André de Ridder of Berlin collective Stargaze will be conducting Ensemble LPR at their homebase, LPR aka Le Poisson Rouge on Wednesday (3/11) for the premieres of two new pieces by indie musicians. One is by Mica Levi of Micachu & the Shapes and the other is by David Longstreth of Dirty Projectors. Both Longstreth and Levi will be in attendance but will not be performing. Tickets are on sale.
Dirty Projectors are also on the new MusicNOW - 10 Years compilation with Sufjan Stevens, Fleet Foxes' Robin Pecknold, Grizzly Bear, Arcade Fire's Richard Reed Parry, Bon Iver's Justin Vernon, My Brightest Diamond, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Sharon Van Etten and more. The comp is a collection of recordings from Bryce Dessner's MusicNOW Festival. This year's takes place this week, March 11-15. The comp is out today (3/10) and you can stream six of its tracks below.
UK music magazine Uncut put out their list of the top 75 albums of 2012. The top ten leans pretty heavy on long-running '60s/'70s survivors who put out new albums this year, but plenty of the list-topping regulars from newer acts are on there too, along with a few interesting surprises (Sun Araw, M Geddes Gengras & the Congos!). You can check out the full list below.
As mentioned, Animal Collective are playing two nights at Terminal 5 (12/4-5) to make up for their cancelled Williamsburg Park show. The first night (12/4) is with Traxman, and no opener has been announced yet for the second night. Tickets for both shows are still available and a portion of the proceeds will go to The American Red Cross to help Hurricane Sandy relief.
Like Amanda Palmer, Animal Collective just spoke to us about their top 10 things of 2012, some of which were albums, like the one by their tourmates Micachu & The Shapes and the new Madlib-produced Georgia Anne Muldrow album, whereas other things on the list were restaurants they had memorable dinners at and British sketch comedy shows. You can check out the whole thing below.
Animal Collective at Prospect Park in 2011 (more by Vincent Cornelli)
Animal Collective were scheduled to bring their tour with Micachu & the Shapes to Williamsburg Park tonight (10/5), but have cancelled. The band writes...
Hey everyone,Damn. Feel better Dave!
We really wish we didn?t have to be writing this right now, but after taking Dave to the doctor this morning it turns out that he has laryngitis and unfortunately we are unable to play the show tonight. We are already in the middle of trying to reschedule NY dates in the next couple of months to make up for this cancellation.
Due to circumstances beyond both our and the promoter's control, we are unable to honor the tickets for tonight's show. Fans that have tickets will be able to get full refunds at the place of purchase, and we will let everyone know as soon as we have new dates scheduled. Again, our sincere apologies to fans anticipating this show. We are always psyched to play NYC and will make it up to you.
Micachu & The Shapes were supposed to open, but you can still catch them Monday at LPR. Micachu also DJs at Cameo tonight.
Animal Collective did play Fallon last night though. You can watch below...

Tonight (7/17) is the first show for new Brooklyn venue Williamsburg Park featuring Counting Crows, We Are Augustines, Field Report, and Kasey Anderson & the Honkies. Tickets for tonight's show are still available. Maybe this isn't the most exciting start for the venue, but there are a lot of cool shows coming up, including Refused with Off! on Wednesday (7/18), a big outdoor edition of Eugene Mirman's "Pretty Good Friends" with "special guests" and OK GO on Thursday (7/19), Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings and Antibalas on August 18 (FREE), Bob Mould playing Sugar's first two albums on September 7 (FREE), David Byrne & St. Vincent on September 29, Animal Collective on October 5 and more. All upcoming Williamsburg Park shows are listed below.
If you're a fan of Field Report (aka former Justin Vernon cohort Chris Porterfield) but would like to see him in a more intimate setting, he's also playing an early show at Mercury Lounge on Saturday (7/21). Tickets are still available and we're also giving away a pair. Details on how to enter are below.

tUnE-yArDs at Terminal 5 - 6/1/12
Over a year after the release of her album w h o k i l l, tUnE-yArDs still seems to be going strong, playing her biggest paid show yet at Terminal 5 on Friday (6/1). Did you go? How was the show?
If your copy of w h o k i l l is played out, Merrill teamed with Questlove, Beninoise singer-songwriter Angélique Kidjo, and Ghanaian-American rapper Akua Naru for a cover of Fela Kuti's "Lady" which is on the new (Red) Hot + Fela tribute and is streamable below. They played this at Terminal 5 immediately after tUnE-yArDs' ended and the T5 crowd stuck around to dance to it instead of shuffling off home.
The Terminal 5 show was with Micachu & the Shapes who play tonight (6/4) at Glasslands, and Delicate Steve who's new album was streaming via public listening ports at various Manhattan/Brooklyn locations over the weekend. More pictures of tUnE-yArDs, plus Micachu and Delicate Steve, are below.

Micachu and her buddy Kwes
Micachu & the Shapes will release their second album, Never, on July 24. The first track from the album has just been loosed to the internets -- the drony, mechanical "OK" which you can download above. Cover art and tracklist for the album is at the bottom of this post.
Micachu have also just announced a headlining show at Glasslands on Monday, June 4 with Zambri. Tickets for that show are on sale. Micachu will also play the PS1 Warm-Up on July 28 and tickets to that show go on sale June 18.
Michachu also released a new mixtape with pal Kwes and you can stream the entirety of Kwesachu Vol. 2 below, along with a list of all dates.

Blood Red Shoes @ MHOW
After Chris left the BV Loft Party all the way back on Friday, October 22nd, he headed over to Music Hall of Williamsburg for the Blue Flowers-presented CMJ showcase for a lineup of mostly UK bands including Chapel Club, Everything Everything, and Blood Red Shoes (who toured North America with Sky Larkin in October). Pictures from that show are in this post.
The occasion (to post these belated pics)? SXSW has already announced an initial lineup of bands playing in Austin from March 16-20, 2011, and Chapel Club is on that list (and I wouldn't be surprised of the other 2 mentioned bands end up coming too). Also on the list: Lia Ices, Braids, Asobi Seksu, Wye Oak, Suuns, Sun Airway, A Place to Bury Strangers and more. Full list under the rest of the MHOW pictures, below...
