Government Issue

Gainesville punk bonanza The Fest has added more bands to its 2015 lineup. There's reunited hardcore legends Government Issue (who also play NYC this month), party animal Andrew WK, Ramonesy punks Mean Jeans, Gainesville vets Radon, one of Mikey Erg's many bands Hatrabbits, a solo set from KJ of Chixdiggit, emo revivalists Football etc, and more.

BeltonesBeltones

The lineup also includes a lineup of late '90s/early '00s Florida punks The Beltones, who played a few other reunion shows this current decade like Punk Rock Bowling 2012. To quote a 5-star Punk News review of their second and final album, 2001's Cheap Trinkets:

The Beltones possess a wide variety of influences-from rockabilly to the Pogues-and the convergance of such varying styles while maintaining a strong punk feel is no easy task. But the Beltones do it really well, and such talent recalls the brillaince of a band like the Swingin' Utters. Another reason this band stands apart from the rest is the emotional depth of the songs. I'm not going to make absurd comparisons by calling the lyrics Dickinsonian or whatever, but singer Bill McFadden is a pretty adept song writer. His lyrics of alienation, pain, lost hope are a refreshing substitute to the "beer guzzling because my girl left me so I'm gonna go to the pub and get in a fight with my bros backing me up" b.s. that is so prevalent in punk today.

NOFX

Fat Mike's label Fat Wreck Chords turns 25 this year, and in celebration of that, his band NOFX and a handful of other Fat bands are going on a tour together this summer. Lagwagon, Swingin' Utters, The Flatliners, Masked Intruder, ToyGuitar and Bad Cop/Bad Cop round out the bill.

The tour doesn't hit NYC but it will be nearby on August 14 at Stone Pony Summer Stage in Asbury Park, NJ. Tickets for that show are on Citi presale now, and they go on Live Nation/Ticketmaster presales Wednesday (4/29) at 10 AM, and on sale to the general public Friday (5/1) at 10 AM. All dates are listed below.

NOFX haven't released an album since 2012's Self Entitled, but Fat Mike was busy working on his punk rock musical, Home Street Home, and releasing its soundtrack which features members of Descendents, Lagwagon, Alkaline Trio, No Use For A Name, Frank Turner, Mariachi El Bronx and more. You can stream two tracks from that below.

Lagwagon released their first album in nine years last year, Hang (and earlier this week frontman Joey Cape ranked the rest of their albums), and you can stream three tracks from that below. They're also playing The Fest this year.

Folk punks Swingin' Utters reunited back in 2010 and have remained very prolific since then. They released their third album since the reunion last year, Fistful of Hollow, which is certainly not a repeat of their more classic material but often rivals it in quality. You can stream two tracks from that one below too.

Swingin' Utters member Jack Dalrymple (also of One Man Army and Dead To Me) makes garage punk in his side project ToyGuitar, who are on the Fat 25 tour and released their debut album In This Mess earlier this year. Check out the lead track "Human Hyenas" below.

Good Riddance

In other Fat news not related to this tour, Good Riddance, the melodic hardcore band who reunited in 2012, released their first album since 2006 last week. It's called Peace In Our Time, was produced by Descendents/Black Flag's Bill Stevenson, and can be picked up at the Fat webstore. It has them still in great form -- stream it (via Substream Magazine) below.

Former Fat but now major label band Rise Against have a Central Park Summerstage show coming up on July 28. That's with Killswitch Engage and Letlive, and tickets are on sale.

The former Fat, then major label, and now Spinefarm-signed Anti-Flag have a new album coming this year, which you can hear a song from here.

The once Fat-signed band Bracket returned late last year with Hold Your Applause (on High Output Records), their first album since 2006. That's streaming below.

Canadian Celtic punks The Real McKenzies released their eighth album, Westwinds, on Fat earlier this month (stream a track below), and their tour hits NYC on June 10 at Bowery Electric with BOIDS and The Young Rochelles. Tickets are on sale.

Strung Out released their metallic-edged eighth album, Transmission.Alpha.Delta, on Fat this past March and they bring their tour with Red City Radio and La Armada to NYC on May 10 at Gramercy Theatre. Tickets are on sale.

If you're into ska punk, Less Than Jake (who signed to Fat in 2013) bring their tour with Reel Big Fish to NYC on June 16 & 22 at Best Buy Theater (tickets).

Sweden's Millencolin, who were never on Fat but used to be Epitaph labelmates with NOFX and appeal to the same '90s-punk fanbase as most of these bands, released their first album in 7 years this week. It's called True Brew, is out now on Epitaph, and can be streamed in full below (via AbsolutePunk).

Yesterday, Millencolin's fellow Swedes and labelmates Refused announced their first album in 17 years, and Epitaph honcho Brett Gurewitz's band Bad Religion are touring.

All mentioned song streams, and the Fat 25 tour dates, below...

Banner Pilot
Banner Pilot

Minneapolis punks Banner Pilot recently put out their new album, Souvenir, via Fat Wreck Chords. In their own words, "We sound a little like Jawbreaker, Lawrence Arms, Dillinger Four, and other bands like that," so one's trying to reinvent the wheel here, but if you're looking for more stuff like that Banner Pilot's got it. They're on tour now and will hit NYC on May 24 at Knitting Factory with local bands Sad & French and The Jukebox Romantics. Tickets are on sale now. Stream a track from the new album, with their list of dates, below.

Speaking of modern Fat Wreck Chords bands devoted to sounding like older ones, Masked Intruder (who literally perform masked) are touring with their former Red Scare labelmates Direct Hit! and directly hitting NYC on June 25 at The Studio at Webster Hall with The Priceduifkes. Tickets for that show are on sale now. All dates are listed below.

Yet another Fat band, The Flatliners, will team up with melodic hardcore vets A Wilhelm Scream in NYC on July 12 at the Marlin Room at Webster Hall. Local pop punk faves Chumped are on that show too, as well as A Balance Between. Tickets are on sale.

To see some actual '90s skate punks in NYC, Guttermouth will be at Santos Party House on June 26. Tickets for that show are on sale now.

Captain, We're Sinking
CWS

Scranton, PA punks Captain, We're Sinking return to NYC on June 28 at Union Hall with Up For Nothing, City Limits and Sketchy. Tickets are on sale.

Meanwhile, the exact same day at Irving Plaza (5/30) is the Anti-Nowhere League / Cro-Mags show which also includes Mephiskapheles, Night Birds, Up for Nothing, and DJ the Guvnor (tickets).

The day before that, fellow UK punks The Adicts play Highline Ballroom (5/29) (tickets). Both of those bands will be in the area after having played Las Vegas' Punk Rock Bowling.

NYC gets its own punk festival with tons of veteran bands, Black N' Blue Bowl, which happens on May 17 & 18 at The Well with Discharge, Agnostic Front, 7 Seconds and more. You can get single day passes or 2-day passes.

Other upcoming punk festivals include The Fest, Riot Fest, and This Is Hardcore.

Other punk vets with NYC shows include Subhumans, Dead Kennedys (without Jello Biafra), and Jello Biafra.

Apple Stomp

In related news, punk's upbeat, often-maligned yet often-beloved cousin, ska, will also be represented in NYC in the upcoming few months.

Tonight (5/7), the fun-loving theatrical weirdos The Aquabats hit Irving Plaza, and tickets are still available.

Irving also hosts a two-day ska festival, The Apple Stomp, on May 31 & June 1 with Five Iron Frenzy, Big D and the Kids Table, The Toasters and more. Tickets, including single-day and 2-day pass options, are on sale.

Mustard Plug play Knitting Factory on May 17 with Deal's Gone Bad, Butcher Knives and The Fad. Tickets are on sale.

Mad Caddies play Santos on May 16 with Mrs. Skannotto and Across the Aisle. You can get tickets.

The Pietasters go on a Rocks Off Cruise on July 25. Tickets are on sale for that.

And The Slackers also go on a Rocks Off Cruise on August 23. Tickets are on sale for that as well.

Of course there are always other punk and ska shows coming up in NYC too. What did we miss?
