Lock Up @ Europa - 2/16/2012

UK band Lock Up, featuring an ailing Tomas Lindberg and bass tones from Danny Lilker (Nuclear Assault) in the the place of Shane Embury (Napalm Death, Venomous Concept), played Europa on February 16th as part of their round of dates with Goatwhore and Strong Intention. The NYC date featured appearances from both The Year is One and Mutant Supremacy, as well as vocals on some of the Lock Up tracks from Ben of Goatwhore while Lindberg was coating his throat in cloraseptic and downing Dayquil. Get well soon Tompa! Pictures from the show are in this post.
In related news, Goatwhore's new LP Blood for the Master is out NOW via Metal Blade Records. Stream "Parasitic Scriptures of the Sacred Word" from the LP at Pitchfork and order your copy at Metal Blade.

Napalm Death at Gramercy (more by Justina Villanueva)

Mark "Barney" Greenway and his co-conspirators in Napalm Death are back with Utilitarian, their new Century Media-released LP due on Feb 27th in the EU and Feb 28th in the US. We recently dropped a new track from the grindcore pioneers and now have cornered their long-time frontman for a short interrogation on the new record, their plans for the immediate and longer-term future, and what it means to be punk in the 21st century. The results of said discussion are below.

Extreme metal legends Napalm Death are 15 LPs (including their Leaders not Followers covers record) and 30 years deep with Utilitarian, the band's latest offering with Century Media (with whom they recently re-signed).
The grindcore pioneers' latest features 50 minutes of their trademarked blast-y grind venom, but with odd twists and turns and even some saxophone. Its another in a series of great efforts from the great Napalm Death, and BrooklynVegan is proud to present the premiere of one track, "Leper Colony". Stream it below and check out the album art down there too. Look for the LP on Feb 27th in the EU and Feb 28th in the US.
In the meantime, Napalm Death will release another track, "Analysis Paralysis", via 7" with an exclusive B-Side. Pick up a copy of that via Century Media distro. Napalm Death recently released another non-LP track "Legacy was Yesterday" for Decibel's Flexi Series (stream it here).
Reminder: Shane Embury will be on tour with Lock Up this February, hitting Europa on February 16th. Tickets are still available. Napalm Death and another Shane project, Brujeria, will play Maryland Deathfest 2012.

Lock Up is a deathgrind side project originally formed by Shane Embury (Napalm Death, Venomous Concept), Nicholas Barker (ex-Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir) and Jesse Pintado (Napalm Death, Terrorizer). Lock Up was joined by Peter TÃĪgtgren (Hypocrisy) for its debut album, 1999's Pleasures Pave Sewers, and Tomas Lindberg for 2002's Hate Breeds Suffering and a Japanese tour...Lock Up, who is now Shane Embury, Nicholas Barker, Tomas Lindberg (At The Gates, Disfear, etc), and Anton Reisenegger (Chile's Pentagram, Criminal), cancelled their MDF appearance last year but will hit the road for a string of US dates this winter with Goatwhore (who just played Europa with Exhumed) and Strong Intention, including Europa on 2/16. Ticketing info and additional support are still forthcoming.Lock Up have played very few live shows. In 2009, the band announced that they would play the Damnation Festival that year. The line-up featured Embury, Barker, Lindberg and Reisenegger. It was touted as the band's last ever live show; however, they later booked more shows for 2010. -[Wiki]
