Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails on 11/4/2013
Nine Inch Nails tape for Austin City Limits on 11/4/2013

From very early in the set Mr. Reznor said that he didn't want to bring a Nine Inch Nails show to Austin City Limits. He wanted the band to be a bit out of their comfort zone. He also remarked how it was very strange for him to be able to see himself since he is so used to being shrouded by the lights rather than illuminated by them.

As performers, Nine Inch Nails are damned-near flawless. With more than twenty years of experience they brought an unparalleled intensity to the stage. These are musicians who are used to headlining festivals and playing sold-out arena tours and they brought all of that volume and intensity to an intimate theater space. With a set that lasted an hour and forty-five minutes without a break, Mr. Reznor sweat clear through his all-black attire, which included a pair of dropped-crotch pants.
[Austin Bloggy Limits]

Announced just a week earlier, Nine Inch Nails taped an episode of ACL TV at the Moody Theater in Austin Monday night (11/4). As always, the taping included a lucky studio audience that was at least partially made up of those who gained entry via ACL's lottery system. We've got pictures and the setlist, some of which will make it into the shorter version of the show that airs on TV.

Nine Inch Nails played Voodoo Fest over the weekend and continue their tour in Texas in San Antonio tonight (11/5). Texas band Explosions in the Sky are also now the opener through 11/22 in Seattle. We caught NIN earlier on the tour at Barclays Center in Brooklyn with Godspeed You! Black Emperor who were the opener of the earlier leg. Brand new dates on NIN's future itinerary include Lollapalooza Brazil and Argentina in 2014 (they played Lollapalooza Chicago in 2013).

More pictures and the setlist from Austin City Limits (the TV show) along with tour dates, below...

Fela's two most successful Afrobeat-playing sons are Femi and Seun. Seun even now leads Fela's old band Egypt 80. As you might have noticed in this summer's Celebrate Brooklyn lineup, Seun has a show (shows) coming up too. The free Brooklyn one happening at the Prospect Park Bandshell is listed like this:

FRIDAY, JULY 22, 7:00 P.M.
SEUN KUTI & EGYPT 80 | FAAJI AGBA

The yearlong celebration of Nigeria's 50th anniversary of independence that began last October continues here with a generation-bridging concert. Fronting his father Fela's legendary band, Seun Kuti is the living embodiment of afro-pop. Faaji Agba's lineup of Afrobeat pioneers--including Fatai Rolling Dollar, Chief Seni Tejuoso and Prince 'Eji' Oyewole of the Afro-Skittles Band--makes them Nigeria's answer to the Buena Vista Social Club: a supergroup of veteran musicians who are re-popularizing faaji grooves, agidigbo blues, juju and other styles of Nigerian roots. Travel support provided by Arik Air.

Seun's new album "From Africa With Fury" is out now in Europe, but will be released in the U.S. on June 21st. It looks like this:

Seun

A full Seun North American tour will be announced soon, but in the meantime, all known Seun & Femi dates, and more Femi pics, below...
