Rap duo Main Attrakionz released the sequel to 2011's 808s & Dark Grapes II with 808s & Dark Grapes III at the end of June. The album was produced entirely by Friendzone, and features appearances by Shady Blaze, Robbie Rob, Dope G & Lo Da Kid. You can stream the whole thing and watch two videos (both directed by Kreayshawn) below.
Main Attrakionz are also going on a short tour in support of it. We already mentioned one NYC show with Stitches in July 23 at The Studio at Webster Hall, which now also includes Buckwheat Groats (tickets), but more have since been added. They also play an in-store at Rough Trade NYC on July 25, and they have two Long Island appearances, one of which is the Billboard Hot 100 Festival at Jones Beach with The Faint, Justin Bieber and more. Tickets for that fest go on sale today (7/16) at 10 AM.
All dates are listed, with the album stream and videos, below...
Long Island's Nikon at Jones Beach Theater will play host to pop music festival Billboard Hot 100 Music Festival on August 22-23 (making that a busy weekend with Brooklyn's Afropunk festival). You probably don't care that Justin Bieber is playing, but depending on how much of a poptimist you are, it's potentially interesting that they have The Weeknd, Skrillex, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, iLoveMakonnen, Fetty Wap, Kiesza and Santigold. Plus underground rappers Main Attrakionz and, weirdly enough, indie-dance bands Holy Ghost! and The Faint. Tickets go on sale Thursday (7/16) at 10 AM with a Citi presale starting Monday (7/13) at 9 AM. Full lineup (with one more TBA) below.
The fest is a week before Fetty Wap returns to the venue to open for Chris Brown (sigh), and about a month after Nicki Minaj's big Barclays Center show with Meek Mill, Rae Sremmurd, Tinashe and DeJ Loaf.

Joey Bada$$ & Pro Era, Flatbush Zombies and The Underachievers have a big Central Park SummerStage show on July 7 coming up (tickets). That show ends at 10 PM, but Pro Era, Flatbush Zombies and The Underachievers will also play another show later that night at Highline Ballroom. Doors are at 11:15 PM. Tickets are on sale.
Speaking of rap shows at Central Park SummerStage, rapper Young Thug is playing there on September 17 with trap producer RL Grime. Opening that show is Mr. Carmack. Tickets are on sale. You can watch the video for "Check" off Young Thug's recent Barter 6, below. All RL Grime dates here.
RL Grime also recently put out the new song "Scylla (VIP)," which you can stream below.
In other rap news, Vince Staples will be in NYC soon for the XXL Freshmen show on June 30 at Best Buy Theater with DeJ Loaf, Fetty Wap, GoldLink, Raury, Tink and more (tickets). Earlier that day, Vince will give a discussion and performance at Apple Store SoHo from 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM. His debut album, Summertime '06, is streaming now and the video for "Señorita" is below.
There's also two more chances to catch Fetty Wap in and around NYC after that. Fetty Wap & The Remy Boyz will play Stage 48 on July 8 (tickets), and Fetty will open for... Chris Brown on August 30 at Jones Beach (tickets). In case you live under a rock and haven't heard it, you can listen to Fetty Wap's unstoppable "Trap Queen" below.
One last one for now: Viral rapper Stitches (pictured above) will play The Studio at Webster Hall on July 23 with local staples Main Attrakionz. His virality comes from his song "Brick In Yo Face," which was uploaded to YouTube last year and now has over 6 million views, and maybe also because of those face tattoos. The song (which later appeared on the No Snitching Is My Statement mixtape, hosted by Waka Flocka's DJ, DJ Ace) sounds a little more fit for Gathering of the Juggalos than a show with a cloud rap duo, but it's not hard to see why it's taking off. If you haven't heard it yet, see what you think, below. Tickets for the NYC show go on sale Saturday (6/27) at 10 AM.
All mentioned videos/song streams below...

Rap duo Main Attrakionz are set to release a new mixtape next week (10/22) produced entirely by Tynethys -- they're simply calling it Main Attrakionz x Tynethys -- and its final single, "USB," makes its premiere in this post. Tynethys gives it the kind of reverby beat that Main Attrakionz tend to sound good over, with the kind of pitched-up vocal samples that you could imagine coming from either Passion Pit or Drake. That's the mixtape's artwork above, and you can stream the new track below.
Main Attrakionz just played an unofficial Mishka CMJ party at Santos on Tuesday (10/15), and they don't appear to have any other dates scheduled at the moment.
Song stream below...

Deniro Farrar @ NXNE 2013
North Carolina rapper Deniro Farrar had a bit of breakout moment last year with Kill or Be Killed, his collaborative mixtape with Shady Blaze, and this year he caught ears with his solo mixtape, The Patriarch, which came out this past March. He's got ties to the cloud rap scene (he works with Ryan Hemsworth, Main Attrakionz, Keyboard Kid, etc), but similarly to what A$AP Rocky did on this year's Long. Live. A$AP, Deniro expands on the sound and at the rate that he's producing interesting material, he isn't fated to be pigeonholed with it. Deniro's already got the followup to The Patriarch, titled The Patriarch II, out now. You can stream the entire thing below, and it's available to download for $1 at bandcamp.
Deniro Farrar just played a big free rap show in Toronto's Yonge-Dundas Square for NXNE, which also included Ludacris, Joey Bada$$, The Underachievers, Fat Tony, and more. A full set of pictures from that show is
on its way HERE, but meanwhile check out pictures of Deniro from that show, in this post.

FACT is still one of the best sources for cutting edge electronic music, and I always look forward to their top 50 albums of the year list, which they've just published for 2012. As usual, it doesn't only contain electronic albums.
This year's list has a good deal of indie rap (Haleek Maul, Schoolboy Q, Le1f, Main Attrakionz, Spaceghostpurrp) and it's the only non-metal list I've seen so far with Black Breath's Sentenced to Life (!). And of course, to compliment the dancefloor records, it's got its fair share of electronic-tinged indie pop, forward thinking R&B, and outsider experimental music.
Check out the full list below.

Main Attrakionz at BV-SXSW 2012 (more by Amanda Hatfield)
Earlier this month, we mentioned that iPhone/Android app Mobli was throwing a CMJ party with Heems, Sasha Go Hard, Kitty Pryde, Weekend Money, SAFE, The Underachievers, and Party Supplies. That party was supposed to happen today at Delinquency but that venue has since been shut down so the whole lineup (minus The Underachievers and Party Supplies) is merging with the Young One Records showcase, which happens tonight (10/17) at 285 Kent. That showcase, in addition to including the names mentioned above, will have Main Attrakionz, Kool AD, Deniro Farrar, Supreme Cuts, Cities Aviv, Bryant Dope, Ryan Hemsworth, and CBG. SAFE and Ryan Hemsworth are DJing between sets, the rest of the acts are playing live. The show flier and set times are below.
That 285 Kent show is a pretty stacked bill for hip hop, and if you're into stacked hip hop shows like that one, you'll also probably want to check out the Mass Appeal party at Gramercy on Friday (10/19) with Asher Roth, Prodigy (of Mobb Deep), The Alchemist, Large Professor, Mr. Muthafuckin' exquire, Roc Marciano, Boldy James, Ninja Sonik, Bodega Bamz, Alexander Spit, Angel Haze and Timeless Youth. That one's free with RSVP to RSVP@massappeal.com but entry is based on capacity. The flier for this show is below.
As mentioned, Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire also plays SOB's on Thursday (10/18) and an MTV Studio at Webster Hall the same day. That studio show is with Big K.R.I.T. and LE1F, and when we first mentioned it, a "special guest" was billed who has since been revealed as Killer Mike. Tickets for that one are still available.
That MTV show is an early show (5:30 doors) and after that there's a late show with Chuck Inglish (of The Cool Kids), Ninjasonik, ASAP TyY, Blvckalfred, Vault Boys, MopTop, Chase N Cashe, GDP, Vyle, and Curtains. Tickets for that one are still available.
Cities Aviv, in addition to the Young One show, has other CMJ shows, including the Flowerbooking CMJ showcase at Knitting Factory on Friday (10/19) with Unicorn Kid, Ki:Theory, Devin, Ghost Wave, and Talk Normal (tickets) and the Bond Music Group/PopGun show at Cameo Gallery on Friday (10/19) (late show) with Steven A. Clark, Lushlife, Dark Sister, and Pegasus Warning (tickets).
He also plays the free BrooklynVegan day party at Public Assembly on Saturday (10/20) with The Orwells, Eternal Summers, and the rest of the lineup coming soon!
While we're talking about good hip hop shows during CMJ, don't forget the Converse Rubber Tracks/Fool's Gold 5th anniversary show at Music Hall of WIlliamsburg on Saturday (10/20) with Ghostface Killah, A-Trak, Flosstradamus, Donnis, Nick Catchdubs, World's Fair, Troy Ave, and special guests. That one's totally free, first come, first served.
Showcase flier and set times for the Young One/Mobli show are below.

Main Attrakionz @ Glasslands
Main Attrakionz's short run of dates leading up to 35 Denton and SXSW (where they'll play a BrooklynVegan day party) stopped in NYC this week for two shows, starting with a Sunday night show at Glasslands with BBU, Big Baby Gandhi, and Beans. Pictures from that one are in this post. One night later they played The Studio at Webster Hall with a completely different set of openers, Children of the Night, Maffew Ragazino, and Erick ARC Elliot. How was that?
The Brooklyn show was also the mixtape release part for Chicago's BBU, who released the Bell Hooks mixtape last month. It features contributions from Das Racist, The Hood Internet, Tony Baines, Montana Macks, and others. As noted on BV Chicago, the mixtape features the track, "Kurt De La Rocha," which pays tribute to Kurt Cobain and RATM's Zack de la Rocha. You can grab a free download of the entire thing at the Mishka bandcamp
Main Attrakionz also dropped a new track last month called "Focalin." Download that above or stream it below, along with updated dates and more pictures from Glasslands...

Danny Brown @ Echoplex
Danny Brown walked on stage [...] rocking a leather jacket and combat boots, as if ready for war. He'd come to town to please his fans who hadn't caught him at the Roxy last fall, and likely left with many new ones. Kicking off the set with "Radio Song," Brown emoted cool confidence. One thing I immediately noticed was how much his distinct, nasally cadence manages to stand out over the beat. During "Lie4," you could hear every one of his lyrics clearly, something practically unheard of for a hip-hop concert, which often drown the vocals in bass. The crowd showed appreciation by yelling back the chorus: "Got that income tax swag."[LA Weekly]Danny Brown, Main Attrakionz, Kid Sister, and Party Supplies played a Check Yo Ponytail show at Echoplex in LA this past Tuesday (1/24). ScHoolboy Q was at the show and joined Danny Brown on stage for "Blunt After Blunt." A video of that performance, along with a video collage and more pictures from the show below.
ScHoolboy Q JUST (minutes before I typed this) released a new video for "Nightmare On Figg St." off his great new mixtape Habits & Condtractions. Watch that video below (and one we previously posted HERE).

Main Attrakionz at BV-CMJ 2011 (more by Bryan Bruchman)
"Best duo ever" Main Attrakionz are the most recent addition to our Green Room Sessions, the video series we recorded during this past CMJ. Main Attrakionz played our Thursday Day Party at Knitting Factory and stopped by our Public Assembly party later on that week for a beat-less version of "Church" and a short interview, both of which you can watch below.
Main Attrakionz have a few upcoming shows including two in NYC happening on March 4 at Glasslands and March 5 at The Studio at Webster Hall with special guests.. A full tour has not been announced yet but more dates will most likely be revealed soon. Tickets for the Glasslands show and the Studio show are on sale now.
They also play a Check Yo Ponytail show next week in LA at Echoplex (1/24) with Danny Brown, Party Supplies, Thee Mike B, and a special guest. In honor of the show, Main Attrakionz have made a mix called Tag Champz, which includes cuts by Main Attrakionz members Squadda B and MondreM.A.N., in addition to others by Slick Rick (who plays LPR TONIGHT (1/21)), Three 6 Mafia, Wu-Tang Clan, 2Pac, and others. Stream that mix below (where you'll also find the tracklist) and download it above.
In related news, Main Attrakionz member Squadda B released a new mixtape on Christmas, titled Back $ellin Crack, which you can stream and purchase at bandcamp. It features Danny Brown, Main Attrakionz member MondreM.A.N., and others. The mixtape came out the same day as Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire's mixtape which also features a guest spot from Danny Brown. Yellow Ostrich @ Knitting Factory
As far as BrooklynVegan shows were concerned, we started out this year's CMJ in a lowkey manner with a free Thursday day show at Knitting Factory in Brooklyn. We Were Promised Jetpacks, announced that same day, headlined the show that began with a set by Yellow Ostrich at 12:30pm.
Though they didn't play acoustic like they did the night before at the FatCat CMJ showcase at Mercury Lounge, WWPJ mixed it up by performing as a three-piece since one of their members wasn't in town yet. Expect a four-piece at Webster Hall and other dates of their tour. Austin's Hundred Visions played their 2pm set despite their 15 passenger van being stolen from its parking spot in Williamsburg the night before. Luckily most of their gear was not in it at the time.
The whole day looked like this:
12:30 Yellow Ostrich (Barsuk)Those in attendance also enjoyed free beverages courtesy of HobNob Wine and PBR, and free snacks courtesy of popchips and Raw Revolution.
1:15 Still Corners (Sub Pop)
2:00 Hundred Visions (unsigned)
2:45 Forest Fire (FatCat)
3:15 BOBBY (Partisan)
4:00 Main Attrakionz (Mishka)
5:00 We Were Promised Jetpacks (FatCat)
Thanks everyone who stopped by. Here are some pictures. More below...
Nothing like waiting for the last minute! Please join us for a somewhat low key affair this Thursday (10/20) afternoon at Knitting Factory in Brooklyn for an all ages, FREE, afternoon show featuring:

2:00 Hundred Visions (unsigned)
2:45 Forest Fire (FatCat)
3:15 BOBBY (Partisan)
4:00 Main Attrakionz (Mishka)
UPDATE: The Phantom Family Halo has sadly cancelled due to a family emergency. Yellow Ostrich has stepped in to take their place though!
Prefer beer? We'll also have free PBR while supplies last.
Get there early because first 25 people in the door will also receive a rare BrooklynVegan t-shirt! (not many of these exist - we sold them for charity at CMJ last year).
We're getting a little techie this year too and have partnered with Spotify (our official official digital music service partner) and Sony Bloggie (our official video partner) for all BV CMJ events including the two TBA ones happening at Public Assembly on Friday & Saturday. Stay tuned for a BV video series coming after CMJ with highlights, interviews and special performances from the week (all filmed on a Bloggie). Listen to a playlist that contains four of of the six artists playing this show on Spotify now (Phantom Family Halo's recently-released four-song EP they did with Bonnie 'Prince' Billy included). .Stay tuned for more Spotify playlists throughout the week too.
Thanks also to Knitting Factory Records & Partisan Records for helping make this happen, and thanks to Zach Jaeger (Tonally Dude) for the flyer you see above. See you Thursday! Meanwhile check out Still Corners' video for "Wish" below...
