It's been ten years since Marc Nygen Tan released an album as Colder, his icy postpunk dancerock pseudonym. (His second LP, 2005's Heat, was his last.) He's reactivated Colder and will release his third album, Many Colours, on November 6 via Bataille Records. That's the cover art above and you can check out the tracklist below.
By the sound of the album's first single "Turn Your Back," it's gotten even chillier in Colder land, with a pulsing bassline, percussion reduced to basically just the kick, and stark piano driving things along. Danceable, yes, but without breaking a sweat. Listen or watch the video below and there are some pretty cool remixes (by In Flagranti, Vito & Druzzi and others) to check out as well. You can also check out the mellower-still "Midnight Fever" featuring Owlle, plus a couple video from his first two albums, below.
Colder has also brought his skill set to the "3:21 AM Remix" of Kasper Bjørke's "Marbled Blood" that features spoken word vocals from Soho Rezanejad. The original, from Bjørke's 2014 album After Forever, is dreamy and widescreen and Colder takes it more onto the dancefloor, in his own crystalline way. The remix premieres in this post and you can stream or download it below.
Colder offer up another take on "Marbled Blood" that's part of Bjørke's remix album After Forever Revisited that also features takes by Michael Mayer, Superpitcher, Matt Karmil, Hotel Lauer and more. You can stream the whole thing, and the original album, below. Kasper Bjørke will be in the States later this month, and he'll be DJing at Brooklyn club Output's Panther Room on September 25 with Sexy Lazer. Tickets are on sale now. The next night (9/26) Bjørke and Sexy Lazer will be DJing in Miami.
Lots of things to stream and watch, below...
The 14th edition of Mutek, Montreal's annual "international festival of digital creativ and electronic music," will happen May 29 - June 2. The festival has released the initial line-up of performers, including Matthew Herbert, Andy Stott, Jamie Lidell, John Talabot, Martyn, Onra and more. Mutek Passports (good for the whole fest) and Weekend Passes (good for 5/31 - 6/2) are on sale now.
Matthew Herbert will have a very busy 2013. In addition to a new album, End of Silence, which was constructed from just one sound, he's got a 130 track compilation titled Herbert Complete which collects his house-oriented productions. That digital-only comp will be out in March and his new album a month later. He's also working with the England's Royal Opera House to create a work based on Faust that will premiere in 2014.
More info on Mutek 2013 is here and initial line-up is below.

Simian Mobile Disco at PS1 in 2011 (more by Erez Avissar)
Simian Mobile Disco released their new LP, Unpatterns, this week via Wichita Recordings. It's a bit of a return to form to their dancefloor-ready debut, Attack, Decay, Sustain Release, rather than the in your face electropop of 2009's Temporary Pleasure. Not as many guest vocalists on the new album, and when they do appear on Unpatterns, they're backgrounded and sparse, like Jamie Lidell's contribution to "Put Your Hands Together." Check out a stream of the entire album below.
Simian Mobile Disco are continuing to tour in support of the album, and will come to NYC this month to DJ Webster Hall on May 25 with DJ sets by Michael Mayer, Lindstrom, FIXED DJs JDH & Dave P< and Alex English & Rekles. Tickets for this show are on sale now. The flier for this show is below.
Simian Mobile Disco will return to NY for Camp Bisco which goes down in Mariaville, NY from July 12-14. Other artists playing include Amon Tobin, Big Boi, Tycho, Thundercat, Shigeto, Daedelus, Skrillex, Star Slinger, Crystal Castles, and more. Tickets for the fest are on sale.
Speaking of Lindstrom, his most recent album, Six Cups of Rebel was released earlier this year. You can stream that entire album below and download the track, "De Javu," at the top of this post.
And speaking of FIXED, their Kindness-headlined show at Le Poisson Rouge is TONIGHT (5/17). It's the NYC live debut for Kindness, whose solid debut LP, Word, You Need a Change of Mind, was released this year. Tickets for tonight's show are still available.
Album streams, show flier and a list of all dates are below.
