Legendary dream pop band Mazzy Star are currently on tour in support of their first new album in ages. The current leg of that tour features support from Psychic Ills, and as discussed, it hits NYC on Wednesday (11/20) at Terminal 5. That date is sold out, but we're giving away a pair of tickets.
Since we last spoke, psychedelic folk singer Mariee Sioux, who opened some of the West Coast dates and whose hushed, airy vocals likely owe a bit to those of Hope Sandoval, was added to a few of the Northeast dates, including NYC. Last year Mariee released a new album, Gift for the End, and a collaborative EP with Bonnie Prince Billy, both of which you can read more about here.
Her new label, Whale Watch Records, also recently announced the very first vinyl pressing of her 2007 album, Faces in the Rocks, and they're reprinting it on CD for the first time in five years too. Both reissues come out on December 10, and you can pre-order now.
All remaining Mazzy Star dates are listed, along with some Mariee Sioux streams, below...
Mazzy Star in Portland - 11/3/13 (via @themahgoots)
Psychedelic rock trio The Entrance Band are set to follow their self-titled 2009 album with a new one, Face the Sun, on November 19 via Beyond Beyond is Beyond Records. You can stream the first two singles, "Fire Eyes" and "Spider," along with the album artwork and tracklist, below.
The Entrance Band have a few shows scheduled for this fall, including one in NYC opening the previously discussed Mikal Cronin show at Webster Hall (12/11). Delicate Steve offshoot Saint Rich is on that bill too, and tickets are still available.
Before that though, they'll be doing some support dates on the Mazzy Star tour (like they did in 2012), which they joined in Portland, OR last night (11/3), the second night of the tour. Psychedelic folk singer Mariee Sioux is also on a few of the west coast dates, including this past Friday's (11/1) tour kickoff show in Sacramento.
The Entrance Band and Mariee Sioux have a few more dates with Mazzy Star before Psychic Ills take over as the openers on the rest of the dates, including the NYC show happening on November 20 at Terminal 5. Tickets for the T5 show are still available, and we're also giving way two pairs to the show. Each pair comes with a t-shirt that the winner can pick up at the show. Contest details below.
So far, Mazzy Star's setlists have been similar (but not identical), balancing their initial three '90s albums with this year's reunion album, Seasons Of Your Day. Check out the setlists for the Sacramento show and the Portland show, along with a short clip of the band playing "Fade Into You" in Sacramento, below.

Back in April, we mentioned that California's Mariee Sioux had finally gotten around to releasing her new full length, Gift for the End, and it's out now as the first release for new Brooklyn Label Whale Watch Records. The album is one of the finest psychedelic folk releases of the year, and if you've yet to hear it, you can stream some tracks from the album below or listen to it on Spotify.
When we last spoke, we mentioned that Mariee had promised a North American tour for the summer/fall. That tour has finally been announced and it includes two Brooklyn dates: September 8 at The Rock Shop and September 9 at Zebulon. Both dates are with Original Bingo Club. No advance tickets for either show at the moment.
A list of all dates and those song streams are below.

DOWNLOAD: Bonnie 'Prince' Billy & Mariee Sioux - "Loveskulls" (MP3)
Californian folk singer Mariee Sioux released her first official full length, Faces in the Rocks (which you can help her buy back the rights to), in 2007 on the now-defunct Grass Roots Record Co. It's a delicate, flute-filled psychedelic folk album with finger picked guitar and airy vocals recalling the work of rediscovered '60s/'70s artists like Vashti Bunyan and Linda Perhacs. Now, five years later, she's finally set to release its followup, Gift for the End. The album's already out in Europe and it comes out in the US on April 17, as the first release for Brooklyn label Whale Watch Records.
Though the strong presence of the flute that populated Faces in the Rocks is missed on Gift for the End, the album is an equally strong example of Mariee's ability to craft bare, dreamy folk that captivates from start to finish. Stream three album tracks, "Homepathic," "Ghosts In My Heart," and "Swimming Through Stone," below, where you'll also find the album's artwork and tracklist.
Mariee is touring in support of the album this month and next in Europe. No North American dates have been announced yet, but a note on her website reads, "Pardon my french. Americans, we're coming back for you late Summer & Fall..." Hopefully we'll be getting a NYC date on that tour. All European dates are listed below.
Mariee Sioux also recently released a collaborative EP with Bonnie 'Prince' Billy (Will Oldham), who she's opened for in her home state. The EP, appropriately titled Bonnie & Mariee, came out physically last month and digitally the month before. On the EP, Bonnie and Mariee are joined by an impressive group of musicians, including Paz, Nate Walcott, Jonathan Wilson, Farmer Dave Scher, Derek James and Dave Brennen. Their voices and musical styles blend really well together and it's great hearing them backed by a Crazy Horse styled backing band. Grab the track "Loveskulls" at the top of this post, or stream it below with the EP's artwork and tracklist.
