Michael Berdan of Believer/Law, on stage with Veins, June 2011 (more by Tim Griffin)
Dating back nine years, it's no wonder that the weekly WIERD party draws some great bands and especially for a late night on a Wednesday. WIERD's anniversary will be celebrated tonight at their homebase of Home Sweet Home (11/21) with an appearance from Sacred Bones artist Led Er Est. Come out and party.
But if you can't make it to WIERD this week, there are still a bunch of great bands in the coming weeks as well. Next Wednesday (11/28) means an appearance from Texas band Pinkish Black, who just signed to Century Media for a new LP. The band's last NYC appearance was at Saint Vitus on June 15th as part of Northside, on a bill with Deafheaven, Indian Jewelry and Vattnet Viskar.
Sweden's Lust for Youth will begin their trek towards the end of the world (if you believe this kind of stuff) with a show at Wierd on 12/12/2012. The band recently released Growing Seeds via Sacred Bones earlier this month after a smaller release in the EU on Avant! Records. Check out a song stream below.
And last but not least, the WIERD Holidaze Party (12/19) will feature Believer/Law with DJ Ryan DAIS. The band features vocalist Michael Berdan (Drinkdriver/Veins, etc) and steers away from some of his previous hardcore-based focus, instead opting for keyboard-driven gothic-industrial. Check out a new song below, along with a live video. The holiday party will also double as a record release show for the band's upcoming cassette on Robert & Leopold (LP due on Blind Prophet soon).
Check out video from some of the bands with forthcoming WIERD performances below, along with tonight's 9th Anniversary Flyer. Congrats, WIERD!
Xeno & Oaklander at BV-CMJ 2011 (more by Amanda Hatfield)
NYC synth goth vets Ike Yard played a NYC show earlier this year with contempory NYC synth goths Xeno & Oaklander, and now the two will team up again, this time bringing along another group of goth newcomers, Led Er Est. The three groups will play a late show at 285 Kent on September 7, which starts at midnight (so technically Saturday, September 8). No advance tickets for this one at the moment ($9 at the door), and more details on the show are below.
Xeno & Oaklander have a few other upcoming NYC appearances as well. They'll give a lecture at Public Assembly on September 16 called 'Analog as the New Folk,' where they'll discuss the analog synthesizer as the new folk instrument. The lecture is free and all ages. As mentioned, Xeno & Oaklander will also open the first of two Silver Apples shows in NYC. They support the band at their Public Assembly show (10/4) with Man Forever and La Big Vic (tickets), which happens one day before Silver Apples plays 92YTribeca (10/5) with CFCF and Win Win (tickets).
Meanwhile, Led Er Est member Shawn Devin O'Sullivan will play Death by Audio's Modular Synth Winter Solstice on September 22 (though we're pretty sure that's actually the fall solstice). This event follow's DbA's Modular Synth Summer Solstice, which went down this past June. Joining Shawn Devin O'Sullivan on the lineup will be DeTrop (Ryan Martin of Dais Records), Retribution Body, Matthew Regula (of Telecult Powers), and Nathan Cearley (of Long Distance Poison).
In related news, Led Er Est's Sacred Bones labelmates Pop. 1280 will be going on a short tour this September. The tour kicks off on September 1 at Death by Audio with METZ and Herzog Rising, and culminates in their appearance at Hopscotch Music Fest. After that tour, Pop. 1280 will support The Soft Moon at their previously discussed Bowery Ballroom show (10/30). That show is also with Group Rhoda and tickets are still available. The Soft Moon also play Glasslands on September 20 with Cold Showers and ERAAS (tickets).
A list of all dates, plus videos, are below.

Dark synth pop trio Led Er Est are in the midst of an East coast tour that kicked off at Public Assembly during Norhtside. If you missed them, luckily they are back in the city and will play a two shows over the next two weeks including tonight at Home Sweet Home (6/20, part of the WIERD party) with DJ sets from Miz Margo, Max Labor, & Frankie Teardrop. The band will then play NYC again at XPO 929 on June 30th (tickets) with the great Martial Canterel and you can look for a Shawn O'Sullivan (of Led Er Est) solo set on 6/28 at Loreley. A full listing of tour dates are below.
Led Er Est released their new LP The Diver via Sacred Bones on May 15th. Check out two songs and a video from said release below, alongside a listing of all tour dates.
The Bunker are throwing their Northside Showcase at Public Assembly tonight (6/15) with a pretty solid lineup taking up both rooms in the Brooklyn venue. The back room will feature German electronic artist Kassem Mosse, darkwavers Led Er Est (who released their first album for Sacred Bones, The Diver, last month and have had releases on Wierd and Captured Tracks), Mike Servito, and Berlin's Jonathan Schmidt. The front room gets Kranky artists Keith Fullerton Whitman and Raglani, and Spectrum Pools artist Michael Pollard, along with JD Emmanuel, Rene Hell, Mindscraper, Spinoza, and Iso.
Advance tickets are on sale, no-fee, cash-only tickets are available at Other Music in Manhattan and Halcyon in Brooklyn, or you can get them at the door for an extra $5 or try to get in with your Northside badge. The flier for this show is below, along with song streams from some of the artists.
Tonight's show is one of a few North American dates this month for Kassem Mosse, but he'll return in September for Warm Up at PS1 on September 1 with James Holden, Om Unit, and Silent Diane. Tickets for Warm Up go on sale this Monday (6/18). All Kassem Mosse dates are listed below.
