Unearthly Trance at Saint Vitus (more by Greg Cristman)
Unearthly Trance shows are few and far between nowadays, but the band will awaken from their live slumber to play Acheron on March 1st as part of a bill that includes The Communion, Water Torture, and Syphilitic Lust. $8 gets you in the door. Check out the flyer below.
Horseback has completed their new LP Half Blood due via Relapse this Spring. Details are limited so far, but Roadburn has more details about the record and its "amalgamation of drone, doom, black-metal, psychedelia, post-rock, noise, and ambience recorded with a wide array of instruments including guitar, bass, drums, keys, piano, bells, contact mics, field recordings, drum programming, noise and various signal processors." Yep, sounds like a Horseback record!
Check out a new Noisear track from their upcoming three-way split with Antigama and The Kill above. The track features vocals by Mitchell Luna of ex-Maruta fame.
Perdition will join Varix, Murderer and Sad Boys at Heaven Street Records TONIGHT (2/3). Door entry will cost you zilch and beers will cost you a dollar. Sounds like a winning night of furious, crusty punk to me.
Drainland will share a split 7" with Crows due on Suburban Mayhem Records. Stream the material from that release below.
Slices are preparing their new LP Still Cruising for Iron Lung Records. Look for it in the coming weeks and stream "Greensleeves" from the LP below.
One interesting and important footnote to the upcoming Behold the Arctopus show at Saint Vitus on Feb 24th... Support will come from Mindless Blasting and Geryon, two bands which feature Mick Barr with Nondor Nevai and Nick McMaster with Lev Weinstein respectively. Basically, a night of Krallice-related projects... should be interesting. Tickets are on sale.
Like Flipper, a reunited Sleepytime Trio are playing a show at SXSW in Austin this year.
No NYC dates, but Ringworm, Cancer Bats & Primitive are touring from Ohio to SXSW and then back to Ohio together. OFF! were also recently announced on the SXSW lineup.
Mastodon/Opeth/Ghost tickets went on sale earlier today.
Saturday's Ceremony, Pissed Jeans, The Rival Mob, Hoax, Kim Phuc, Gods and Queens show @ Le Poisson Rouge is now sold out.
Converge announced a tour.
YOB recently visited NJ with Tool. Right before that, they headlined their own show in Chicago with Anatomy of Habit and an opening set by YOB's Mike Scheidt who is going to release a solo album this year on Thrill Jockey. BV Chicago has pics from the Chicago show.
If you missed it, check out my interviews we just posted with English Dogs guitarist Gizz Butt and Mark "Barney" Greenway of Napalm Death. (Pilgrim too actually.)

Coke Bust at Acheron (more by BBG)

Coke Bust will return to NYC with Tenement, D.O.C. and Rational Animals to play Acheron on 1/4. The show is one of a few dates for the fast-hardcore crew. Chris of Coke Bust/Magrudergrind will also be playing drums with D.O.C. when they play Saturday (12/17) at Death By Audio with Triac, Backslider (who are streaming a new track), and Psychic Limb as part of Defeatist's farewell show. Defeatist's Tyranny of Decay was one of my favorite records of 2011, and the Coke Bust show at Acheron was also one of my favorites of the year.
Weekend Nachos have added a gang of dates with Homewrecker leading up to their appearance at A389 Anniversary. Those dates include a stop at ABC No Rio on 1/19. Full tour schedule is below.
Morbid Saint will hit the road for a pair of East Coast gigs that will include Europa on 1/20 with Deceased, Carcinogen and Midnight Hellion. Tickets are on sale.
Check out a new track from The Devil's Blood, as well as a teaser for a second track below. The band's new LP The Thousandfold Epicentre hits via Metal Blade on January 17th.
Maruta has called it quits.
Poison Idea will reissue Darby Crash Rides Again: The Early Years, The Fatal Erection Years (aka Pick Your King/Record Collectors are Pretentious Assholes), War All The Time, Ian Mackaye, Feel The Darkness, We Must Burn and Last Will & Testament via Southern Lord and TKO Records.
Pallbearer was great for the limited time that I saw them at Rites of Darkness (due to schedule changes), and now you can stream a new track from their forthcoming Profound Lore LP via Pitchfork. Look for Sorrow and Extinction via the label on February 21st.
Birds In Row will release Collected via Vitriol on January 17th, a prelude to their Deathwish release due next year. Collected features previously released tracks from the French sludgy-hardcore band, and is streamable in full below. Preorder your copy of Collected via Vitriol.
On another note, this will be the final Evillive until the New Year, so have a happy one and make sure and leave any notes/comments below. Thanks for reading, and supporting independent music in 2011. All suggested shows, Weekend Nachos dates, and some streams are below.

Rotten Sound

With all of the love floating around for the new Trap Them LP (totally warranted), I'm a bit puzzled that their future European tour mates Rotten Sound hasn't rattled as many cages. Rotten Sound's Cycles was a burner, and similarly the band's new LP Cursed pulls from grimy Swedish death metal and combines it with Nasum's grind annihilation. Cursed is due on Relapse Records on March 15th and features "Hollow" and "Self" (both in video form below), as well as "Plan" which you can download above (for the first time) and stream below. Preorder a copy, it rules. Rotten Sound recently played Gramercy Theater and will hit the road of Europe with Trap Them/Gaza in early April.
One grind band that is getting its fair share of attention is Florida's Maruta, whose new LP Forward Into Regression is currently streaming in full at MetalSucks (you can also grab three of those songs for download above). Preorder that LP via Willowtip.
In other news, Holy Grail will team up with Cauldron for a North American tour that will include May 4th at Union Pool. All tour dates are below. Holy Grail released their latest LP Crisis in Utopia via Prosthetic this past fall.
Malignancy will team up with Humanity Falls, Andromorphus Rexalia, Respawn The Ancients, Ambient Death and Legionary to play Manhattan's Bowery Electric on 3/20. Humanity Falls is also scheduled to take on Party Xpo in Brooklyn on 3/26 with Backslider.
After a successful show supporting Eyehategod, Misery Index will return to NYC to support the tongue-wagging NYDM team Suffocation. Look for the pair plus more TBA at Santos Party House on May 15th. Tickets are on sale.
France's Celestia will team up with Forteresse to play Santos Party House (South Pole) on April 29th. Tickets are on sale. Celestia released Archaenae Perfectii in 2010 via Apparitia Recordings

Rotten Sound

The ante has been upped. The previously mentioned Auditory Assault Festival just got a little more serious with the addition of THREE bands that made my list of favorite records in 2008... Rotten Sound, Crowpath, and Misery Index! Dig on the NEW lineup which now also includes Lethal Aggression, Entrails Massacre, Sulaco, Man Will Destroy Himself, Maruta, and Copremesis....
