Metallica @ Bonnaroo 2008 (cred)

I hate Metallica now too, but that doesn't change the fact that they used to be the best...

Kirk Hammett of Metallica & My Morning Jacket @ Bonnaroo 2008

Bonnaroo resides on farmland about 65 miles southeast of Nashville, with campgrounds adjoining the festival site. It draws people who arrive for a long weekend, often with hippie wardrobes and mud boots for Bonnaroo's nearly inevitable rain. They'll probably play at least that long at MSG on New Years Eve too. Check out the setlist and more pictures below....Fans stood through an intermittent deluge as My Morning Jacket, a band from Louisville that pushes pealing, surging Southern rock toward soul and psychedelia, played a three-hour set in Saturday's wee hours. "It feels awesome to be bathed in beautiful golden rain," said the band's leader, Jim James. [NY Times]

What else?

Metallica are playing Bonnaroo this weekend."While we occasionally enjoy reading the various comments, rumors, speculation, reviews, gossip and all the good that the internet brings, rarely do we feel the desire/need to respond to the "blogosphere" . . . hey, everyone is entitled to have their thoughts and opinions, right? However, once we re-surfaced on Tuesday after a few weeks on tour in Europe, we were informed that someone at Q Prime (our managers) had made the error of asking a few publications to take down reviews of the rough mixes from the new record that were posted on their sites. Our response was "WHY?!!! Why take down mostly positive reviews of the new material and prevent people from getting psyched about the next record. . . that makes no sense to us!"" So after a few rounds of managerial ear spank and sentencing everyone at Q Prime to 20 push-ups each, we figured why not take matters into our own hands and just post the links here on our site. Kerrang, Metal Hammer, The Quietus. "You see, we have maintained an "in the press" section here on Metallica.com for many years now, posting links to reviews of shows, album and DVD releases, and various other tidbits we've come across while surfing around. Some good, some not so good, but we put 'em all up . . . sort of the same way we treat our message boards on this site . . . welcoming all feedback.
"So in the spirit of keeping this section current, we've put as many of the reviews of the rough mixes of the new record up here as we could find. If we missed any, let us know . . . and in the meantime, we're always adding, so peruse at your leisure."

Tegan & Sara's upcoming NYC show at Terminal 5 will accomodate around 3000 people and is still almost a month away, but it did really sell out. Last night they played Jay Leno (April 23, 2008). That video, and the latest tour dates, below.....

On this day, all of these stores will simultaneously link and act as one with the purpose of celebrating the culture and unique place that they occupy both in their local communities and nationally.Metallica will help the celebration by playing an in-store Rasputin Music's Mountain View store, near San Francisco (via).
Music, theatrical, and gaming companies who wish to participate are encouraged to begin thinking of how they would like to work with us on their projects. This can include anything from samplers for the goodie bag, a special enter-to-win promotional offer, partnerships on marketing campaigns, a special one-day sale campaign, in-store appearances, fun events, and information/samples of new formats. Lez Zeppelin is playing Bonnaroo

No Led Zeppelin, but there is LEZ Zeppelin, Robert Plant and Metallica. Also Pearl Jam, Kanye West, Sigur Ros, Levon Helm, M.I.A., Mastodon, Sharon Jones, and many, many more.....

Tegan & Sara keep going and going and going (it's a good thing). Tickets go on pre-sale tomorrow for April and May shows that include May 12th at Terminal 5 in NYC. I don't want to go into the bigger venue rant here, but I really don't think they should be playing a venue that large - they'll feel so far away. Good for them though I guess, and I'm sure it will sell out. Regular sale starts Friday at noon. All dates below....

The Noise Pop Festival returns in 2008 from February 26 to March 2. Over six nights, Noise Pop 16 will take over the best-loved venues in San Francisco, to host unforgettable performances by Magnetic Fields, The Mountain Goats, The Gutter Twins, Cursive and dozens of other important indie rock, electronic, punk and cutting edge musical artists, transforming the city into an almost week-long celebration of the finest that the underground and not-so-underground has to offer, nationally and locally.Kelly Stoltz, Tilly & The Wall, Capgun Coup, Fleet Foxes, Fu Manchu, Saviours, Man/Miracle and Blitzen Trapper are also confirmed.
Not confirmed at all is this letter Bob Lefsetz sent out from someone he purposely left anonymous....
Zeppelin just confirmed for Bonnaroo. They can't officially announce until after the London gig so pass it on! Also Metallica is confirmed on the bill too!In related news, Led Zeppelin denies that they're going on tour with the Cult (thx Hiro).
Like Bonnaroo, the new Vineland Music Festival in NJ will offer 3 days of music and camping (but much closer to home - my home anyway). I hope Led Zeppelin plays that too.
Magnetic Fields are also playing four NYC shows and have a new album coming out soon. The Mountain Goats just played NYU and also have a new album coming out soon. Robert Plant has a new album out, and it's selling really well.

At first I thought M.I.A. was talking about Aziz....

Coincidentally, I took this picture of Les Savy Fav playing Guitar Hero at SXSW this year. I'm glad I waited four months to post it...

Jerry asked:
If you had to select a LSF song to be in Guitar Hero III, what would that be? Also, a non LSF song.
Seth Les Savy Fav answered:
I'd have to go with either "Pills" or "Adopduction" off of Go Forth OR "The Sweat Descends" from Inches. "Pills" has a lot of variety - both chords and single-note progression. "Adopduction" would fit nicely in the top 2 tiers of the game - it's not a face melter, but it has it's chops. "The Sweat Descends" is just guitar mania and a crowd-pleaser. As far as non LSF tunes, I'd say early Metallica - preferably "Master of Puppets" for its scope and orchestration.
