Little Brother

It's the end of the road for Little Brother, who have released their final album, Left Back. 9th Wonder is long gone from the scene (Khrysis handles the bulk of the duties), but Phonte and Big Pooh will hit the road for a string of dates in celebration of the release, starting with Hiro Ballroom tonight (May 11th). The bill is rounded out by Black Milk, Torae, Joe Scudda, Chaundon, Jozeemo, and DJ Mick Boogie. Tickets are on sale.

It's one of two NYC shows for Phonte, who will be back in the NYC area with his Foreign Exchange project (with DJ Nicolay) at BB King's on June 6th. Tickets are on sale.

"10 years! My god, that is a LIFETIME! I can't believe I have been making records on a national level for 10 years. In 1999, I was just making these little beats in my bedroom for release on an independent label. Fast forward to 2009, and I'm . . . making these little beats in my bedroom for release on an independent label. Okay, to be fair, some things have changed -- a bigger studio, I OWN the studio, I OWN the independent label, and instead of driving 10 blocks to a gig in my hometown, I fly 10 hours to a gig in another country. But when it all comes down to its most basic level, the goal is still the same -- to make a piece of music that is going to hopefully rearrange your brain, or at least provide some relief from real life for a moment or two." -RJD2

The first single, "Games You Can Win" (featuring Kenna), off RJD2's forthcoming record The Colossus (due January 19th), is available for free above. RJ will be touring - with a full band - behind the album in January, February and even into March when he hits Brooklyn venue Music Hall of Williamsburg (March 6th) and Manhattan club Highline Ballroom (March 7th). Both shows are with Break Science and Happy Chichester. Tickets for both NYC shows go on sale this week (Music Hall on sale Thursday, Highline on Friday). Little Brother @ All Points West 2008

Talib Kweli will hit the road with David Banner as well as Little Brother and B.O.B. (who are splitting the dates) as part of the Hip Hop Live! Tour which will see each group flanked by the "heralded 10-Piece live band Rhythm Roots All Stars for unique versions" of their songs. The nineteen date tour closes at Nokia Theater in NYC on 10/25 with both openers. Tickets are on sale for the show which is also part of CMJ.

Little Brother's two remaning members (Phonte & Big Pooh) are both prepping solo records. Phonte, is working on the sequel to his highly successful collabo with Nicolay, Foreign Exchange. Big Pooh will drop Rapper's Delight for free download "sometime next week". Check the album art below.

Blacksmith (Kweli's label) signees Strong Arm Steady dropped their new video "Can't Let It Go" from their upcoming album Arms & Hammers. Strong Arm Steady is Krondon, Phil Da Agony (member of Likwit Crew with King Tee and the artists formerly known as The Alkaholiks), and Mitchy Slick, but also used to contain Xzibit (also Likwit).

All Points West organizer Paul Tollett: We would like to. Most of your work is in the first year; the heavy lifting. So if you can get it going that's exciting. But the future is unwritten.

Bao sent the above pic of Little Brother performing on the Bullet Stage, right before The Go! Team went on the Blue Comet stage (around 2:20) - not long after he got off the ferry.
