As mentioned this past January, Williamsburg got a new, 452-capacity dance club, Output at 74 Wythe Ave by N. 12th St. We weren't sure exactly what types of "techno, house and other EDM styles" would be booked at the venue, but we're happy to report that they've already got some great shows coming up, as part of their weekly Thursday party, INPUT.

Tonight (2/28), Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs is DJing the venue with Rory Phillips and Nick Hook. Tickets for tonight's show are available.

We already mentioned that Shlohmo's tour with D33J hits the venue on March 7, but that show is even better than we knew then, because Rustie, Jackmaster, and Oneman are on it too. Tickets for that show are on sale now.

Then on March 14, Maxxi Soundsystem will play with Compuphonic, Plastic Plates, and Let's Play House's Jacques Renault (tickets). Meanwhile, there's a Let's Play House party happening this Friday (3/1) at Le Bain with DFA Records DJ Shit Robot and Eug.

The Night Slugs crew is hitting the venue on March 21 for a great show which features Bok Bok, Kingdom, L-Vis 1990, Girl Unit, Mike Q, Rizzla, and a live set from Teengirl Fantasy collaborator Kelela. Tickets for that one are on sale now.

Maxxi Soundsystem

It's anchors aweigh for a downtown Brooklyn market built in shipping containers -- and its vendors are awash in anxiety about their future.

DeKalb Market merchants are upset the Flatbush Ave. open-air shopping bazaar is shutting down this fall -- far sooner than expected -- to make way for a housing development with a Century 21 department store.

They say market operator Urban Space told them moving to a new Brooklyn location -- which hasn't been found yet -- will be a three-week process. They'll be out of business just when their crucial holiday selling season begins.

"I have to figure out how to save my business," said Maxcine DeGouttes of Stitch Therapy, who probably won't move her yarn shop to DeKalb's new site. She worries the market can't survive in a less-densely populated locale. [NY Daily News]

Dekalb Market, original space, we hardly knew ya. In addition to the vendors, it was also home to the occasional Rooftop Films screening and live shows though most this summer have ended up moving locations (though not due to the above news). Chromatics, who were to play Dekalb on July 22, moved to Music Hall of Williamsburg (tickets still available) and we since realized that the Fixed x The Dog & Pony Show featuring Maxxi Soundsystem that was to have happened on August 18 has moved to Le Poisson Rouge. Tickets are on sale for the LPR show.

Not everything has fled Dekalb just yet. On the 4th of July there's a party "Deep Space: Mission 1" from 3PM - 9PM with Francois K, King Britt, FaltyDL and Infinity. Tickets are on sale. Flyer for the party is below.

Chromatics at Radio City last month (more by Dana (distortion) Yavin)

Chromatics who released the much talked about Kill For Love earlier this year, and was in NYC for two shows last month, are continuing to play shows internationally over the next few months. They'll return to NYC for another show on July 22 at Dekalb Market in Brooklyn for a "Fixed x Dog and Pony" show with Blondes. Some of their other US dates, including Boston and Philly, are with Hot Chip, who play Prospect Park with Gang Gang Dance a few days prior (7/18).

Blondes also play Dekalb Market, but on June 3rd (and not with Chromatics as originally posted). Both shows, and one with Maxxi Soundsystem, are on sale.

Chromatics have also released a drumless version of Kill For Love. Here's what Johnny Jewel told Pitchfork about the album:

It's 11 tracks, because some of the tracks don't have drums to begin with. It's all the pop songs without drums... I think people will have a lot of fun with it because everyone keeps remixing 'Birds of Paradise' because there were no drums on it... I also mastered an instrumental version of the entire album. I always master multiple versions in case I want to collage or edit them later. I was really liking the way the vocal mixes sounded with no drums and I think that the drums on the album are so heavy, that it's interesting to hear the record as this almost-empty, almost-a cappella kind of thing.
