Madlib, Blu, M.E.D.
blu

Los Angeles rapper Blu will be setting out on the Bad Neighbor Tour with frequent collaborator M.E.D. later this summer. Most dates are still pending announcement, but a few have been revealed including a number of California engagements and New York's S.O.B.'s on August 19. Tickets for that show are available now, as are tables. All currently known dates are listed below.

Blu recently released the Bombay-produced LP Good to Be Home, which features guest spots from Prodigy, Oh No, Alchemist, and Evidence, among many others. The double disc produced the single "The West" which you can hear below. Blu and M.E.D. also have released a new video for "Peroxide" from last year's The Buzz EP, which features Madlib beats and Dam-Funk's g-ness. Consider it a warm-up for the Bad Neighbor LP, which will reprise the Blu/M.E.D./Madlib connection later this year.

List of known dates, with "The West" and the video for "Peroxide," below...

Blu

Cali rapper Blu was supposed to release NoYork! through Warner back in 2011 but he was dropped from the label and "unofficial" releases began circling the web instead. Now he's finally set to give the album a proper birth on March 26 of this year. NoYork! is helmed by an all-star cast of producers -- Flying Lotus, Madlib, Daedelus, Samiyam, Exile, Knxwledge, Shafiq Husayn, and Dibia$e -- and features a ton of great guest spots as well -- Edan, U-God (Wu-Tang), Pac Div, J*Davey, Tiron & Ayomari, and more. You can pre-order the album at Nature Sounds (which comes with an immediate free download) and stream some of its tracks below.

Blu and Madlib also teamed up with MED for another collaborative release, The Burgundy EP, which came out today (2/19) and can be purchased at the Stones Throw Webstore. Each track is produced by Madlib, except "This Is Your Life," which was done by Madlib collaborator Georgia Anne Muldrow. You can stream the opening track "Burgundy Whip" below.

Blu will also be going on a short tour this April with Tiron & Ayomari (who appear on NoYork!), as Potholes In My Blog reports. The tour kicks off in NYC on April 10 at Public Assembly. No advance tickets for this show yet, but you can check ticketweb for updates.

House Shoes

Two hip hop producers, House Shoes and Dabrye, are teaming up for some shows together this month. They've got two shows in California this week, and then they'll come to NYC for a Bandshell-presented show on February 28 at Le Poisson Rouge with Lamin Fofana. Tickets for the LPR show are on sale now. At the moment, those are the only three shows announced for the two producers, and you can see them all in list format below.

House Shoes has been a mainstay as a producer in the Detroit hip hop scene for years, but it wasn't until 2012 that he released his "official" debut album, Let It Go, which features guest spots from Danny Brown, Roc Marciano, The Alchemist, Oh No, Guilty Simpson, Black Milk, Chali 2na and more. Like collaborator The Alchemist's 2012 album, Russian Roulette, Let It Go is a great showcase of the current indie rap scene, but it also works as its own cohesive album of retro-futuristic boom bap. You can stream the entire album and watch the video for the song with Danny Brown, "Sweet," below.

Dabrye hasn't released anything too recently, but like House Shoes, his albums feature a variety of great indie rappers (his 2006 release, Two/Three featured DOOM, Vast Aire, Beans, Guilty Simpson, and others), and his material has been taken on by some pretty great remixers like Kode9 and Flying Lotus. A stream of the instrumental version of his Two/Three LP is below.

All streams and a list of all dates below...

Aloe Blacc
aloeblacc

"A change wasn't going to come. By 2005, Aloe Blacc's decade in hip-hop had begun to yield diminishing returns. Though the Orange County-raised rapper had earned underground respect, the genre increasingly favored flamboyant eccentrics like Kanye West and Lil Wayne. Avenues for expansion were scarce -- especially for a USC graduate whose press biography touts a love of transcendentalism and French existentialism.

"I grew up break dancing and rapping, but hip-hop no longer spoke to me the way it had when I was younger. After years of rhyming thousands of words, I realized that I hadn't really said much," said the 31-year old, who had previously recorded as one half of the duo Emanon."

With megalithic personalities like 50 Cent, Eminem and West monopolizing the radio and the underground boom fizzling, there were few outlets for the sort of socially aware narratives that Blacc yearned to tell. At a crossroads, Blacc delved into the discographies of Joni Mitchell, Nina Simone, Donny Hathaway and John Lennon. Gradually, his perspective diverged from writing raps to composing melodies.

Aloe Blacc is currently on the road with Maya Jupiter, and will hit Le Poisson Rouge in NYC tomorrow (11/18, tickets) in support of Good Things, his new LP out now on Stones Throw. Download "You Make Me Smile" from that LP above.

The Grand Scheme, The Stepkids, and $mall ¢hange will support the crooner at LPR, but you won't find labelmate MED even though the two recently collaborated on "Where I'm From". That song was recently given the video treatment and is available below. Pick up the 12", which features Talib Kweli on the flip for the song "Classic".

All tour dates and some video is below.
