Greg Rogove

PIANA is an album of instrumental, solo piano pieces written by Gregory Rogove and performed by John Medeski (Medeski Martin & Wood). It also includes a DVD of musical and visual reinterpretations, or "remixes," of the piano pieces.
Piana is out now on Knitting Factory Records. The full tracklist and list of remixers is below. The Billy Martin (also of Medeski Martin & Wood) remix is downloadable for free for the first (legal) time above.

Gregory Rogove, who you may also know from his work with Devendra Banhart, Priestbird and Megapuss (Devendra Banhart, Fabrizio Moretti, Gregory Rogove), will be performing songs from Piana on the previously mentioned 'Alone Together Tour' As you know:

The tour, consisting of a West Coast and East Coast run, will kick off on April 7 in Brooklyn, NY and will include three instrumentalists from different-but-related musical communities stepping out of the band atmosphere to present their solo compositions. The tour line-up includes Gregory Rogove and Sarah Neufeld (Arcade Fire/Bell Orchestre / violin) on all dates, Billy Martin (Medeski Martin Wood / percussion) on the east coast leg, Colin Stetson (Bon Iver, Laurie Anderson / saxophone) on the west coast leg. Each artist will perform solo on their respective instrument, exploring a variety of different compositional approaches.
More info on the record with the videos for "Sunken Ships" and "Jackyl" and all dates, below...

Middle BrotherMiddle Brother (the band) is comprised of the unmistakable three voices of Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes, John McCauley of Deer Tick, and Matthew Vasquez of Delta Spirit, but in "Middle Brother" (the song) you'll also recognize the voice of Jonny Corndawg who also helped them write the tune.

Middle Brother kick off their first-ever tour on March 2nd in Washington DC. That's the tour that will include FULL SETS by Middle Brother AND Deer Tick AND Dawes on almost all March dates including on March 5th at Music Hall of Williamsburg and March 6th at Bowery Ballroom. Jonny Corndawg (pictured above) will be on the tour and performing at all Middle Brother shows, though he'll only be playing full opening sets at the newly-added April California shows (list below). After California, Corndawg heads back to NYC in time to finish off another Brooklyn residency - last time it was at Union Pool, this time it's at Brooklyn Bowl (April 4, 11, 18 & 25).

Middle Brother's March run ends at SXSW in March. There the band play the previously-mentioned Ground Control Touring showcase at Auditorium Shores on March 19th, and they will play a BrooklynVegan day party one day earlier - March 18th & Swan Dive/Barabarella. BrooklynVegan (we) have teamed up with Partisan Records and Knitting Factory for a free, afternoon, 3-stage event. It will be Middle Brother's only day party, and Deer Tick are on the bill too. AgesandAges

Tim Perry, the singer and songwriter behind the local band AgesandAges, has started a cult. You can join, but first you've got to drop out of society.

"The whole album is about willful isolation, a voluntary detachment from the rest of civilization," Perry says. "But it's as much of an effort to bring people into the fold as it is to keep it isolated."

Also of paramount importance is commitment. "If it makes sense to you, then let's do it full force, but don't muck up the path with negative rhetoric or with your physical presence."

Despite the tone of separatism that serves as the album's theme, the delivery of the 12 songs on AgesandAges' debut of brisk indie-folk, "Alright You Restless," is actively sunny, inducing an "Up With People" vibe. Each song is presented like an inspirational manifesto echoed by a seven-member choir attesting to the message." [Oregon Live]

Portland's AgesandAges's new LP was just released on 2/15 via Knitting Factory Records. Check out their new video for "Navy Parade (escape from the Black River bluffs)" below.

The Northwestern band is hitting the road with Olympia, Washington group LAKE for a North American tour in middle April and will descend upon NYC for two dates later that month: April 29 at Knitting Factory with Iowa's Paleo, and April 30th at Mercury Lounge with Sea of Bees. AgesandAges will also be representin' at SXSW (exact dates TBA).
