Nocando

LA rapper Nocando, who hosts the Low End Theory hip hop night and founded the Hellfyre Club label, is releasing a new album, Jimmy the Burnout, on March 18 via his own label, and he's just released a single from it, "Lucid Dream." The track sees Nocando impressively flowing over a funky Dam-Funk beat, and singer Piatra Hawkins flirts with indie-R&B on the airy chorus. It's a solid track, and can be streamed below.

Nocando is currently on the road for the Hellfyre Club-presented 'Dorner vs Tookie' tour which also includes Busdriver, Open Mike Eagle and Milo. That tour hits NYC on March 6 at Mercury Lounge. Tickets are available. List of all dates and tour flyer below.

Dam-Funk has a few upcoming dates too, including a free NYC show happening on March 7 at Brooklyn Night Bazaar with Maya Vik, Gordon Voidwell and DJ Thanksgiving Brown. Like all BKNB shows, it's no cost to enter and watch the music, and there's also tons of not-free food, drinks, shopping, and games. All of his dates are listed below too.

Listen to "Lucid Dream," with both lists of tour dates, below...

Tangerine Dream at Best Buy Theater in 2012 (more by Greg Cristman)
Tangerine Dream
Bouncing Souls

Browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight's shows. Here are some highlights...

Bouncing Souls, Brian Fallon, Nude Beach, Aye Nako @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
The next BrooklynVegan-curated installment of the Red Bull Sound Select series happens tonight at Music Hall of Williamsburg. For this one, we teamed up with Gaslight Anthem frontman Brian Fallon to co-curate the show with us. He'll play a solo set before a headlining set from New Jersey punk forefathers Bouncing Souls (Hot Water Music drummer George Rebelo in tow), who were a large influence on Brian's band. Opening are two great smaller Brooklyn bands: punk-inspired power pop trio Nude Beach and self-defined homopop/queercore band Aye Nako, who make raw, honest pop punk.

Doors for the MHOW show open at 6:30 PM and the music starts at 8. Like all RBSS shows, admission is $3 at the door. First come, first served. Hope to see you there.

Massive Attack V Adam Curtis @ Park Avenue Armory
Trip hop pioneers Massive Attack have collaborated with filmmaker Adam Curtis for this thought-provoking sensory overload. Reggae legend Horace Andy and Cocteau Twins vocalist Liz Fraser add to the experience. Just don't expect a traditional concert.

Fat Tony, Mess Kid (DJ Set), Ezra Marcus (DJ Set), Skate Dude Thrash, Cumdrizzle, DJ Yung Primo @ 285 Kent Avenue
It's a <3CANDY<3FROM<3STRANGERS party.

Quinn Walker (of Suckers), Wild Yaks, Cameron Hull, Rewards, Lakutis, Dapwell (Das Racist, DJ Set) @ Cameo Gallery
Some members of NYC's indie pop and alt-hip hop scene come together for this Cameo show tonight.

Ed Askew, Mary Lattimore & Jeff Zeigler, The Monte de Rosas Band @ Death By Audio
Folk legend Ed Askew is pretty active on the NYC scene these days, and tonight he's performing with a full band that includes Mary Lattimore, Diane Cluck, Bobby Copperhead, and Matthew Robinson.

Jagwar Ma @ Mercury Lounge
Australia's Jagwar Ma, whose debut album owes much to the '90s baggy scene, make their American debut tonight. Sold out, as is tomorrow's Glasslands show. But they'll be back in December.

Susanne Sundfor, For Every Story Untold @ Mercury Lounge
You may know Susanne Sundfor as an M83 or a Royksopp collaborator, but the Norwegian art pop artist also has a number of her own records out, and her solo material is of quality too

Eleanor, Couches, Beach Arabs, Backlights, Maya Vik @ Pianos
Here's another chance to catch San Francisco's grungy, poppy Couches while they're still in town.

Moon Tooth, Vulture Shit, War Generation, Basal Gang, The People's Temple Project @ Saint Vitus Bar
Long Island metal band Moon Tooth, who Metal Sucks compared to Torche, Mastodon, and Baroness, headline this show at Saint Vitus. If you're headed to this one, don't miss guitar-less Brooklyn punks Vulture Shit.

Steely Dan @ Beacon Theatre
Donald Fagen and Walter Becker start their seven-night run at Beacon, tonight doing their classic Aja in full, plus "selected hits." You can still get tickets.

Tangerine Dream, The Alchemist, Oh No, Woody Jackson @ Church of St. Paul The Apostle
If you haven't left your house since Grand Theft Auto V came out, this might be a good reason to. Four of the game's key composers, ambient legends Tangerine Dream, hip hop producers The Alchemist and Oh No, and composer Woody Jackson (Red Dead Redemption, LA Noire) are performing at this NY Film Fest-related event tonight. Recommended for non-video game nerds too.

Flying Lotus, Gilles Peterson @ Le Poisson Rouge
After that GTAV show, there's an official afterparty with Flying Lotus and BBC's Gilles Peterson, who both hosts radio shows in the game.

Dita Von Teese @ The Gramercy Theatre
Burlesque superstar Dita Von Teese begins her four-night run at Gramercy. Tickets are still available.

Typhoon, Radiation City, My Body @ Le Poisson Rouge
Like Sufjan and Beruit? Maybe it's time to check out this Portland's orch-pop ensemble.

Night Train w/ Wyatt Cenac @ Littlefield
Wyatt Cenac does his weekly Night Train comedy show at Littlefield with guests James Adomian, Streeter Seidell, Katina Corrao, J.F. Harris, Josh Makinda, and more.

Bon Iver at Bonnaroo 2012 (more by Dana (distortion) Yavin)
Bon Iver

Bon Iver recorded an iTunes session at East West studios which is available exclusively from iTunes starting today. It includes six tracks off 2011's great Bon Iver, Bon Iver and a cover of Bjork's "Who Is It?," which the band has played live many times. You can stream the session's opening track, "Beth/Rest" below.

As mentioned, Bon Iver is touring internationally throughout the summer and fall and will come to NYC on September 19 and 20 at Radio City Music Hall. Both of those shows are now sold out. All Bon Iver dates, including a recently announced European leg, are listed below.

Speaking of Bjork, she's teaming up with the New York Public Library (NYPL) and the Children's Museum of Manhattan to create interactive educational programs for middle school-aged students based on her Biophilia app. Speaking about the program, Bjork said:

"It's not a bookish thing. You cannot learn to make music from a book." "I love books; they're like the best ever," she added. "There are things you can only learn from books, but it's also important to introduce the physical aspects. So for me, it was very important to make, somehow, music education that was physical." (via NY Daily News)
Both Bon Iver and Bjork are set to play Oya Festival in Oslo, Norway this summer (Aug 7-11) with The Stone Roses, Refused, The Afghan Whigs, Bob Mould (performing Copper Blue), Chromatics, Cloud Nothings, John Maus, Purity Ring, Saint Etienne, SBTRKT, Screaming Females, St. Vincent, and more. Full list below.

Way Out West (Aug 9-11) in Gothenberg, Sweden features many of the same bands as Oya like Bon Iver, Refused, Afghan Whigs, St. Vincent, Purity Ring, John Maus, and Bob Mould in addition to Blur, Wilco, I Break Horses, Hot Chip, The War On Drugs, Mark Lanegan Band, Adolescents, Swans, and more. Check out the spotify playlist. The full lineup is listed below.

As mentioned, the reunited Mazzy Star is set to play both of those European festivals. Full lineups and the Bon Iver dates and song, below...
