Antemasque / Le Butcherettes
If all you know of Omar is the talented but quiet guy off to the side on all those ATDI reunion shows, that dude has been replaced by a beast wearing a guitar. Something about these news songs has lit a fire under him, and watching him shred was a sight to see. His work on "Dominoes Fall" was incredible, with its big Guitar Hero worthy solo being the standout moment of the show.Following the end of the At the Drive-In reunion and the breakup of The Mars Volta, Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodríguez-López have joined forces for yet another band, Antemasque. That band put out their debut album this year and recently wrapped up a tour with Omar's pals Le Butcherettes in support of it. The tour hit NYC for three shows and also hit other cities including Houston (where the above review is from) and Chicago, where the pictures in this post are from.
Cedric held up his end of the bargain, sounding pretty solid for a guy who spent the better part of his younger years screaming his lungs out. He still knows how to command an audience, still has those funky dance moves and still knows when to stop and let the crowd sing their hearts out. [Houston Press]

At the Drive-In at Coachella 2012 (more by Dana (distortion) Yavin)
Though Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodriguez-Lopez's post-Mars Volta/At the Drive-In band Antemasque put out their debut album (featuring Flea) earlier this year, it's since been taken off the internet and will be "officially" released in October via Omar's Nadie Sound label. Also in October, the band will kick off a tour with Le Butcherettes, whose album featured production and bass playing from Omar and whose singer Teri Gender Bender was in Bosnian Rainbows with Omar. The tour hits NYC on November 8 at Brooklyn Bowl and November 9 at Bowery Ballroom. Tickets for B Bowl and Bowery go on sale Wednesday (8/27) at 10 AM.

Wild Flag's Carrie Brownstein & the Hives @ Coachella Sunday - 4/22/2012
"The second weekend brought record heat. Festival-goers jockeyed for patches of grass around the shaded perimeters. They pounded frozen lemonade at $6 a cup.How was your Coachella?
"It feels like a different world from last weekend," The Shins frontman James Mercer said. "It was Iceland last week."
While the weather forced some practical fashion choices, Coachella's sartorial influence was noted well beyond Indio. Joan Rivers and Kelly Osbourne debated Coachella-inspired fashion trends, and the wider cultural significance of the festival, on the E! Channel program, "The Fashion Police."
Osbourne, a Coachella regular, proclaimed, "When you go to Coachella, all the girls are half-naked and 22." Rivers, who joked that she goes to Coachella, too, quipped, "If David Hasselhoff was there, this means officially Coachella is no longer cool."" [MYDesert.com]
After DJing a party on Friday night and headlining with his band Radiohead on Saturday, Thom Yorke kept busy on Sunday by DJing a Rolling Stone pool party with Nigel Godrich, and then showing up as a not-so-surprise, special guest during Modeselektor's Sunday night set in the Mojave tent while Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg headlined the main Coachella stage.

Blood Red Shoes @ MHOW
After Chris left the BV Loft Party all the way back on Friday, October 22nd, he headed over to Music Hall of Williamsburg for the Blue Flowers-presented CMJ showcase for a lineup of mostly UK bands including Chapel Club, Everything Everything, and Blood Red Shoes (who toured North America with Sky Larkin in October). Pictures from that show are in this post.
The occasion (to post these belated pics)? SXSW has already announced an initial lineup of bands playing in Austin from March 16-20, 2011, and Chapel Club is on that list (and I wouldn't be surprised of the other 2 mentioned bands end up coming too). Also on the list: Lia Ices, Braids, Asobi Seksu, Wye Oak, Suuns, Sun Airway, A Place to Bury Strangers and more. Full list under the rest of the MHOW pictures, below...
