Neko Case in Long Island in 2011 (more by Greg Cristman)
Neko Case

Browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight's shows. Here are some highlights...

Neko Case, AC Newman @ Radio City Music Hall
Neko Case has another lovely album under her belt -- The Worse Things Get, the Harder I Fight, the Harder I Fight, the More I Love You -- and will play one of NYC's most regal venues. Her New Pornographers bandmate, AC Newman, opens the show.

Matias Aguayo, JDH & Dave P @ Le Poisson Rouge
Matias Aguayo has been making quality music for years, both as a solo artist and also as one half of German duo Closer Muzik, but his career got a bit of a boost (at least in North America) when he collaborated with Battles to sing lead on their song "Ice Cream." Tonight he returns to NYC for a FIXED party.

'We Have An Anchor' @ BAM
Jem Cohen presents his new work as part of BAM's Next Wave Festival, a cinematic tribute to Nova Scotia with live music by a band that reads like an ATP line-up: Guy Picciotto (Fugazi), Jim White (Dirty Three), Efrim Manuel Menuck and Sophie Trudeau (Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Thee Silver Mt. Zion), and more. Tonight's the first of three performances and tickets are still available.

Vista Chino, Black Pussy, Kings Destroy @ Bowery Ballroom
For a while, John Garcia and Brant Bjork of stoner metal legends Kyuss were operating as Kyuss Lives, but they've since changed the band's name to Vista Chino, and also just released a new album, Peace?.

Porches, Laser Background, Isadora, What Moon Things @ Cake Shop
Local "bummer-pop" band Porches have been having a pretty good year with the recognition they've been getting for their new album, and tonight they've got another of their many hometown shows, happening at Cake Shop.

Allah-Las, Reverbation (DJ set) @ Mercury Lounge
Los Angeles' Allah-Las do a great job of making '60s West Coast pysch pop their own, as heard on last year's debut album. They play two shows at Mercury Lounge tonight, both of them sold-out.

Saves The Day, Into It. Over It., Hostage Calm @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Long-running NJ pop punks Saves the Day, who released their first album on Equal Vision since 1999's Through Being Cool this year (stream it), are in NYC tonight for a sold-out show at Music Hall of Williamsburg. Opening is Pitchfork-approved emo singer/songwriter Into It. Over It. and Hostage Calm (who also play CMJ).

SECRET HEADLINER, Iron Chic, Banquets, Chumped @ Saint Vitus
Jaded Punk, who wishes Saves the Day wold be good again, is hosting a show at Saint Vitus, not very far from MHOW, with a secret headliner and a lineup of pop punk openers, including Banquets (who opened Saves the Day's NJ holiday show in 2011). Hmmm...

UPDATE: You can now RSVP to the Jaded Punk show starting at 1 PM, and you will not be admitted without RSVP.

Okkervil River, Black Joe Lewis and the Honey Bears, Pickwick @ Terminal 5
Indie folk band Okkervil River have been at it for over a decade now, and even if their most memorable records are behind them, their newer stuff, including this year's The Silver Gymnasium, is still pretty good.

Eugene Mirman, Jim Gaffigan, Ira Glass, Monica Bill Barnes, Anna Bass, Wyatt Cenac @ The Bell House
It's once again time for the Eugene Mirman Comedy Festival and tonight's kickoff event is titled "The Urbane Comedy Hour: Non-Stop Courtesy and Culture Through the Prism of Comedy." Sounds deep. Sold out.

Telepathe, Eraas, Advaeta, A Place Both Wonderful and Strange @ The Bowery Electric
Spacey duo Telepathe headline this show, but fans of gothy postpunk might want to go just to check out Eraas and Advaeta.

Lee Foss, Mosco, T.Williams, French Fries @ Output
At this point, UK house producer Lee Foss might be more famous for his "supergroup" Hot Natured, but his own music still sets off dance floors too, and he'll do that at tonight's weekly INPUT party at Output.

Carcass, Immolation @ The Gramercy Theatre
British death metal legends Carcass released Surgical Steel, their first album since reuniting, this year (and first since 1996), and it's no nostalgia act; this is one of the contenders for metal AOTY. So naturally there's a ton of excitement behind this week's NYC shows, both of which are sold out. Tonight's their second of the two shows.

Graham Nash @ City Winery
The "Nash" in Crosby, Stills & Nash, one of the songwriters in '60s pop group The Hollies, and a reputable solo artist as well, Graham Nash continues his three-night run at City Winery tonight.

Chick Corea @ Blue Note
Jazz fusion pianist Chick Corea, known for collaborations with Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, and others, continues his 6-night run at The Blue Note tonight.

DJ Clark Kent, D-Nice, Rich Medina, Stretch Armstrong, Tony Touch @ Santos Party House
Like they did last month, Santos is hosting The Originals party with DJ sets from these hip hop vets.

Elliot Sharp, Noura Mint Seymali & Jeiche Oula Chighaly, Eli Keszler @ Issue Project Room
The Issue Project Room's 10th anniversary celebration continues tonight, headlined by avant-guitarist improvisationalist, Elliot Sharp.

Rewards, Bad Girlfriend, Cheerleader, Mt. Royal @ Pianos
Bad Girlfriend are better than your average girl-group-inspired garagey combo. You can check out a few recordings from last year below. Their debut album, due early next year, is being produced Aaron Pfenning of Rewards, who also play tonight. It's all in the family.

Communication Corporation, Mannequin Pussy, Vacation Jason, Shivering Brigade @ Death By Audio
Tonight is another of The Chris Gethard Show's "Weirdest Bands We Know" shows. Question is are they the weirdest band you know?

Gate, Tom Carter, Samara Lubelski + Marcia Bassett @ Union Pool
Four experimental musicians -- Gate (Michael Morley of The Dead C), Tom Carter (of Charlambides), and the duo of Samara Lubelski (Jackie-O Motherfucker, Chelsea Light Moving) and Marcia Bassett (Double Leopards) -- team up for a show at Union Pool tonight.

For all of tonight's shows, and tomorrow's, check out our full NYC show calendar.

For laughs, check out the NYC Comedy calendar too.

Matias Aguayo
Matias Aguayo

Tim Sweeney's WNYU radio show Beats in Space is celebrating its 13th anniversary this year with shows at Brooklyn's Cameo Gallery on October 12 and 13. Day 1 features Kompakt-signed electronic duo Pachanga Boys (aka German producer Superpitcher and Mexican producer Rebolledo), who will be making their US debut at the show, along with Andrés. Day 2 features Matias Aguayo and French DJ Ivan Smagghe. Tim Sweeney will also be at both nights. Tickets for both nights are on sale now.

You may know Matias Aguayo as a one half of German duo Closer Muzik, or from his solo career which he's had since the latter half of the last decade. His most recent release is the I Don't Smoke EP, which you can stream the title track from below. He also released a split single in 2009 with Pachanga Boys' Rebolledo, which featured a track by Rebolledo that Matias sang on (stream below). Though at this point, Matias may be best known for his vocal contributions to the frenetic, sugary single, "Ice Cream," off of Battles' 2011 LP, Gloss Drop. He also contributed to the track "Tanto" off the Baio (of Vampire Weekend) EP, Sunburn, which came out earlier this year. You can stream that track, along with a list of all Matias Aguayo dates, below.

As for Pachanga Boys, they've got a few EPs under their belt since forming in 2009, including the most recent Christine EP, which dropped this past July. You can stream the track, "Legs," from that EP, along with a list of all Pachanga Boys dates, below.

Additionally, song streams by Andres and Ivan Smagghe, and lists of dates by all four artists are below.

Lindstrom

Lindstrom will be releasing a 12" of remixes from his Six Cups of Rebel LP on June 25 with remixes from Oneohtrix Point Never (who plays Ecstatic Summer), Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti, and Mark McGuire (of Emeralds). Have a listen to Oneohtrix Point Never's take on "Call Me Anytime" below.

Lindstrom is currently on a tour which brings him to NYC on Friday (5/25) for the previously discussed Webster Hall show with Simian Mobile Disco (tickets). That tour will also bring him to Detroit's Movement Electronic Music Festival this weekend where he'll play alongside Public Enemy, Actress, SBTRKT, Major Lazer, Gold Panda, Nina Kraviz, Matias Aguayo, FaltyDL, AraabMUZIK and more. Tickets for the fest are on sale now. The full lineup is listed below.

Speaking of electronic music festivals, Mutek goes down in Montreal from May 30 - June 3. The Mutek lineup includes Kode9, Nicolas Jaar, Clark, Blondes, Apparat, Shlohmo, Shackleton, Stephen O'Malley & Tim Hecker, Biosphere & Lustmord, and more. The full lineup is listed below.

In related news, as mentioned, Apparat will come to NYC after Mutek for a show at Gramercy Theater on May 31. It's since been announced that Sleepyhead will open that show. Tickets for that show are still available and we're also giving away a pair. Contest details below, along with a list of all dates, song stream, and those festival lineups.
