Preservation Hall Jazz Band & Desaparecidos @ Voodoo Fest Day 1 - 11/1/13
"The Friday Voodoo line-ups are usually pretty slow, so I came into City Park expecting to have a lot of downtime (which ended up being a good thing because for some reason Voodoo never deems it necessary to label anything, so every stage is always unmarked).... I had some time to kill before the night truly began, so I marveled at all of the extraordinary costumes festival goers brought to the park (Walter White was an obvious favorite).Other sets on Voodoo day 1 included Anamanaguchi, Those Darlins and New Orleans's own Preservation Hall Jazz Band, all three of which also had over to our Soundwave stage hosted by the funny Dave Hill and Billy Jones (Soundwave schedule HERE).
The night began with Desaparecidos. I'm a huge fan of post-hardcore--I love Fugazi, Minor Threat, Rites of Spring, you name it, I probably at least like it. I've also been to (probably more than) my fair share of post-hardcore shows (getting stuck in an Against Me! mosh pit is arguably the punkest thing I've ever done), so when I say that Desaparecidos's Voodoo performance was the best post-hardcore show I've ever seen, it definitely means something. Conor Oberst definitely brought his best cynical self to the show, spouting political statements and really getting into the music with major head banging." [The Daily Reveille]
The day's big headliner was Pearl Jam, who recently played two big shows at Barclays Center, and whose...
headlining set [at Voodoo] started emotionally when guitarist Mike McCready introduced Steve Gleason, the Washington state native who settled in New Orleans after his days with the New Orleans Saints ended. Stricken with Lou Gehrig's disease, the wheelchair-bound Gleason rolled to declare, in his computer-generated voice, "This is my hometown; this is my hometown band." Gleason's presence lingered throughout the show as McCready wore a Team Gleason T-shirt and Eddie Vedder, a wristband. Vedder later dedicated the show and 2006's "Inside Job" to Gleason and his family, and announced that the band let Gleason write the set list -- which led to the inclusion of a quiet "Chloe Dancer" alongside a number of songs from the new Lightning Bolt. [SPIN]Pearl Jam's full setlist and pictures from the whole day, costumed attendees included, are in this post. Pictures from Day 2 are HERE. More Day 1 below....
Cloud Nothings at BV-SXSW 2013 (more by Sarah Frankie Linder)
As discussed, the Jay Z-curated Budweiser Made In America Festival is returning this weekend to Philly's Benjamin Franklin Parkway (8/31-9/1), and the mostly pop/rap/R&B festival just got a little more, um... punk. Aside from the fact that it already included The Gaslight Anthem (who are pretty much a festival regular by now anyway), the lineup now includes Cloud Nothings, Restorations, Balance & Composure, The Front Bottoms, Diarrhea Planet, PUJOL, and more. And you thought it was weird when Jay Z saw Grizzly Bear.
UPDATE: And one more: Wavves was added to the TBA slot on Sunday.
Other non-punk additions that have happened since we last spoke include Rudimental and The Underachievers. The full schedule was also recently announced, and you can check that out below.
Many of the artists playing Made In America also have NYC or NJ shows this weekend (or soon after), including The Front Bottoms, Diarrhea Planet, Rudimental, The Underachievers, Kendrick, Ab Soul & Jay Rock, AlunaGeorge, Haim, and 2 Chainz.

Says the PR
On the heels of a highly successful, critically acclaimed sold-out 2012 festival, the Sasquatch! Music Festival unveils its 2013 lineup, which once again features 4 days of music. The festival, hailed as "a model of well-paced programming...in a four-day schedule as efficient and natural feeling as an expertly built algorithm" by NPR Music while Wired notes, "leave the landscape out of it and Sasquatch! has a lineup to kill for," runs May 24-27 (Memorial Day Weekend) at TheWoot. 2013 Lineup below...

Andrew WK at Webster Hall in 2012 (more by Dana (distortion) Yavin)
Back before Bamboozle started hitting Asbury Park (or other nearby places in NJ) every spring, the similar Skate and Surf Festival used to go down there, but hasn't been in active in eight years. Following the announcement that there will be no Bamboozle in 2013 (but they say, "keep your eyes peeled for 2014 info"), it was announced that Skate and Surf Fest is being revived this year, and will happen from May 18 to 19 at Plaza Green at iPlay America (110 Schanck Road) in Freehold, NJ.
Though we'd never turn down a solo set by Andrew WK, the rest of the lineup is not one we particularly care about, much like most of Bamboozle's lineup in years past. Other bands playing include Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Saves the Day, Bayside, Into It. Over It., Hopsin, and more. Tickets go on sale Saturday (1/12).

Lollapalooza (more by Grant MacAllister)
Chicago Sun Times reports:
Lollapalooza has revealed its official 2012 list of performers -- a typically wide-ranging smorgasbord of genres and styles topped by nearly a dozen mainstage headliners: the Red Hot Chili Peppers, freshly reunited bands Black Sabbath and At the Drive-In, the Black Keys, Jack White, Florence + The Machine, the Shins and Passion Pit, plus spotlighted electronic music including Swedish house titan Avicii, French dance duo Justice and DJ-producer Bassnectar.Check out the full list below...
The annual music festival is scheduled for Aug. 3-5 in Chicago's Grant Park.
Rumored lineups have circulated widely, as they usually do, and Lollapalooza itself stoked the speculation in recent weeks via a series of CTA and online advertisements that seemed to hint at who would be playing.
The ads featured lyrics from such acts as Sigur Ros, Santigold, Jack White, Kimbra, Twin Shadow, the Weeknd, Bloc Party and more -- all bands that wound up on the bill.
Here is the initial lineup for Willamette Week's MusicfestNW, scheduled for Sept. 7-11, 2011 in Portland, Oregon, and it's pretty great. The multi-venue fest includes big outdoor performances by Band of Horses (Sunday, Sept. 11), Explosions in the Sky (Saturday, Sept. 10), and Iron & Wine (Friday, Sept. 9), in addition to shows with everyone from Archers of Loaf to Big Freedia to Butthole Surfers to Neurosis. Tickets go on sale Friday, June 3rd. Check out the full list below...
