Colin Stetson

Sax wizard Colin Stetson is working on his new solo album which will be out at some point in 2013, but before that you'll get a chance to see him at an intimate NYC show with many guests at Zebulon on December 6. The show includes Colin doing a solo set, along with sets by Holly Miranda and her band, Sarah Neufeld on solo violin (Arcade Fire, Bell Orchestre), and Lone Wolf (aka Ryan Saywer). Then Colin, Sarah and Ryan will do a collaborative set with Stuart Bogie, Adam Roberts, and Ryan Ferreira. No advance tickets for this show.
Colin Stetson is also part of the lineup for the 2013 Winter Jazz Fest which goes down across multiple venues in NYC on January 11 and 12. Colin will be playing The Bitter End on 1/12. Other artists on this year's tentative lineup include Nels Cline, Rafiq Bhatia, Debo Band, Vijay Iyer, and many many more. The full tentative lineup (with still more TBA) is below.
Thurston & John on stage w/ Sharon Van Etten in Nov. (more by Chris La Putt)

Thurston Moore and his Chelsea Light Moving bandmate John Moloney, who released the collaborative Caught On Tape earlier this year, are teaming up for a NYC show at Union Pool on December 11 with Speedy Ortiz and Lone Wolf (aka Ryan Sawyer, who also appears at Union Pool a few days earlier with Yeah Yeah Yeahs for a Sandy benefit). Admission is $10 at the door.
For Northampton's Speedy Ortiz, the show is part of a short December tour which also includes another Brooklyn show happening on December 13 at Shea Stadium with Grooms, Lushes, and Eartheater. After that tour, they plan to head out with Roomrunner in January but the dates for that tour have not been announced yet. Roomrunner meanwhile open for Future of the Left at Knitting Factory tonight (11/27).
As mentioned, Thurston Moore's ex-Sonic Youth bandmate/wife Kim Gordon will appear at the Dinosaur Jr. You're Living All Over Me show at Terminal 5 (12/1), along with Al Cisneros (Om, Sleep) and Johnny Marr. Kurt Vile opens the show and tickets are still available.
A list of all Speedy Ortiz dates and an excerpt of Thurston & John's Caught On Tape release, below...

Though tickets for the previously discussed Turing Machine/Violent Bullshit show at Union Pool on 5/18 have flown out the door (it is now sold out), at least you didn't entirely miss the train. Williamsburg, Brooklyn venue Union Pool have announced both bands, along with names like Eric Copeland (Black Dice), Rain Machine (Kyp Malone of TV on The Radio), Bubbles, TEEN, Ryan Sawyer / Nate Wooley / C. Spencer Yeh, LONE WOLF and Test House, as the first batch of artists in their Summer Thunder Series, their annual set of FREE shows taking place on the patio on every other Saturday afternoon from May 26th until August 18th. Summer Thunder 2012 is being curated by the venue along with Ryan Sawyer (Lone Wolf/Tall Firs/Glass Rock) and Summer Thunder creator and artist J. Penry, with each week promising free music, "drink specials, free koozies, T-shirts for purchase by J. Penry, and lots of Jameson". That last part just sold me.
