"Saw Gotye last night! Radio City Music hall! What a show. Definitely an underrated band and album. Go Gotye. . .Go." - John Siravo

Gotye @ Radio City
Gotye

Australian singer Gotye brought his North American tour to Radio City on Tuesday night (9/25) with fellow Aussies Missy Higgins and Jonti, for what was Gotye's first of two NYC shows. The second NYC show on his tour is TONIGHT (9/27) at Williamsburg Park with Zammuto and GIVERS. Tickets for tonight's show are still available.

After her opening set at Tuesday night's show, Missy Higgins joined Gotye on stage to sing the duet vocals on "Somebody That I Used to Know," which are performed by Kimbra on the album. Not too surprisingly, that was the only song that the crowd lost their shit during, but Gotye remained intent on delivering a fully worked out set, not focused solely on that one song (and for the record, he didn't even end with it). Gotye and his four-piece backing band had various arrangements worked out for each song in the set, which included almost the entirety of Making Mirrors in addition to material off of his two previous full lengths, which still have not been released in the US. And to complement their sound, the band was backed by large screen animated videos.

Missy Higgins plays The Bell House on Friday (9/28) with Butterfly Boucher and tickets are still available.

More pictures, videos, and the setlist from Radio City are below.

Kimbra at Webster Hall - 3/27/12
Kimbra

Australian artist Kimbra, best known in America for singing on Goe's single that just keeps going "Somebody That I Used to Know," is definitely becoming known for her own music now too. She's currently on tour with Foster the People and Tokyo Police Club, which hits Summerstage tonight in NYC, and has just announced a headlining fall tour that will hit Webster Hall on October 20 with openers The Stepkids. Tickets go on sale Friday June 15 at noon with an Amex presale beginning Wed (6/13) at noon. All listed tour dates are at the bottom of this post.

If you haven't checked out Kimbra's album, Vows, from last year, it's streaming below. We've also got a belated set of pics of Kimbra when she opened for Gotye at Webster Hall in March.

While we're in the general Gotye-verse, fellow Aussie Missy Higgins will open for Gotye on his fall tour, including Radio City Music Hall on September 25 (tickets). Before that, Missy will play Le Poisson Rouge on July 17 and tickets for that show are on sale now. The LPR show is a record release party for her new album, The Ol' Razzle Dazzle, which will be released in the U.S. same day as that show. She veers a little more pop than Kimbra as you can hear if you stream a few songs from the album at the bottom of this post. We've also got the video for album standout "Unashamed Desire" below as well.

The Radio City show is also with another Australian artist, Jonti whose sample-heavy music is definitely worth checking out. You can stream both last year's Twirligig and this year's demo collection Sine & Moon (both released on Stone's Throw) below.

Meanwhile, as mentioned, Zammuto opens Gotye's Williamsburg Park show (9/27) (tickets) and since we last spoke, GIVERS were added to that bill as well.

Lists of all dates, videos, streams, and more pics from Webster Hall below...

Nick Zammuto at Ecstatic Music Fest (more by David Andrako)
Zammuto

Zammuto (the project of Nick Zammuto of The Books) will hit the road with Explosions in the Sky next month, and after taking a break, they'll head out again, this time acting as a support act for a portion of Gotye's just-announced tour. That portion includes the Brooklyn show at Williamsburg Park on September 27. Zammuto won't open the Radio City show on September 25 though (but Missy Higgins and Jonti will). Tickets for the Williamsburg Park show with Zammuto go on sale Friday, June 8 at 10 AM.

Zammuto released his self titled LP last month. You can stream that in full below, along with a live rehearsal video for "The Shape of Things to Come" and a list of all dates...

Lilipad

Bob Lefsetz writes...

Seeing the decline in recorded music revenues, ticket prices soared. We can blame Live Nation, but let's first and foremost blame the acts. Who not only priced tickets exorbitantly, but scalped their own tickets. They were greedy.

What's the end result?

The club business has been devastated. Live music is about the special event, one doesn't go regularly. It's about paying top buck for a name brand. Take a chance? At these prices!

And now we've got Sarah McLachlan admitting that Lilith Fair tickets are "pretty soft" (the story is everywhere, but it originated on "Billboard": Sarah McLachlan says Lilith sales "pretty soft")

What Sarah says seems reasonable, that only 300 seats or so out of 16,000 are $250, and that there are 9,000 that are $25, until you click through and try to buy some.

At the local L.A. date at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre/Irvine Meadows, the first Ticketmaster choice is:

'Lilith Universe' - Diamond Package

The price? $750 a ticket.

Then we've got:

'Lilith Spirit' - Gold Spirit

The price is: $450 a ticket.

Then there's 'Lilith Spirit' - Silver Package. Prices there are $300 a ticket.

And then, fourth choice down, we come to "NEW FULL PRICE TICKET". Where the options are: $252, $101, $71.50, $41.50 and $31.50.

But it gets even worse. After that, there's a line for "Citi Cardmember Preferred Tickets". And then, at the very bottom, we've got "Lawn 4 Pack Offer". Those are only $14.25 apiece, but after service charges, aren't you just better off buying the ultimate DVD, which you can watch again and again in the privacy of your own home. up close and personal?

In other words, first and foremost, we've got a perception problem. No matter how many super-expensive seats there are, perception is you just can't get a good one unless you pay up, demoralizing potential attendees.

Furthermore, no one on the bill is "hot". There's no GaGa that makes people NEED to go. [Bob Lefsetz]

Lilith Fair 2010, back from a 10+ year hiatus, kicks off June 27th and runs into August. The maxi pad-sponsored tour comes to the NYC area for a July 31st show at PNC Bank Arts Center. Acts at that date include Cat Power, Chairlift, Carly Simon, Sarah McLachlan, Selena Gomez, Missy Higgins, Jill Hennessy, Indigo Girls, Sara Bareilles, Priscilla Renea and a "special guest" (other acts not playing NJ include Loretta Lynn, Metric, Gossip, Beth Orton, La Roux Erykah Badu and Tegan and Sara). Tickets are currently on sale with "no service fee."

The tour recently canceled its July 8th stop in Arizona for undisclosed reasons, but there's speculation that it's in protest of the state's controversial new immigration law.

"The GoGo's are encouraging Lilith to move this date to another state in protest of the new immigration law. We are NOT supporting the state government," [GoGo's Belinda Carlisle] wrote on her Facebook account a few weeks ago. "I don't mix business and politics but I'm afraid I have to this time."

Carlisle eventually deleted the post, but The Go-Go's released a press statement last week informing fans the show was cancelled and tickets could be refunded. But they also said the band had not been told why the show was cancelled. [ChartAttack]
