematizing goth dance band," Bottoms.
Summer Thunder happens Saturdays from May 30 through August 29 at Union Pool from 2 PM - 6 PM. Free, 21+. For more info and updates, check out Summer Thunder's facebook.
Though not part of Summer Thunder, Union Pool will be having an "Afternoon Hang" on Saturday afternoon (5/23) in the front room, featuring cellist Clara Kennedy, J. Leisure and DJ Mike Wolf. That starts at 2 PM and is free. Flyer for that, and the updated 2015 Summer Thunder schedule, is below...
Members of K Holes and Bezoar will open Worship, a new vintage shop in Bushwick (117 Wilson Ave) that will be focused on "artists and musicians influence on fashion through the decades". The opening party will go down on Saturday (8/24) from 4-10PM and feature the art of Seth from Hunx and his Punx, in his first ever art show. The art show is free and open to the public and will be an excellent primer for Hunx's show at Death by Audio with Hunters, Las Rosas, and 2 Pretty later that night.

Acid Baby Jesus
Montreal's Hellshovel and Greek band Acid Baby Jesus are old buds, having met in the latter's home city of Athens in 2010 which resulted in a collaboration called Voyager 8 which you can stream below. The two bands, both on Slovenly Recordings, have similar psych-garage sounds and the joint record is pleasingly twisted. You can also stream each band's most recent LPs below as well.
Three years later, Hellshovel and Acid Baby Jesus are together again for a big North American tour which starts here in NYC with two shows: tonight (2/22) at The Bell House with The Psyched, Twin Guns, The Recordettes, The Mess-Around and WFMU's Dave the Spazz on DJ duties (tickets); and Cake Shop on Saturday (2/23) with Livids and K HOLES.
All Hellshovel/Acid Baby Jesus Dates are listed below.

Ty Segall just released a video for "Thank God for the Sinners," the stomping lead s the lead track off last year's great Twins. In the clip, he gets a hand (and a foot, and a few torsos) from some anonymous folk. Do watch to the jaw-dropping end. Video is below.
Ty hits the road this weekend for a tour with Ex-Cult that lands in NYC on February 1 at Webster Hall with Mac Demarco on the bill as well, and then the recently added Feb 2 show at Music Hall of Williamsburg that also has K-Holes playing. Tickets for both shows are still available.
Ty's added a few dates in other cities as well. His updated tour schedule and the new video, below...

Ty also just announced that he'll stick around NYC for a more intimate show at Music Hall of Williamsburg the next day (2/2) with K-Holes and Ex-Cult. Tickets for that show go on sale today (1/11) at noon.

Night Beats at MHOW, April 2012 (more by Joe McCabe)
Seattle's garagey Night Beats are currently on tour with Black Angels, which rolls into Chicago tonight (8/3) at Double Door which is one of the many official Lollapalooza afterparties. While this fuzzed-out double feature doesn't hit NYC, Night Beats will be here on Monday, August 6, headlining Knitting Factory. The show is with K-Holes and Mmoss. Tickets are still available. We're also giving away a pair of tickets to this show and details on how to enter are at the bottom of this post.
The tour with Black Angels wraps up Aug 11 in Little Rock, AR but Night Beats will continue on through the South West, including a free Psych Fest/Sailor Jerry show in Austin at Red 7 on August 15 with co-headliners The UFO Club (aka Christian Bland from Black Angels and Lee Blackwell from Night Beats), Fungi Girls, Cheap Curls and Holy Wave. Austin folk can RSVP for that here.
UFO Club are releasing their self titled debut LP on August 13 (preorder), the followup to last year's split with Night Beats. You can check out cover art, tracklist, a stream of album track "July," and a live video of album track "John the Cat" in this post.
