Union Hall

The ongoing controversy over Union Hall bar in Park Slope is tearing apart the local community board as it heads towards Wednesday's vote on the popular nightspot's liquor license amid charges that one of the bar's opponents has a conflict of interest and another opponent made a false 911 call.

Infighting has riven Community Board 6 since last week's contentious committee resolution that urged the State Liquor Authority to deny the bar a renewal on its license unless it reduces the alleged noise that upsets many neighbors between Fifth and Sixth avenues.

But one of the supporters of that May 8 resolution, which passed 6-2, owns a bar himself -- and is now facing a conflict of interest charge...... [The Brooklyn Paper]

Basically Union Hall lost round one, and this Wednesday (May 14, 2008) is round two at Borough Hall with more board members and more important politicians. If you're interested in supporting Union Hall, you can show up with signs at Borough Hall (209 Joralemon Street, Brooklyn, New York) on Wednesday at 6pm.

Even if Union Hall loses round two, they don't lose their liquor license yet. It is then up to the state to decide what happens. Union Hall wasn't allowed to present any evidence last week. This time they can, and their ammunition includes the competing bar owner voting against them, and the Union Hall surveillance video that I've embedded below....

Dagger God @ Magnetic Field, Brooklyn, NY - March 29, 2008
Goes Cube

We decided to head to Magnetic Field for their last Saturday night show before they close. Dagger God -- aka Goes Cube, fresh of a SXSW-centerpieced tour -- were playing and it's always great to see a band play when they've just returned from tour because they're usually playing as tight as they ever have and seem happy to be home, which makes for impressive shows. And the band didn't let us down. [Stereoactive]
The Condo Fucks played the night before.

Magnetic Field

Magnetic Field in Brooklyn is closing down, and this is sadly their final week of shows. Last night's show featured The A-Bones and special guests the Condo Fucks. Bryan Bruchman (aka Subinev) was there to document the action....

not to be confused with Fuck Buttons....

Condo Fucks

The Condo Fucks are playing Magnetic Field in Brooklyn Friday night (March 28, 2008). It;s one of the venue's last shows ever. Who are they? According to the club they are,

Of "Government Problem," "Fuckin' Gary Sandy," etc. fame.
The other band on the bill is The A-Bones. Their show description reads...
Adieu Magnetic Field! Friday night of the final week for a venue that must shoulder much of the blame for us still being together. Say it ain't so!!!! We're extra jazzed to be playing with The Condo Fucks of "We're Moving In!" fame.
And most interesting of all is this message from Matador Records:
Legendary Matador Recording Artists Return To The Stage This Friday

The Condo Fucks are supporting the A-Bones this Friday night at Brooklyn's Magnetic Field. Doors open at 8pm, there's an $8 cover and DJ Phast Phreddie will be spinning. Records, presumably.

At first I thought of Stephen Malkmus because he has three NYC shows coming up, but he'll be in DC Friday night. Now I think it's got to be Yo La Tengo, or at least related to them somehow, but really I have no idea.

Fuck Buttons are playing that night too, but at Bowery Ballroom.
