Potty Mouth at BV-SXSW 2014 (more by Tim Griffin)
Northampton indie rockers Potty Mouth have multiple tour dates coming up this spring, including legs with Waxahatchee, Swearin', Perfect Pussy, and their Mass. neighbors Fleabite. The latter will join them at their NYC show which happens at Silent Barn on June 14. All dates are listed below.
Fleabite will be supporting their new EP, Over It, which came out this week (4/15) digitally and on cassette via Puzzle Pieces Records. Their catchy noise pop should be a good fit with Potty Mouth, and you can check it out for yourself by streaming the new EP below.
Meanwhile, Potty Mouth are one of nine bands, including Sadie Dupuis of Speedy Ortiz, Bent Shapes, Levek, Radiator Hospital, Field Mouse and more, contributing movie/TV show fictional band covers to Father/Daughter Records' new Record Store Day compilation, Faux Real. You can stream Potty Mouth's cover of "Take Me Away" from Freaky Friday, Sadie's cover of "Pretend to Be Nice" from Josie and the Pussycats, plus the Bent Shapes and Levek covers, below. Full tracklist below too.
SXSW is no doubt a great way to see a lot of bands in a short amount of time and can be a lot of fun. But it can also be a little much for some. If you'd like to see many of the same bands but in a more genteel setting, you might be interested in The Savannah Stopover which happens the weekend before SXSW (March 7 - 9) in at various clubs in Savannah, Georgia. Over 100 bands will play, including Of Montreal, Merchandise, Mac DeMarco, Chelsea Light Moving, Hunters, Braids, Delicate Steve, Turbo Fruits, Ducktails and loads more.

Slow Magic / Levek / TOPS @ Pianos 10/16/2012
It seems like forever ago (only last week) but the first day of CMJ (Tuesday, 10/16) back before we became covered in handstamps and wristbands, we headed to the Lower East for early day parties, like the one Portals thew at Pianos. There we caught Montreal's dreamy and danceable TOPS, Florida's breezy, jammy Levek, Delaware trio Mean Lady, plus Brooklynites Young Magic, and the similarly named but very different Slow Magic, whose laptop-and-drums style (while masked) was much more aluring than we thought it was going to be (definitely the pleasant surprise of the afternoon).
More pictures from the show are below.

Florida's Levek, who were just in NYC last month, have just announced a short, mostly East Coast tour, including (and probably because of) time in NYC for CMJ. The only announced CMJ show for them so far is the Penache showcase at Public Assembly on October 19 but look for more to emerge as we get closer to the fest.
Levek's debut album, Look a Little Closer, is out September 25 and that's the cover art above. You can download the album's opening cut, "Black Mold Grow," above as well. All scheduled tour dates are below.

Gainsville, FL's David Levesque will release his debut album under his Levek alias, Look A Little Closer, on September 25 via Lefse Records. You may remember 2010 single "Look on the Bright Side," which dove deep into widescreen psychedelic funk. Look A Little Closer finds him dipping even more explicitly into '60s tropicalia be it Sergio Mendez-style trippy excursions to more trad bossa nova, as well as delicate folk. It makes for a refreshing listen on these hot humid summer nights we're currently experiencing. You can download the album's first single, "Black Mold Grow," at the top of this post.
Levek just launched a little East Coast tour that will hit NYC this weekend with two shows: Friday (7/20) at Pianos with Tropic of Pisces and Bad Girlfriend (tickets), and Glasslands on Saturday (7/18) as part of good line-up that includes Dent May and The Babies (tickets). All Levek tour dates are below.
The Glasslands show is the first of four upcoming Brooklyn shows for The Babies who just wrapped up a tour of the West Coast. They're also playing July 25 at Public Assembly with Wild Yaks, Beach Day, Daytona and DJ's Total Slacker (tickets), July 28 at Union Pool opening for The Soft Pack, and August 15 at Union Pool with Deep Time. The Babies new album, Our House on the Hill, is due out on Woodsist this fall but the first single from it, "Moonlight Mile" (not a Rolling Stones cover), is out next month.

By day, Florida native David Levesque drives a school bus. In the off-hours, he records catchy tunes as Levek. You can check out two songs at the top of this post. Now a six-piece band, Levek is on a short tour that hits town this weekend, Saturday (3/5) at Cameo with Dinosaur Feathers, Motel Motel and ohnomoon, and then Sunday at Pianos with Unknown Mortal Orchestra who are touring with the Smith Westerns.
Levek will then play a few shows in his home state with neighbors Holiday Shores and Idiot Glee. What, no SXSW?
Meanwhile, Motel Motel are also playing Cake Shop tonight (3/4) with Shark? and Dinosaur Feathers. The band claim this weekend's shows are likely to be their last hometown gigs ever as they're going on "permanent hiatus." Before calling it quits Motel Motel are going on One Last Tour (with Dinosaur Feathers) that includes stops at SXSW.
All Levek and Motel Motel/Dinosaur Feathers tour dates are below.
