Boston Strangler You might have missed it, but Boston Strangler released an incredible demo with the ultra-limited Outcast cassette last year. The band, which is primarily the brainchild of vocalist Ban Reilly (also of the incredible Scapegoat) (get their latest now... highly reccomended), has enlisted members of Mind Eraser, Rival Mob, Social Circkle, and a few notable others to churn out some incredible early 80s-style negative hardcore. The band plays a rare show at Acheron on September 17th with Beware (mems of Mother of Mercy). check out some live video below.

The show cancellation count keeps growing. The previously discussed cancellations of shows at the Acheron (including Victims/Defeatist on Sunday), is joined by the latest victim of Irene, Vreid, Kampfar, Necronomicon, and Grafvolluth at Europa. As more shows cancel, we'll keep you posted.

Corrupted have released their previously discussed new LP, Garten Der Unbewusstheit. Look for it at your favorite distro like Aquarius or Crucial Blast.

Unsane is working on new music.

Yob is releasing Live at Roadburn 2010 via Burning World Records on CD/DVD on September 1st with vinyl to follow. Preorder it now. For those curious about the video, stream it in its entirety below.

Easy Action (with John Brannon of Negative Approach) will team with Kicking Spit (who we previously profiled) and Foster Care to play Acheron on September 26th. Negative Approach makes their return to Fun Fun Fun Fest in November.

Krallice played House of Vans on Wednesday, and in addition to their previously discussed show at Union Pool on 9/17 with Urfaust/Black Anvil, the band has added a show at Death By Audio on 9/14 with Wolves In The Throne Room and Thou.

DC's Give will headline Acheron on 9/9 with Devotion and Too Many Voices (mems of Kill Your Idols).

Karma To Burn are back on the road, and hit Saint Vitus with awesome Black Pyramid and Bezoar on Sept 8th. Full tour schedule is below. KTB's newest album, V, is out now.

Stream three new Speedwolf songs from their forthcoming LP on Hells Headbangers.

All Karma To Burn tour dates, more suggested NYC shows, and some video of Boston Strangler as well as classic video of Sulaco, Spazz, Crossed Out, and Neurosis, below...

Naam at the Action PR showcase at SXSW (more here)
Naam

Naam will headline Cake Shop on June 9th alongside support from Richmond's downtuned miscreants Cough, the rifftastic Elder, and Brooklyn's own Elks as part of a BV/1000 Knives production. $10 gets you in the door.

The show is one of a pair that Naam will play with the mighty Elks, as both will support Karma To Burn and Year Long Disaster at Knitting Factory on Friday (5/14). Want to go? I have two pairs of tickets and one copy of Karma to Burn's new album Appalachian Incantation to give away, details on how to win are at the bottom of this post. Appalachian Incantation hits store shelves on 5/18.

Naam is also scheduled to play the NY Eye & Ear Fest on My 23rd. Black Dogs, Liturgy, Effi Brest, Twin Stumps, Blondes, Hunters, and more will all play the fest over the show's two days. Tickets are still up for May 22nd, May 23rd, or both.

Cough last played NYC as part of the BV Northside Fest show at Europa alongside Doomriders, Sourvein, Unearthly Trance, and many others. Unearthly Trance will be back for Northside Fest this year, this time as part of the BV/1000 Knives production of Floor at Europa. Karma To Burn on 4/20 at Lit Lounge (more by Justina Villaneuva)
KTB

After a short post-reunion lap around the eastern seaboard earlier this year, stoner rockers Karma To Burn are hitting the studio to break off a new album, their first in eight years. The band, featuring a RECENTLY former member of Nebula (he left the band to concentrate on KTB), will employ Mathias Schneeberger (Gutter Twins) to record the Napalm Records debut for a spring 2010 release. Karma To Burn also has a DVD due for Napalm on 12/15 featuring a re-recording of "Twenty" (a video of that is below) and "Thirty". The refreshed audio for "Twenty" will also make an appearance on an upcoming split 7-inch with mighty North Carolinians ASG.

KTB last played NYC in April at Lit Lounge; download the ENTIRE set from that show above. The trio are scheduled to descend upon Europe in the next two months, after playing a single US date: Spaceland in Los Angeles on 11/6. Full tour dates are below.

Nebula, sans drummer Rob Oswald and avec Adam Kriney of La Otracina, played the BV Day Party at Fontana's on 10/23.

Javelina @ the Northside BV-BBG Showcase (more by Jason Walker)
Javelina

Alright! I get it. Doomriders rules. Revocation is up there. There's a new Converge and Baroness on the way. But even with all of those great releases, it suprises me that Javelina isn't near some of the top of those lists. The band's filthy debut was a monster and their new one, Beasts Among Sheep, only adds to their considerable reputation. If you are a fan of the last LP, this one is a must have. Dig on "Stepchild" above and preorder the limited edition LP version of Javelina's Beasts Among Sheep via Brutal Panda Records and the CD version via Translation Loss.

Speaking of that Doomriders album, Darkness Come Alive is out NOW via Deathwish Records. Though the party vibe that permeated through Black Thunder is mostly gone, it has been replaced by a propulsive punk rock fury and, at times, a Misfits-era Danzig croon (see "Come Alive")! There are quite a few killer moments on this long-player, but we present to you the most "fuck you" of them all, the galloping "Lions" downloadable above!

In our last round up, we shined a light on into the deepest fathoms of Australia and the truly frightening Portal. The band's claustrophobic and positively frightening new death metal LP, Swarth, relies as much on freak-out atmosphere as it does killer discordant riffery. Swarth is due out on 10/20 via Profound Lore and we have a second taste in the form of "Omenknow" above.
Misery Index have completed four new songs and are looking to enter the studio in early 2010 to record their follow up to Traitors! Stoked.

Iron Age @ Cake Shop (more by Jason Walker)
Iron Age

I still remember that kick ass Cake Shop show with Iron Age, Mind Eraser, and Sex Vid, and walking out of that show wanting more. Thankfully, I can add to those great memories with a PAIR of Iron Age shows in the coming weeks! First up, the rowdy Texans will team up with the great Mother of Mercy (profiled here) for a show at Cake Shop (10/16). The next day (10/17), look for the band to pull a double header with a day show at Generation Records and a night show at The Charleston with Brain Killer, Naam & Descender. Speaking of Mind Eraser, the band will team up with the kick ass Iron Lung for a string of east coast dates which will include Cake Shop on 11/8! Full Iron Age and Iron Lung dates are below.

Black Skies will release the limited edition vinyl from their 2008 EP Hexagon on I'm Better Than Everyone Else Records. The Chapel Hill doom trio is currently on the hunt for drummer #5, but not before blessing us with some seriously killer riffage in the form of "Smoke & Mirrors" above. Preorder Hexagon here.

Power Pellut is also releasing their debut LP via I'm Better than Everyone Else Records. Preorder that here and dig on "Black Betty" from that LP above!

Church of Misery will release a live record culled from their recent set at Roadburn 2009! More details are to come, but look for Burning World to do the honors in November/December of this year. In the meantime, dig on this killer live video from Roadburn 2009!

That video, news on Kowloon Walled City, Boris, Asphyx, Struck By Lightning, Ringworm, Repulsion and more!

Karma to Burn

Karma to Burn is a desert rock/psychedelic rock band from Morgantown, West Virginia comprising guitarist William Mecum, bassist Rich Mullins and drummer Nathan Limbaugh (later to be replaced by Rob Oswald for Wild, Wonderful Purgatory). The band were noted for their uncompromising instrumental sound, echoing that of such desert rock bands as Kyuss and the Obsessed, although the band's preferred genre is "malternative". The band unofficially disbanded sometime in mid-2002, when bassist Rich Mullins joined Speedealer. Currently, Mullins is playing in the Los Angeles based band Year Long Disaster, Oswald is playing drums in Nebula, and Will Mecum is playing guitar for Treasure Cat. -[Wiki]
Karma to Burn played their first NYC show, since reuniting earlier this year, at Lit Lounge on April 20th. They were joined by Mabus, and the awesome Tiger Flowers. I unfortunately got to the show moments before Karma To Burn, missing both openers, but I am a fan of Tiger Flowers' discordant take on hardcore.

The threesome blasted through their numbered setlist (all of their "number" songs, that is), concentrating on later, post-Roadrunner/post-vocalist material. These guys definitely still have it, and I assume that if they had some more lead-time and some PR, these boys would have (and should have) been playing a venue twice the size (not that I'm complaining.... just meant a more concentrated dose of stoner-y metal for those of us in attendance). Hopefully they'll come back again. In the meantime, Karma To Burn have a couple dates on the West Coast, including one with Year Long Disaster, before they hit Europe in June and part of July.

All tour dates and more pictures from the show, below...

Hull
Bloody Panda

Brooklyn's own Hull will release Sole Lord via The End Records on May 26th. Spanning ten tracks over 44 minutes, and boasting art work by Josh Graham, look for the the band to kill it TONIGHT (4/16) at Union Pool when they open for the mighty Withered joined by Book of Black Earth and Hallux.

Withered's OTHER touring partners, Marduk, will enter Endarker studios in early May to record the follow-up to Rom 5:12, or their eleventh studio album. Look for it to drop in September, followed by the Funeral Nation World Tour 2009 and into 2010. Marduk will be at Irving Plaza on May 21 with Withered and Mayhem. Tickets are still available.

It a stroke of awesome luck, KARMA TO f'n BURN will be in NYC next monday (4/20) at Lit Lounge along with the mighty Tiger Flowers. Clear your schedules.

Landmine Marathon who I to NYC tommorrow (4/17) to slay The Charleston, are currently taking a break from writing their new album for Prosthetic. No word on when that record will show its ugly face, but in the mean time, make sure to... get. Your ass. To. The. Charleston!

Ringworm are currently writing their new album, The Ninth Circle, hoping to hit the studio this summer for a fall release on Victory Records. Ringworm dropped The Venomous Grand Design on Victory in 2007.

Saint Vitus LIVE (more by Firebaugh)
Saint Vitus

Over the past weekend (April 11), Saint Vitus played a single US date in New Orleans, where they were joined on stage by Pepper Keenan (Down, COC), Jimmy Bower (Down, Eyehategod), and Phil Anselmo (Pantera, Down). Luckily there was a camera in attendance, and you can watch the entire show here. Saint Vitus will headline at Roadburn this weekend. Me jealous.

Municipal Waste have announced completion of Massive Aggressive, their new album recorded with Zeuss. Look for it August 24th on Earache. Meanwhile, you can face the Waste at Roseland with Lamb Of God, Children Of Bodom, and As I Lay Dying. Tickets are still available.

Victims have added Raging Speedhorn guitarist Gareth Smith, and will drop a new 7" entitled Lies Lies Lies on Deathwish. Meanwhile, make sure to catch the Swedish crew on tour with Trap Them and Black Breath!

The previously announced Buried Inside date as part of Show No Mercy (5/3), will serve as one date on a four stop New York state tour. Show No Mercy at Public Assembly is scheduled for 5/3 with headliners A Life Once Lost, Rosetta, and repeat offenders Wetnurse.

Bison BC are riding high off of their killer record from last year, Quiet Earth, and Death By Audio will be the bands first appearance since they played Europa with Harvey Milk. Full Bison BC tour dates are below.

The Devil & The Sea
TD TS

One record that I gave alot of spins in 2008, but didnt make my year end faves was The Devil & The Sea's Heart vs Spine (pick that up here). The band is gearing up to tour the Northeast and have added a date at The Charleston on Mar 31st with another band that has been ringing my ears lately, Music Hates You. Full tour dates are below.

Justin K Broadrick dropped a MEGA-update on all of his projects, including Jesu, GreyMachine (with Aaron Turner), White Static Demon, Solaris BC and his many many remix projects. On the Jesu front, look for TWO live LPs, Opiate Sun EP in July, Infinity in June, Heart Ache reissue with a bonus Unreleased EP from 2003, and a reissue of the ENVY/jesu with an "Unconfirmed Bonus Mix". Check out the full update here.

Grief have called it quits... again. Sob. Their appearance at Maryland Deathfest has been cancelled as well. In honor of the fallen, Kill That Cat posted a video from a show before they kicked the bucket for the first time. Check that out below.
