Oneida at Ecstatic Music Fest (more by David Andrako)
As previously mentioned, live concert recording site NYC Taper just turned five years old and is throwing a party at 285 Kent on Saturday (5/12) to celebrate, with performances by Oneida, Sightings and Prince Ruperts Drops. Joining Oneida onstage will be James McNew of Yo La Tengo/Dump fame and Greg Fox (Guardian Alien/GDFX). If you can't make it, we're going to guess someone will make an downloadable audio document of it. Meanwhile peruse NYC Taper's awesome catalog of nearly live recordings. There's nearly 1000 of them at present -- like the recent Lower Dens show at Glasslands, and the Crystal Stilts/Woods show that took place at 285 Kent last weekend. The flyer for the NYC Taper show is at the bottom of this post.
While we're talking about 285 Kent, tonight (5/11) the Brooklyn venue hosts an evening of electronic avant garde and noise, with former Yellow Swan man Pete Swanson, Keith Fullerton Whitman, Forma, and SSPS.
Then on Sunday (5/13), Woodsist Records is throwing a record release party for MV&EE's Space Homestead, with a live performance by the band as well as Steve Gunn and Herbcraft. MV&EE have some tour dates coming up and those are below, along with a stream of a song from the new album....

TV Smith won't be at the Mercury Lounge tonight because of visa problems. He is expected to make his Thursday gig at the MHOW with Jay Reatard and Screaming Females though. At the Mercury Lounge you can still catch Fake Problems, Kiss Kiss, Paper and Sand, and Alone at 3am.
Jay Reatard is wearing a Lovvers shirt in that picture up there. Lovvers are visiting the US later this month.
Keith Fullerton Whitman was supposed to play the Issue Project Room. The venue's website reads, "TONIGHT'S CONCERT IS CANCELLED. MANY APOLOGIES."
Original Múm member and Avey Tare collaborator Kria Brekkan will join Ásdís Sif Gunnarsdótir at Sycamore tonight.
Harlem Shakes headline the Bowery Ballroom tonight. See their brand new video, for the song "Strictly Game," below.

Conrad Schnitzler's Con-Cert: If thunder was a distant, beautiful room moving towards you with you in it, this is what it would feel like to feel your way around it's edges. Made me think of the following Germans: early Tangerine Dream, early and late Klaus Schulze, Elmar Schulte, and Asmus Tietchens. Yet, it didn't sound like any of them. A masterful abuse/finessing of the ping . . . low, high, and middle. I haven't mentioned my confusion as to who was actually playing here, but I think I've figured it out. Keith Fullerton Whitman was at the controls, the conduit through which Schnitzler flowed. Nice torch. [Heart as Arena]Last Sunday (5/17) simultaneously marked the end of NYC Popfest and No Fun Fest here in NYC. Today simultaneously marked the end of photo coverage of both events here on BrooklynVegan.com. No Fun one is HERE, and day two is HERE, and the bit we have of Day Three (Lori really was not having fun by this day), is below...
