Carly Simon

"Lilith organizers are saddened to announce Carly Simon had to withdraw from three Lilith Fair dates (Boston, July 30; New York City, July 31; and Hartford, Aug 1) for medical reasons. Last week, Simon suffered an injury by seriously fracturing and breaking her foot, which will prevent her from performing at these shows. Everyone on the Lilith tour wishes Simon a speedy recovery. Meanwhile, look for information on updated line-ups for these three dates to be announced in the coming days."
That sucks, but note to Lilith Fair: PNC Bank Arts Center is not in NYC!

In freaky related news (or Carly Simon just realized the excuse worked), The Go-Gos cancelled their Lilith Fair dates for almost the same exact reason (and their non-Lilith dates like July 20th at Irving Plaza).

Earlier this month it was announced that Lilith had to cancel 10 dates of the tour, and other artists like Norah Jones and Kelly Clarkson previously pulled out of their shows on the tour.

The Go-Gos

June 9, 2010 (LOS ANGELES, CA) - It is with great regret that the Go-Go's announce today the cancelation of Happily Ever After, their summer farewell tour. The tour was scheduled to kick off July 7 at Lilith Fair San Diego, and conclude in Austin, TX on July 27. The band will also be unable to perform live on Good Morning America, scheduled for July 16 in New York's Central Park.

The news comes as a result of guitarist Jane Wiedlin injuring herself after a 20-foot fall while hiking near her home in Northern California a couple of weeks ago. Jane is scheduled for ACL replacement surgery for her knee in the coming weeks, with a prognosis of up to a year recovery time.

The band is heartbroken and hopes their fans will send best wishes for Jane's speedy recovery. In the meantime, tickets can be refunded at point of purchase. [Jane Wiedlin]

The canceled tour included a July 20th show at Irving Plaza. Get well soon Jane. All canceled dates are below...

Lilipad

Bob Lefsetz writes...

Seeing the decline in recorded music revenues, ticket prices soared. We can blame Live Nation, but let's first and foremost blame the acts. Who not only priced tickets exorbitantly, but scalped their own tickets. They were greedy.

What's the end result?

The club business has been devastated. Live music is about the special event, one doesn't go regularly. It's about paying top buck for a name brand. Take a chance? At these prices!

And now we've got Sarah McLachlan admitting that Lilith Fair tickets are "pretty soft" (the story is everywhere, but it originated on "Billboard": Sarah McLachlan says Lilith sales "pretty soft")

What Sarah says seems reasonable, that only 300 seats or so out of 16,000 are $250, and that there are 9,000 that are $25, until you click through and try to buy some.

At the local L.A. date at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre/Irvine Meadows, the first Ticketmaster choice is:

'Lilith Universe' - Diamond Package

The price? $750 a ticket.

Then we've got:

'Lilith Spirit' - Gold Spirit

The price is: $450 a ticket.

Then there's 'Lilith Spirit' - Silver Package. Prices there are $300 a ticket.

And then, fourth choice down, we come to "NEW FULL PRICE TICKET". Where the options are: $252, $101, $71.50, $41.50 and $31.50.

But it gets even worse. After that, there's a line for "Citi Cardmember Preferred Tickets". And then, at the very bottom, we've got "Lawn 4 Pack Offer". Those are only $14.25 apiece, but after service charges, aren't you just better off buying the ultimate DVD, which you can watch again and again in the privacy of your own home. up close and personal?

In other words, first and foremost, we've got a perception problem. No matter how many super-expensive seats there are, perception is you just can't get a good one unless you pay up, demoralizing potential attendees.

Furthermore, no one on the bill is "hot". There's no GaGa that makes people NEED to go. [Bob Lefsetz]

Lilith Fair 2010, back from a 10+ year hiatus, kicks off June 27th and runs into August. The maxi pad-sponsored tour comes to the NYC area for a July 31st show at PNC Bank Arts Center. Acts at that date include Cat Power, Chairlift, Carly Simon, Sarah McLachlan, Selena Gomez, Missy Higgins, Jill Hennessy, Indigo Girls, Sara Bareilles, Priscilla Renea and a "special guest" (other acts not playing NJ include Loretta Lynn, Metric, Gossip, Beth Orton, La Roux Erykah Badu and Tegan and Sara). Tickets are currently on sale with "no service fee."

The tour recently canceled its July 8th stop in Arizona for undisclosed reasons, but there's speculation that it's in protest of the state's controversial new immigration law.

"The GoGo's are encouraging Lilith to move this date to another state in protest of the new immigration law. We are NOT supporting the state government," [GoGo's Belinda Carlisle] wrote on her Facebook account a few weeks ago. "I don't mix business and politics but I'm afraid I have to this time."

Carlisle eventually deleted the post, but The Go-Go's released a press statement last week informing fans the show was cancelled and tickets could be refunded. But they also said the band had not been told why the show was cancelled. [ChartAttack]

Erykah Badu @ Good Units in March (more by Ryan Muir)
Erykah Badu

In case you're wondering why Erykah Badu didn't play Roseland Tuesday night, it's because that show and others on her upcoming tour were rescheduled. The new date for Roseland is June 7th, where she'll play with Janelle Monae and ?uestlove. Tickets were still on sale yesterday, but currently not on sale at all.... which might be because Ticketmaster is confused about the date change (yesterday it said "day of show price"). Janelle Monae travels with Erykah for a good part of that tour, all the dates of which are posted below.

On June 26th, Erykah will be back in NYC to open for Maxwell at MSG (one of two shows he plays at the venue). Tickets are still on sale for that.

Her tour is in support of her new record New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh). All dates (which also include some Lilith Fair dates) are below...

Tegan and Sara

In what I think may be one of the oddest pairings I've seen in a while, Tegan & Sara are going out on a "Honda Civic Tour" with pop punk superstars Paramore (and other openers). Tickets for the New York show, August 6th at Jones Beach, go on "Citi Cardmembers" and "Live Nation" (password = keyboard) presale at 10am, and then general sale starts Saturday at 10am...

"We know a lot of you are big fans of Paramore already, but if you are not, please go check them out. I've had the pleasure of listening to their music for years and seeing them open for NO DOUBT! last summer. Not only are they wonderful songwriters and incredible performers they are also the nicest people you'll ever meet. We're proud and beyond excited to share the summer, the stage and 2 months of our lives with them. We hope to see you there!!!" [Tegan & Sara]
Hmmm. The twins play all Paramore dates except two which happen to coincide with day that Tegan & Sara make their sole Lilith Fair appearance this summer. The July 30th Boston (Mansfield) show at Comcast Center also has Kelly Clarkson, Carly Simon, Cat Power, and Sarah McLachlan on the bill. Tickets for that are currently on about 15 different presales and go on general sale Saturday at 10am.

Paramore don't play any Lilith shows, though they would probably be welcome if they wanted to. Metric are. All dates and a video for Passion Pit's remix of "Alligator" below...

The Go-Gos

After 30 years together and a slew of chart-topping songs that defined an era, the Go-Go's announce Happily Ever After - The Farewell Tour. Happily Ever After kicks off July 7, 2010 at Lilith Fair in San Diego, wraps up July 27 in Austin, and will include a live television performance on Good Morning America, July 16 in New York City.
The Good Morning America appearance is one day after they play Morristown, NJ and one day before they play Atlantic City. A few days later, July 20th, they hit Irving Plaza in NYC. Tickets for that show go on Live Nation Presale (password = keyboard) at 10am. General sale begins Friday at the same time.

The shows will feature the original lineup of Belinda Carlisle, Jane Wiedlin, Charlotte Caffey, Gina Schock and Kathy Valentine. All dates and some videos below...

Metric @ Stubb's in Austin during SXSW (more by Tim Griffin)
Metric

Metric will follow up their performance at SXSW (where Emily Haines also sang with Broken Social Scene) with a series of Canadian shows this April. They return to Texas in May, and then head to New York and a few other cities for select shows including Terminal 5 on Sunday, May 16th. Fanclub presale for those dates is going on now. Tickets for the NYC show go on AmEx presale Wednesday (3/31) at 11am. General sale starts Friday, April 2nd at noon.

They're also on part of the Lilith Fair this summer, and part of those dates have been announced too (Metric are only playing two of them so far). Those, all Metric tour dates and videos of the band at SXSW are below...

Lilith Fair

Lilith Fair, which has been dormant since 1999, will reform this year for a North American tour this summer. Exact dates and venues are forthcoming, but the ongoing list of confirmed acts is impressive (though they won't all play every city). The lineup currently includes Beth Orton, Cat Power, Emmylou Harris, Erykah Badu, the Gossip, Grace Potter and The Nocturnals, Heart, Indigo Girls, Janelle Monae, Ke$ha, La Roux, Lights, Loretta Lynn, Mary J. Blige, Metric, Miranda Lambert, Norah Jones, Rosie Thomas, Sarah McLachlan, Serena Ryder, Sheryl Crow, Tara MacLean, Tegan and Sara.

New York City is one of the tour's confirmed stops. The rest of those and the fest's so-far lineup are below...

Indigo Girl

I was never an Indigo Girls fan, and for whatever reason, the inner immature child in me still thinks it's funny just to say their name ("Indigo Girls. ha ha ha! worst! ever!...").... They're probably amazing. My experience is limited to, like, "Galileo"....

I already mentioned that I thought it was funny interesting that PJ Harvey (who is playing Irving Plaza tonight (3/26)!) was opening for the Indigo Girls at Stubb's during SXSW. Even more interesting, was that the special guest at the Perez Hilton SXSW party was not, as rumored, Britney Spears, but was in fact the Indigo Girls (on the same bill as Ladyhawke, Ida Maria, Little Boots, etc...).

I have since also found out that the Indigo Girls have at least three NYC shows coming up. The first is tonight, March 26th, at the very tiny Living Room on the Lower East Side (file under big artist playing very small venue), and after that it's Highline Ballroom on April 15th (file under Tax Day concerts), and finally a much larger headlining performance this summer (June 16) at Central Park Summerstage (file under who is playing Central Park Summerstage this year).
