If only they had jetpacks...
We Were Promised Jetpacks

A trio of Scottish bands, We Were Promised Jetpacks, The Twilight Sad and Frightened Rabbit, are touring parts of North America this September -- they'll stick to the West Coast and the South, starting out at Monolith Festival in Colorado on September 12th and 13th.

For the tour's second leg, Frightened Rabbit drops off, and Jetpacks and The Twilight Sad will be joined by Brakesbrakesbrakes (featuring Eamon Hamilton of British Sea Power). The dates and cities for that section are still TBA, but there will be a stop at NYC's Bowery Ballroom on Tuesday, October 6th. Tickets go on sale Friday, July 10th at noon.

Besides being from Scotland, all of the above-mentioned bands (even Brakes, but they are from England) are on Fat Cat Records. Jetpacks' debut, These Four Walls, is out now (July 7th) on the label. That album's "Quiet Little Voices" is posted above. The video for the same song is below.

The Twilight Sad's Forget the Night Ahead (their follow up to Fourteen Autumns & Fifteen Winters) will be out September 22nd on Fat Cat. "Reflection of the Television" from the new record is posted above. The full track list is below. The Twilight Sad just visited NYC on their spring tour with Mogwai, which included three nights at the Music Hall of Williamsburg.

Frightened Rabbit won't be at that October 6th Bowery show, but they will be in NYC a bit earlier for their appearance at Siren Festival on July 18th. The night before the band plays a show at Maxwell's, which will be the first of two final Oxford Collapse gigs. Those shows are all part of the Frightened Rabbit's July tour.

All tour dates, and the above-mentioned stuff, below...

Roadside Graves

The Roadside Graves. Like The Band before them, the New Jersey group pull from several different genres - country, folk, Cajun, southern gospel, and big-time rock 'n' roll - to produce something that can maybe only be called American Music. Taking a cue from fellow Jerseyite (and part-time folkie himself) Bruce Springsteen, the Graves build their songs layer by layer, adding stinging guitar lines over strummed acoustics and boozy horns with barreling piano runs until the entire seven-piece band is dancing a country waltz in perfect step...[says Aquarium Drunkard whose record label Autumn Tone Records...]
...released the band's third album, My Son's Home, on June 9th . Its CD release party is tonight (June 26th) at Pianos, where Roadside Graves will be joined by The Loom, Gunfight! and Blair. Tickets are still on sale.

Two tracks from that record, "Far and Wide" and "Ruby," are posted above.

The band, more or less NYC locals, has several upcoming NYC/Brooklyn/Jersey City shows planned. They'll also be at the Monolith Festival in Colorado this September. Tracklist, album art, and tour dates below...

Passion Pit @ Sasquatch 09 (more by Chris Graham)
Passion Pit

American-Statesman: You've been selling out shows across the country. Why do you think people are so excited to see you?
Adhamy: People tell them to be excited. We have a really awesome publicist. It's a word of mouth or word of Internet thing. It's nothing we're doing.
Donmoyer: ... It's our first tour through a lot of these towns so it's still a litmus test, an 'are these guys worth our time?' kind of thing. It'll be a few more tours before they're actually here to see us.
Adhamy: We met these two girls yesterday in Dallas that said they were doing a Passion Pit Texas tour, coming to all three shows (Dallas, Austin and Houston). I'm really humbled by that.
Donmoyer: They don't have jobs, so they can follow us around.
PhoenixPhoenix and Passion Pit have announced one of at least two shows they're playing together in September, and that is Friday, September 25th at Rumsey Playfield aka Central Park Summerstage. Tickets for the NYC show are on AmEx presale NOW, and go on regular sale Friday at noon. The other show the bands share on their schedule is the Monolith Festival happening earlier that month (September 12-13) at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, CO.

This is the third upcoming NYC show for both bands. Phoenix play Music Hall of Williamsburg and Terminal 5 this month. Passion Pit, who recently played a boat, has two shows at Bowery Ballroom. All four of those upcoming shows are sold out. All currently known dates below...

Bumbershoot in Seattle on September 5th-7th. Three-day passes are on sale now.

There are more confirmed festivals, but I think that's enough for this post. In the unconfirmed department, Woodstock '09 is currently shoping for a venue.
