Waxahatchee at Saint Vitus in 2012 (more by Fred Pessaro // BBG)

Waxhatchee (aka Katie Crutchfield, formerly of PS Eliot) will release her sophomore album, Cerulean Salt, on March 5 via Don Giovanni, and you can stream the first single, "Peace and Quiet," below. The album sometimes features a fuller band approach than her mostly acoustic debut, American Weekend, and the recordings aren't as raw, but the songs are no less intimate.
Waxahatchee will be going on a tour this winter which includes two previously discussed NYC dates. One of those is the Don Giovanni showcase at Music Hall of Williamsburg on February 8 with Laura Stevenson and the Cans, Jeffrey Lewis, Lemuria, and Hilly Eye (tickets; and the other is Indie Pop Prom on February 28 at 285 Kent with The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Swearin' (Katie's sister Allison's band), Weed Hounds, and Potty Mouth (tickets). Both shows have great lineups and either would be a good place to see her.
In related news, Katie also plays in the band Great Thunder with her boyfriend Keith Spencer (who also plays bass in Swearin') and that band plays their first Brooklyn show TONIGHT (1/24) at Death by Audio with Heavens Gate, The Guts, and Marvin Berry & the New Sound.

Shellshag at Cake Shop in June (more by Andrew St. Clair)

Brooklyn's Shellshag just got home from a US tour this week, and though Hurricane Sandy hasn't made NYC the easiest place to return home to, hopefully everything is okay for them. We'd like to assume so because Shellshag are treating Brooklyn to two hometown shows, including one this weekend. First, they'll play XPO 929 on Saturday (11/3) with Moisture and N/A and then later this month they'll play Death by Audio on November 11 with The Max Levine Ensemble, Marvin Berry & the New Sound, and Trepanning. Both shows appear to be happening as scheduled. Tickets for the XPO 929 show are on sale now. No advance tickets for the Death by Audio show.
Marvin Berry & the New Sound also open for Shellshag's one-time Don Giovanni labelmates BIg Eyes when their tour with Audacity hits Death by Audio on November 21.
Shellshag's most recent release is the "Stars n Bars" 7" that came out over the summer. You can stream the title track off that 7" below.

Big Eyes at Knitting Factory in 2010 (more by Andrew St. Clair)

West coast melodic punks Big Eyes and Audacity are teaming up for a split 7" and tour together this fall that hits Brooklyn on November 21 at Death by Audio with Marvin Berry and the New Sound and Space Trash and New Brunswick on November 23 at The Alamo with Wet Witch. The 7" comes out via Volar Records and can be pre-ordered now. All dates on the tour are listed below.
Big Eyes (who are fronted by Kate Eldridge, formerly of Cheeky, and relocated from Brooklyn to Seattle last year) released their debut full length, Hard Life, in 2011 via Don Giovanni, which is also home to Screaming Females, who they've played with in NYC before. They'll follow that with a new LP in 2013 via Grave Mistake Records, who also put out a 7" for the song "Back From The Moon" b/w "I Don't Care About Friday Night" earlier this year. You can stream the a-side of that 7" below. They're also repressing their 2010 demo on Evil Weevil Records and it will be available on the tour.
Audacity, who were last in NYC as King Tuff's backing band, put out their most recent album, Mellow Cruisers, earlier this year via Burger/Recess Records. You can stream that album in its entirety over at Noisey. Back in June, we premiered a video for album single, "Punk Confusion," which if you missed then, you can watch below.

Night Birds at House of Vans, August 2012 (more by Fred Pessaro // BBG)

Night Birds posted this on their Facebook yesterday:
By the end of tonight we should have 10 songs out of our 15 song goal done for our 2nd album. All killer, no filler. Making progress...That forthcoming new LP is the follow-up to thier killer The Other Side of Darkness, which hit late last year. Pray for some new tunes when the band takes on Cake Shop tonight (9/28) with Sonic Avenues, Marvin Berry & The New Sound and Trepanning. $10 gets you in.
In addition to tonight's appearance at Cake Shop, look for the band to play October 6 at Brighton Bar in Long Branch, NJ with Angry Samoans (who play NYC next week) and Chronic Sick, as well as shows at Acheron with Toys That Kill and Chaos in Tejas next year.

The Two Funerals at Death by Audio in 2011 (via)

Richmond punks The Two Funerals list their band interests as "DIY spaces, house shows, feminisms, and ROCKING WITH THE TOUGH GRRRLS," and their influences as Sleater-Kinney, Bikini Kill, and Sonic Youth, so they're probably pretty psyched that they're opening for former Sleater-Kinney member Corin Tucker when her tour passes through their hometown. And from the sounds of the title track of their 2011 Boys Club EP (which you can stream below), The Two Funerals wear their influences on their sleeves, but they wear them well. Maybe you caught the band in NYC opening for PS Eliot at their final show (and are playing with PS Eliot spinoff Swearin' at a Philly show on their upcoming tour), or in NJ earlier this year at C.L.I.T. Fest.
Those aforementioned upcoming shows with Corin Tucker and Swearin' are part of a 5-night tour of the Northeast which kicks off in CT next week and culminates with a Brooklyn show at Tommy's Tavern on September 20 (1041 Manhattan Ave in Brooklyn) with Marvin Berry and the New Sound, Wide Angles, Gameday Regulars, and Crow Bait. Admission for that show is $5 at the door.
A list of all dates and that song stream are below.

The Babies at Glasslands - 6/6/12

The Babies joined up with new Other Music Recording Co. singees Nude Beach, plus Marvin Berry & The New Sound, Highway Gimps for a show at Glasslands on Wednesday (6/6). More pictures from that show are in this post.

by BBG

Brooklyn band Nude Beach's new LP II has a a pronounced punk edge, while falling somewhere between the Americana of Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen and The Replacements. The sunny, well-crafted, and damn-near infinitely playable straight-up rock n' roll long-player, out now on vinyl, is currently streaming in full below. Order your copy via No Idea or get the digital via the band.
Nude Beach will play Glasslands on June 6th, joining Marvin Berry & The New Sound and Highway Gimps as support for The Babies. Tickets are on sale. The band will also hit Philadelphia on June 19th at Kung Fu Necktie as support for Reigning Sound (tickets) during that band's string of dates (that hit NJ).
