Phoenix / YYYs / the scene @ Outside Lands, 8/10/2013
As things got dark, so did the music: Phoenix lit up the Twin Peaks Stage with their chartbusting electro-pop that was inescapable from 2009-2010. On the main stage, Trent Reznor came out all shrouded in chiaroscuro for a tense set of industrial metal that has somehow remained ageless since the mid-90s. Flashes of bright white bounced off set pieces and Reznor was looking more ripped and angry than ever in a sleeveless pocket hoodie, ready to devour the microphone whole. But unlike McCartney's set on Friday night, from which we were unable to pull ourselves away, the smart kids knew to hit the buses early and make a breezy exit back towards downtown or BART or Divisadero bars - [SFist]The sixth annual Outside Lands Music Festival happened last weekend at San Francisco's gorgeous Golden Gate Park. The second day (Saturday, 8/10) featured anticipated headlining sets from Nine Inch Nails and Phoenix, both making their way around the festival circuit this summer. Saturday's performers also included Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Jurrasic 5, The Head & the Heart, The Growlers, Gary Clark Jr. and more. Pictures from those artists and more are in this post.
\Like at Lollapalooza and Firefly, and like we'll be doing again at Bumbershoot, BrooklynVegan was set up each day of Outside Lands in the Soundwave tent where our hosts Christen Thomas and Dave Hill DJ'd, told jokes and interviewed and hosted bands that were playing the fest.
Pictures from Outside Lands Day 1 are HERE and Day 3 are on the way. More from Day 2 below...

LA's Milo Greene (a 5-piece band, not a person) released their debut self titled LP last week (7/17) on Atlantic imprint Chop Shop Records which is run by Alexandra Patsavas (music supervisor to Gossip Girl, Grey's Anatomy, and the Twilight Films). They're definitely of the Mumford and Sons/mindie folk variety, though less rootsy and a bit like a sober Arcade Fire. You can stream three tracks from the album below, along with the cover art and tracklist.
Milo Greene are on the road supporting the record, and they'll play a sold show in NYC at Mercury Lounge tonight (7/26) with Family of the Year. If you missed out on getting tickets to that show, don't fret. They'll be back in NYC for a show on October 25 at Bowery Ballroom with Lucius. Tickets for that show are on AmEx presale now and go on sale to the general public on Friday (7/27) at noon.
A list of all dates, streams, cover art and tracklist are below.

Lollapalooza (more by Grant MacAllister)
Chicago Sun Times reports:
Lollapalooza has revealed its official 2012 list of performers -- a typically wide-ranging smorgasbord of genres and styles topped by nearly a dozen mainstage headliners: the Red Hot Chili Peppers, freshly reunited bands Black Sabbath and At the Drive-In, the Black Keys, Jack White, Florence + The Machine, the Shins and Passion Pit, plus spotlighted electronic music including Swedish house titan Avicii, French dance duo Justice and DJ-producer Bassnectar.Check out the full list below...
The annual music festival is scheduled for Aug. 3-5 in Chicago's Grant Park.
Rumored lineups have circulated widely, as they usually do, and Lollapalooza itself stoked the speculation in recent weeks via a series of CTA and online advertisements that seemed to hint at who would be playing.
The ads featured lyrics from such acts as Sigur Ros, Santigold, Jack White, Kimbra, Twin Shadow, the Weeknd, Bloc Party and more -- all bands that wound up on the bill.
