Don't steal our MP3s dudes
An independent record label, a foreign film company and several pornography studios have declared war on illegal file sharing in New Jersey, suing more than 12,000 people since June for allegedly using peer-to-peer networks to unlawfully distribute copyrighted material over the Internet....In related news, Drake is the most pirated artist in the US.
...McDaniel's clients include a London-based record company, Century Media Ltd., which is suing fans of two popular metal bands for allegedly using the BitTorrent file-sharing protocol to unlawfully distribute their music online.
Two of the suits aim to halt the illicit distribution of "Dark Adrenaline," the most recent album by the Italian band Lacuna Coil. The suits collectively target 3,136 John Doe defendants.
Four similar civil complaints accuse another 4,327 unnamed file swappers of illegally distributing "Dystopia," the 2011 album by Iced Earth, a Florida-based metal band on the Century Media label.
McDaniel is also representing a German film company, Amselfilm Productions GmbH & CO. KG of Berlin, which holds the rights to the 2011 Russian movie "Bablo," or "The Dough." Three suits, filed in late June at the same time as the six Century Media cases, contend 4,654 people shared pirated copies of the film.
"Illegal downloading has reached epidemic proportions, as thousands of works are pirated on a daily basis through bit torrents that rob copyright holders of the value of their creative work," McDaniel wrote in a suit he filed last year in Newark on behalf of another German client, Baseprotect UG Ltd. Megadeth's Gigantour set played like most of their festival appearances of the past year- a greatest hits of their career with a few surprises peppered in. As longtime fans of Megadeth, their catalog of songs are all extremely solid live. But while the band never disappoints, we feel fortunate that Megadeth still exists at all considering all that Mustaine and the boys have been through physically and emotionally over the past decade. At around nine thirty the stage went dark and Shawn Drover's unmistakable drum beats crashed for the opener "Trust," from the 'Cryptic Writings' album. "Trust," albeit not as hard as the rest of their catalog is a perfect opener...Gigantour, which continues at Glens Falls Civic Center tomorrow night (2/1), rolled into NYC on Saturday (1/28) at The Theatre at Madison Square Garden with apperances from Megadeth, the legendary Motorhead, Lacuna Coil and Volbeat. Pictures/setlists from that show (sans shots of Lacuna Coil, though there are some of Cristina on stage with Dave) are in this post. More of them with some videos, the setlists and all dates, below....
At one point Mustaine had Lacuna Coil's Cristina Scabbia come out on stage to sing, "À Tout le Monde (Set Me Free)" with him. It was a fantastic duet of a classic, and the first time I've ever seen Mustaine sing with a female. Besides being one of the best shredders in the business, this dude can harmonize with the best of them. Along with these rare on stage moments, fans got the red meat they wanted with staples such as, "Hanger 18″, "Wake Up Dead," and "Symphony of Destruction," all of which were played to perfection. -[Local Bozo]
