Merriweather Post Pavilion record (craigowaffles)

The album the Chicago Tribune and Stereogum.com have already dubbed one of the best of the week-old year, Animal Collective's Merriweather Post Pavilion, could make some serious news next week when the Nielsen SoundScan numbers come out.

Why? The album, which won't get released on CD until January 20, dropped on January 6 in a deluxe double-LP 180-gram gatefold vinyl format accompanied by a full album download. And thanks to a series of listening parties across the country, it just might break into the albums chart next week, thanks to vinyl sales only. [MTV]

Animal Collective's Merriweather Post Pavillion is out on vinyl this Tuesday January 6th. Listening parties will be held the same day in many different locations around the country. NYC's is at Other Music who say, "We're throwing a listening party in the shop that night from 6 to 8PM, with free pizza and beverages, plus raffles and give-aways galore. See you Tuesday!" Pitchfork returned from vactation today and gave the album a 9.6.

Animal Collective's 9th full-length album, Merriweather Post Pavilion, will be released early on deluxe 2xLP 180-gram gatefold vinyl with full album download card (WAV or MP3) January 6th 2009, on Domino Records in North America. The CD & digital release date will remain January 20th (Jan. 12 UK/Europe).

To coincide with the early vinyl release will be a series of release/listening parties across the country in conjunction with Terrorbird Media, Domino, record stores, blogs and college radio stations. The release parties will take place at record stores or venues the week of the vinyl release and will feature pre-orders, Animal Collective listing party exclusive goodies including giant posters and download cards, ticket giveaways and grand prize giveaways of 'The Domino Years' prize packs. Every party will be a little different, and information on the specifics of each party will be available on the host's website.
