The Cave Singers at Bonnaroo 2012 (more by Dana (distortion) Yavin)
The members of Seattle folk rockers The Cave Singers got their start in harder-edged bands (most notably, bassist Derek Fudesco played in Pretty Girls Make Graves and Murder City Devils), and they've recently added ex-Blood Brothers member Morgan Henderson (who also plays in Fleet Foxes now). This wasn't too apparent on the group's first three albums, but on "Have to Pretend," the first single off of their upcoming fourth album, Naomi (due out March 5 via Jagjaguwar), those roots are starting to peak through.
On the track, singer Peter Quirk snarls over overdriven electric guitar stabs that sound more alt-rock than rustic folk. The record was produced by Phil Ek (Fleet Foxes, The Shins, Band of Horses), who Derek previously worked with on Pretty Girls Make Graves' 2002 album, Good Health. A stream of the new single, and the Naomi album art and tracklist are below.
The Cave Singers will be supporting the new record with a tour which hits NYC on April 6 at Music Hall of Williamsburg. Tickets for that show go on sale Friday (2/1) at noon.
