Sidewalk Cafe

Winter Antifolk Festival is happening at Sidewalk Cafe (94 Ave A) through February 26th. It kicked off last night (2/15) with an open mike, and gets into the schedule proper Tuesday with sets from Larkin Grimm, Jeffrey Lewis (solo) and others. The full festival schedule (with songwriters like Phoebe Kreutz, Lach, The Pendulum Swings feat. Jason Trachtenburg, Dufus, Franz Nicolay associates The Debutante Hour, The Wowz, Toby Goodshank and many more) is below.

For Dufus (aka Seth Faergolzia), his February 24th festival appearance is his first of five upcoming shows at the East Village venue. He'll be in residency there in March which is the same month he has a residency at Boulder Coffee Co. in Rochester. All of his dates and a video are below too...

Martin Bisi

Martin Bisi and Larkin Grimm played Mercury Lounge on January 24th. Lori got some pictures. They're in this post. They both also shared a bill at the Knitting Facory about three week's prior (at the end of December).

Martin Bisi's next show is tonight (2/1) at Small Beast, a weekly show hosted by Paul Wallfisch, Mondays at The Delancey. Upcoming acts on Small Beast's diverse schedule include kitchen-sink punk Bad Credit No Credit, cabaret singer Little Annie, and punk jazz group Gutbucket. The full schedule for that and more pictures are below...

Blurt: Do you ever feel like your contributions to Husker Du are overlooked?

Grant Hart: This isn't thrown out as a condemnation of Bob, but I think that my fans know my material better than a lot of Bob's fans know his material. The reason I say that is every time I've gone to see a Bob Mould concert, someone has yelled out the name of one of my songs. When I'm out touring, I maybe hear that one out of five concerts.

The last couple of years of Husker Du proved this, but the larger your audience is the more dumb elements it's going to encompass. Bob's fans who never heard Husker Du, but heard Sugar first have more of a "Grant sucks" kind of attitude. I think with the popularity of Copper Blue, Bob ended up with a bunch of cowboys for listeners. If Bob and I were as competitive as our fans are, we would have never gotten past Land Speed Record.
