Texas producer Botany is releasing his new album Dimming Awe, The Light Is Raw this week (9/18) on Western Vinyl. It was mixed and mastered by Matthewdavid, who also contributed vocals to one track, and other guests include Matthew's Brainfeeder labelmate RYAT and abstract rapper milo, who releases his own new album so the flies don't come next week (9/25). milo is on Botany's psychedelic new single "No Translator," which includes a shoutout to Mick Jenkins and premieres in this post. Listen below.
Milo has a NYC show coming up on October 24 at Shea Stadium with Safari Al, Premrock & Curly Castro, Big Breakfast, Ehiorobo and Kenny Segal. Tickets are on sale.

"Remixes Vol. 1" is a new compilation by Young Magic with "contributions by Teebs, Doldrums, Matthewdavid, Roland Tings, unreleased mixes by LA experimentalists The Acid, New York's Rioux and an exclusive mix from Nicholas Taylor of Gray (Basquiat's no-wave project)." The benefit album is available for purchase and free streaming at Bandcamp and below.
Young Magic and The Acid will team up again on June 16 for a Popgun-curated Red Bull Sound Select show at Lot 45 in Bushwick (411 Troutman St). Like all RBSS shows, this one is just $3-with-RSVP to get in. Lord Raja, who also has a Northside show coming up with Shigeto at Knitting Factory, is also on the bill.
The Acid, a trio, were last in NYC in 2014 as part of a tour in support of their Mute-released debut album. Much more recently they played a show in LA at the El Rey with Peaking Lights, and appeared on Carson Daly. Video from the TV appearance can be watched below.
The member of The Acid with the longest resume is veteran DJ/producer Adam Freeland, who among other things, is known for his remixes, like the one he did for his now-Mute labelmates Grinderman. You can also listen to that one below...
Balmorhea duo (photo by Matt Rainwaters)
Post-rock collective Balmorhea are reissuing their self-released 2007 self-titled debut on October 14 via Western Vinyl, and they'll be scaling down to their original duo formation of Michael Muller and Rob Lowe for a European tour and US one-offs in Austin and Brooklyn. The Brooklyn show happens October 28 at The Green Building (452 Union St) with their labelmate Christopher Tignor. Tickets are on sale now. All dates are listed below.
In addition to the reissue, Balmorhea also have a 7" of two new full-band songs, "Heir I" and "Heir II," and there's a few commissioned remixes for the songs including one by Brainfeeder associate Matthewdavid. Matthewdavid's twist on "Heir I" premieres in this post and can be streamed, along with streams of both original tracks, below.
Matthewdavid also has a few of his own shows coming up this month, including one in NYC at Death by Audio on October 7 with local rap eccentric Cities Aviv. It's not only one of the last chances to get to DbA before it closes in November, but also a rare chance to see to see a hip hop-oriented show at that venue (Matthewdavid's new album is pretty rap/R&B-ish). Also on the bill is Trabajo and The Lark Kidder Band.

Huerco S. practices minimal, lo-fi synth pop on the track "Prinzif" from his new effort Colonial Patterns, out September 24 via Mexican Summer's Sofware imprint. It's second track from the album to see the light of day and resembles early Washed Out. You can stream it and its predecessor "Quivira (Reprise)" below.
Huerco S is scheduled to play the final PS1 Warm-Up of the season this Saturday (9/7, tickets) and then will hit 285 Kent later that same night to team with Madteo, Matthewdavid, Anenon and A Pleasure. Tickets are still available.
Outside of those dates, look for Huerco S. to join names like Zola Jesus, The Orb, Nicolas Jaar and many esteemed others at the Decibel Festival in Seattle at the end of September. Huerco S. replaced The Haxan Cloak who cancelled, and is playing an XLR8R showcase with Evian Christ. Full lineup for that festival and that stream is below.

Sun Araw at BV-SXSW 2012 (more by Nate "Igor" Smith)
Sun Araw and M. Geddes Gengras took part in one of 2012's most interesting (relatively) obscure releases with Icon Give Thank, a collaborative album with reggae legends/Lee "Scratch" Perry associates The Congos. And towards the end of the year, the three collaborators released a 5-track live EP recorded with the Raw Power Band at the Village Underground in London this past June. You can download that EP (name your price) at bandcamp and stream the whole thing below.
Both Sun Araw and M. Geddes Gengras are teaming up this month for a NYC show which happens on January 19 at Knitting Factory with Ital, who toured with M Geddes Gengras (and Laurel Halo) in 2012 around the time he dropped Dream On, his second album of 2012. Tickets for that show are on sale now. It's the only currently announced date for Sun Araw but Ital has other upcoming dates, which are listed below.
Sun Araw is featured on an upcoming double album compilation from Stones Throw and Leaving Records (Matthewdavid's label) called Dual Form which drops January 22 in cassette, LP, CD, and digital formats. The compilation also features Julia Holter (covering Arthur Russell), Dntel, Run DMT, Odd Nosdam and many more. You can stream Sun Araw's contribution, "Right Off," and check out the full tracklist below. The cassette version features bonus tracks by Matthewdavid.
All streams and a list of Ital dates below...

Frankie Rose & band @ Hotel Vegan (by Amanda Hatfield)
"...it offered the perfect setting for seeing multiple bands within an intimate setting in a short amount of time. Sure it was a long walk down Sixth Street to get there, and it may not have been the most well kempt venue (I'll be honest, it was a shit-hole), but the three stage set-up provided for prime SXSW day party viewing. I had the pleasure of seeing Chelsea Wolfe, Japandroids, Frankie Rose, Deaf Heaven, and Japandroids all within the span of a couple hours. All of these bands were on my list of bands I wanted to see, and thanks to this venue, I was able to cross more bands off my list than past years"One of the stages on Wednesday was dedicated to Chicago bands courtesy of BV Chicago, and one was put together by BBG. It was on the latter that we hosted an afternoon set by Deafheaven who created NY Mag's Nitsuh Abebe's favorite moment of SXSW 2012.

Dam-Funk @ Union Pool
Union Pool already has a taco truck, so It might have been physically impossible to get a low-ridin' Impala to bounce in that outdoor courtyard. But I'm guessing that's what was needed last night (10/26) to complete the atmosphere of a surprise appearance from electronic-funk great Dam-Funk & Master Blazter with DJ Matthewdavid and Lone Wolf & Cub. Here are some pictures of the party.
The show, announced yesterday, followed a show at Highline Ballroom with Matthewdavid the night before and was part of a string of East Coast dates for the Westside-Zapp & Roger-devotee. All tour dates and more pictures from last night's show are below...

Matthewdavid playing in LA (Silent Stutter)
Matthewdavid is sharing his bass-heavy beats with NYC quite a few times this week. In addition to playing Knitting Factory this past Saturday (5/28) with The Gaslamp Killer, and the previously announced 285 Kent show this coming Saturday (6/4) with Sun Araw (who is now up at Mutek), he plays a late party at Cameo Gallery tonight (6/2) with Howse. The Brooklyn event at Cameo is being billed as a "rare live audio-visual performance" and four other DJs are also on the bill.
By 6/9 Matthewdavid will be back on his coast because he's appearing at Amoeba in LA, but it won't be long before he returns to NYC again to play a Saturday 'Warm Up' event at MoMA's PS1 on 7/9 with Four Tet. Four Tet plays Camp Bisco one day earlier. Full 'Warm Up' schedule, and more details still TBA.

Above, we have an MP3 of the track "Noche Y Dia / San Raphael" off Matthewdavid's recently released Outmind. Download it for free (and grab "Like You Mean It" if you haven't already too). The recently-released video for the same song is below.

The Gaslamp Killer @ Terminal 5
The Gaslamp Killer was recently in NYC to open for A-Trak at Terminal 5. Pictures from that show (that Clipse also played) are in this post. More of them, with more dates too, below...
"Seeing Sun Araw live feels as much like a dream as reality, and high energy never came easy. It felt a bit like drowning in codeine syrup, you struggle at first, and then eventually realize it feels better to be in the syrup than out of it.LA's Sun Araw (aka Cameron Stallone) will kick of a FULL BAND tour of the East Coast on June 2nd at the Mutek Festival in Montreal, followed by a string of dates, a few in the NYC-area included. On June 3rd Stallone will DJ Coco66. The occasion is the NYC debut of Sun Araw's own LA-based party WHERES YR CHILD - "A dub/italo/dance party rooted in the traditions of cosmic LA." Sex Worker/Psychic Reality, and Todd Pendu are all also on that bill and tickets are on sale. The following day (6/4), the Sun Araw Band will play live for the first time in NYC (Sun Araw has only played solo in the past), in Brooklyn at 285 Kent with M Geddes Gengras, Matthewdavid, and D'Eon. Then after a quick trip down to Baltimore to play Ottobar, Hoboken club Maxwell's will host the band on 6/7 with M. Geddes Gengras and Deep Magic (tickets). All dates are listed below.
Cameron really pulls out the tropical nature of SoCal in his music, and almost gives you the impression of sleepwalking through a luau. This is especially strange because he originally hails from Austin, TX, which is anything but tropical.
His music feels a bit like you're searching for some sort of hidden revelation amongst some ancient ruins on a desert island, among many other conjurations your mind will develop while being sunk into the vibes." [Sub-Radar]
Sun Araw will be previewing material from a forthcoming LP entitled Ancient Romans, and the band currently has multiple releases up for sale at their webstore, including a pair of recent cassette releases Sadistic Candle and Hold The Phone. For those of you who are curious as to what Hold The Phone is like, here's a preview.
HOLD THE PHONE is mustard and ketchup on a deviled egg.Are we clear? If not, head to their store and stream samples from the cassettes and other releases.
HOLD THE PHONE is your dad whistling at a 16-year-old girl.
HOLD THE PHONE is yin all dressed up in yang clothes.
HOLD THE PHONE is Woodstock yelling at Snoopy.
HOLD THE PHONE is Cameron Stallones and Barret Avner.
HOLD THE PHONE is two boys talkin'.
Matthewdavid, who will play the 6/4 285 Kent show, is also on board to support Gaslamp Killer at Knitting Factory on 5/28 (tickets). Matthewdavid recently released a collaborative cassette with Sun Araw, which is now sold out. They also played a show together at the Smell in LA last night (5/5). LA Record helped promote it by having the two artists compile a mixtape of YouTube videos.
Annual electro festival Mutek goes down in Montreal this year from June 1-5, and features multiple notables like Amon Tobin, Four Tet, ARP, Sun Araw and dozens of others. Tickets are currently on sale. The lineup is below. We haven't been since 2009 and miss it.

Gaslamp Killer at LPR (more by Chris Doss)
For those of you counting at home, that makes TWO NYC dates for Gaslamp Killer, who'll also open the festivites at Terminal 5 on 4/30, alongside the turntable wizardry of A-Trak, the cocaine-storytelling of Clipse and Kid Sister as part of the Magic 8-Ball tour. Tickets are still available for that 4/30 show, but you can also try to win a pair of tickets. Details on the BrooklynVegan contest are at the bottom of this post.
Knitting Factory show opener Matthewdavid has been quickly climbing upwards in the electronic world after releasing the International EP on Flying Lotus' Brainfeeder label this past March. Matthewdavid (real name Matthew McQueen) tells Pitchfork that he and FlyLo, who are both part of the LA beat scene, met back in 2006 at a FlyLo gig at Low End Theory and have influenced each other's sound since. Like FlyLo and other Brainfeeder musicians, Matthewdavid creates instrumental hip hop beats with an experimental spin. He douses glitchy beats with a layer of ambience, while occasionally throwing in dubstep-y bass. He recently followed up his EP with the Outmind LP released April 19 via Brainfeeder (despite having his own label Leaving Records). The album features contributions from Flying Lotus, Niki Randa, and Dogbite. Download the track "Like You Mean It" off Outmind above.
All tour dates, the contest details and some videos are below....
