Austalian band Rat Columns were just on tour and main man David West is sticking around North America a little longer to tour one of his other projects, the mostly electronic Lace Curtain. (Not to be confused with ex-Harlem band Lace Curtains, even though it is actually very confusing. Leave off the last "S" for Australia.) Technically, Lace Curtain is West and Mikey Young (Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Total Control), but the latter isn't much for touring these days so this will be West in one-man-band mode. The tour, which is with Eaters, kicks off at Silent Barn on October 10 with Negative Supply and Hiro Kone on the bill as well. All dates are listed below.
Lace Curtain released their third EP back in February via Mexican Summer and it's probably the poppiest yet, while still keeping that chilly edge. Lead track "I Can't Wait" is hooky and danceable, and "Lovers Fade" is a pretty ballad that could've been on a Soft Cell album. You can stream those two and a few other Lace Curtain tracks below.
Eaters, meanwhile, will also be playing CMJ. All Lace Curtains/Eaters tour dates are listed, plus song streams, below...

As we've mentioned a few times, Total Control are visiting from Australia, playing two shows in NYC this week: tonight (5/22) at Mercury Lounge with Pop. 1280, Night Sins, and Sleepies (tickets); and 285 Kent on Thursday (5/23) with Raspberry Bulbs, Crazy Spirit, and Survival (tickets). If you haven't checked the band's music out yet -- motorik synth workouts, jittery post-punk and punk stormers -- you can stream both their fantastic 2011 album Henge Beat and their singles compilation below. Go to one (or both) of these shows!
Meanwhile, you may remember that Total Control's Mikey Young, David West and James Vinciguerra formed new electronic side project Lace Curtain. They dropped their debut EP back in March via DFA which I described as an EP that "would make a good soundtrack to a dystopian sci-fi film or, in the case of "Good Intentions," someone's nightmare breakup or withdrawal. (In a good way, of course.)" A couple tracks from that EP are streamable below.
Lace Curtain have already announced their second EP, Falling/Running, which will be out June 11 on Mexican Summer. A little more straightforward than the DFA EP, the four new tracks would make for good late night driving music, or maybe just playing the old Atari game Night Driver. You can stream "Falling (II)" below.
Though one might postulate that with the sold-out DFA Records Anniversary Party happening on Saturday (5/25) at Grand Prospect Hall, Lace Curtain might be one of the "special guests" but as Total Control are playing DC that night, no dice. Meanwhile, Total Control have added West Coast shows happening after Chaos in Tejas. All tour dates are listed below.
Aussie post-punk Total Control (members of Lace Curtain, Eddie Current Suppression Ring, Ooga Boogas) have released a new video for "Sweaty," one of their contributions to the previously discussed 2011 split with Thee Ohsees. Stream the whole thing below.
As mentioned, Total Control are on the road this spring and will play two NYC dates, 285 Kent on 5/23 and Mercury Lounge on 5/22 (tickets on sale at noon today). Until then, head below for the new Total Control video, beaucoup streams and their full tour schedule.

As mentioned before Lace Curtain is a new project from extremely prolific Australian Mikey Young (Total Control, Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Ooga Boogas) that also features James Vinciguerra (Total Control) and David West (Total Control, Rat Columns). While both Total Control and Ooga Boogas dabble in electronics, Lace Curtain are full-bore in diode mode.
The band's debut EP, out now on vinyl and next week (3/5) digitally, explores a variety of electronic landscapes and would make a good soundtrack to a dystopian sci-fi film or, in the case of "Good Intentions," someone's nightmare breakup or withdrawl. (In a good way, of course.) We've got the premiere of that track right here and you can stream it below.
Don't forget Mikey and James will be in NYC with the great Total Control in May.

Yesterday news broke that UV Race were heading out on the road as part of a tour toward Chaos in Tejas. Part of those dates were with the great Total Control, though the band were not involved in the UV Race show scheduled in NYC for that week. (TC is some of UV Race plus Mikey Young of Eddy Current Suppression Ring.) Now comes word that an NYC show has indeed emerged for Total Control, and the bill is a whopper! Look for the band to headline 285 Kent on May 23 with Raspberry Bulbs, Crazy Spirit and Survival. $10 gets you in.
If you haven't checked out Total Control's recent 7"s (compiled into a single digital release) and their incredible 2011 LP Henge Beat you can stream some of those below.
Bill wrote in the post about Mikey Young's other other band, Oooga Boogas, "Trying to keep up with Eddy Current Suppression Ring-related bands can be a fulltime job." Now comes word of yet another related project, Lace Curtain, which is "James, David & Mikey from Total Control, Rat Columns, Rank/Xerox, Eddy Current Suppression Ring et al." Lace Curtain (singular) are not to be confused with Lace Curtains (plural) which is Michael Coomer of Harlem's band. Though it is confusing. Anyway, Lace Curtain have an EP coming out on DFA Records next month and can be pre-ordered here and you can stream samples over at Juno.
Updated UV Race/Total Control dates, plus those TC streams, are below.
