Beady Eye

"It's easy to look at a band like Beady Eye and make easy pronouncements about the bombast of their music based on the circus that is the Gallagher brothers. When Noel threw in the towel and walked away from Oasis in 2009, it seemed almost inevitable after years of well publicized public quarrels and multiple band "breakups."

But if you expected animosity and bitter feelings from Thursday night's Beady Show at the 9:30 Club, you would have been sorely disappointed. What was on display was a milieu that was equal parts professionalism, bombast and the pure rock 'n' roll swagger that one would expect from a front man who was named the Greatest of All Time by Q magazine in 2010." Beady Eye at Webster Hall in June (more by Jessica Amaya)

Beady Eye (Oasis minus Noel Gallagher), who made their public NYC debut at Webster Hall last month, are returning to North America this fall for a short tour. The tour ends in NYC on December 9 at Terminal 5. Tickets go on sale Friday (7/15) at noon. "The band will be joined by Matt Jones on keyboards and Jeff Wootton on bass for all dates."

Beady Eye recently made a video for their track "The Beat Goes On." The video, which you can watch below, was filmed at the band's Isle of Wight performance and directed by Charlie Lightening. The band are releasing the song as a single on their own label with the previously unreleased track "In The Bubble With A Bullet" as the b-side. The single comes out July 18.

Meanwhile, Noel Gallagher has been working on some stuff of his own. He's set to release the solo album Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds in the UK on October 17 on his own Sour Mash label, and in the US on November 8 on Sour Mash and Mercury. According to Noel's website, he and his band Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds will tour this fall. No dates have been announced yet. He's also said that he's completed a second album "which is a continuation of his collaboration with Amorphous Androgynous." That album is set to come out in 2012.

In other news, Liam says that Noel lied about how Oasis split up in 2009.

"I got diagnosed with laryngitis for the V festival - I wasn't hung-over," Liam said.

"I do gigs when I've been hung-over. I'm a big boy. I'm not going to cancel a gig because I've got a headache."

Liam Gallagher is ruling Glasgow before he has even come on: 2,000 voices roar his name, mixing this with a booze-sozzled chant that carries on throughout the gig: "Beady! Beady! Beady fuckin' aye!"

Oasis may be no more, but if this lot are missing Noel Gallagher, it doesn't show. Still, it's hard to pinpoint exactly what Liam does that has made him the sort of idol who comes along once a generation. He wears a motorcycle jacket buttoned up (helpful for dodging the traditional Glasgow welcome of hurled beer). He edges a hand towards his private regions (not quite a Michael Jackson crotch grab, more like scratching an itch). He stands motionless and casts, yes, a beady eye over the crowd. Yet somehow his presence in this medium-size hall (as opposed to an Oasis-size arena) is formidable. [The Guardian]

That's a review of Beady Eye's show in Glagow this past Friday night. The band, basically Oasis minus Noel Gallagher, released their debut album, Different Gear, Still Speeding, last week. It pretty much sounds like what you think it going to, though guitarists Gem Archer and Andy Bell (who was in Ride) show that Noel wasn't the only one capable of writing melodies that sound a lot like The Beatles and The Las. When it sticks to rockers, it's actually pretty good.

Beady Eye have just announced their first ever American dates, including a June 23 stop at Webster Hall. Tickets ($40) for that show go on sale this Friday (3/11) at noon.
