During their performance at Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin on Saturday (11/8), Tony Foresta announced that lame bands like Atreyu and Yelloward were doing the wall of death at their shows and therefore this would be Municipal Waste's last. The crowd was essentially challenged to make it extra special, and this is how it came out...

War is beautiful...... Torche (more by Jason Bergman)

Torche have teamed up with labelmates (and former tourmates) Clouds, for a string of freshly minted US tour dates with Coliseum and Black Cobra providing support. Torche is also currently gearing up for a European tour with another set of labelmates, Pelican, which concludes on October 11th. The first date on the Torche / Clouds tour is October 24th with Coliseum. CMJ is October 21st - 25th. Will we see Torche, Clouds or Coliseum at CMJ? No word yet (natch), but when we know, so will you. Full tour dates below.
Speaking of Pelican, the boys have issued a rather thorough update in which they detail their loooong awaited split with These Arms Are Snakes (due on Hydrahead, limited quantities), a split 7" with Young Widows (due in 2009), a collaborative split 7" with Suicide Note, and a Fire In Their Throats.... 2LP release in Viva Hate Records. But the band also dropped more interesting news..... including the fact that the band will tour the east coast in the fall, have a video for "Lost in the Headlights" in the works, and are working on their follow up to City Of Echoes. More details to come. Speaking of These Arms Are Snakes, the band recently posted "Red Line Season" to their myspace for streaming.
Coffins have contributed two songs, one new and another a cover of "The Day Man Lost" by swedish death metallers Carnage, to a split 7" with sludgy-grind enthusiasts Skullhog. Pick it up NOW at No Escape, it's limited to 500 copies (200 on red wax). Coffins also have the following releases lined up: the Warhead 7" EP (on Torture Garden); Split 7" EPs with Womb (on Necroharmonic), Lobotomized (on Plague Island), and Spun In Darkness (Battle Kommand); Split 12" LPs with The Arm And Sword Of A Bastard God (the vinyl release on Enucleation, originally on CD via 20 Buck Spin), Anatomia & Grudge (the three-way split vinyl release on Enucleation, originally dropped on Grindmind), and XXX Maniak (the vinyl release on Haunted Hotel, originally released on CD via Creeping Vine); a Singles collection from 2004-2008 (on Living Dead Society); a mini album (on Bones Brigade); a track on the Death Metal Power Compilation Vol.1 (on Final Punishment).
Engineer is currently working on their follow up to The Dregs, and have "close to five songs completed". Look for the band to line up a few new shows in the coming months.
Sigh drops their new record, A Tribute to Venom, on limited edition etched vinyl with CD via The End Records on Sept 2nd. A Tribute To Venom is just that, a set of Venom covers reimagined in way that only Sigh could. Agalloch

Folkin' black proggers Agalloch has announced that they are at work on their fourth LP, the follow-up the the critically acclaimed Ashes Against The Grain! The band recently parted ways with The End and "have received several offers ranging from the ridiculous to the very interesting" with respect to a new home, but no decision is expected until 2009. Meanwhile, Agalloch also announced the release of The Demonstration Archive, a retrospective of songs from 1996 - 1998 before they signed to the label. For more info on The Demonstration Archive, including how to pick it up, head here.
As we announced a couple weeks ago, doomy instrumental trio Capricorns have released River Bear Your Bones in jolly old England, but the US will see the record on September 30th. Have no fear, as we have posted 25% of the whole record (above) for you to download!
Intronaut's new record, Prehistoricisms, is up for preorder, with or without a limited edition tee ($4 more). Check out "The Literal Black Cloud" from Prehistoricisms here.
Black Anvil

World, Black Anvil. Black Anvil, world. I wish it was that easy, because word needs to get out on these grim lords constructed from ex-members of Kill Your Idols. Drawing from early black metal and thrash and with only an occasional foray into Emperor-style tremolo picking, their new LP Time Insults The Mind is an unholy creature of shadow. Check out "Ten Talons Deep" available for download above and the video of the band tearing through "Deathsomnia" (also from Time...). and pick up the record at Momentum Records when it drops. The band is also playing Traxx in Ronkonkoma on August 23rd and The Charleston on Sept 30th.

AT THE F'n GATES Live @ Irving Plaza July 9 (zenametalz)
Night one has passed in..... ah, f it....let's just call it Metal Appreciation Week here in NYC. At The Gates / Darkest Hour / Municipal Waste / Toxic Holocaust opened up the festivities and by many accounts, to borrow from Parliament-Funkadelic, "tore the roof of the sucker". We have video and the setlist below, along with the latest Municipal Waste video, "Sadistic Magician".
They demonize Irving Plaza (the Fillmore) once again tonight (July 10, 2008), but with a little friendly competition. Fangsanalsatan (aka Atsuo) and his band Boris, along with the mighty Torche, & Cave-In-er Adam McGrath's Clouds (who recently dropped the lovely We Are Above You) are playing Webster Hall.
Metal Appreciation Week then continues with Jucifer for FREE on Friday, Monstrosity/Sourvein/Demiricous/Javelina on Monday, Architect on Monday, and Jucifer/Bloody Panda on Tuesday.
Videos and setlist below...

More catching up.... That early-afternoon show back on March 15th had the perfect back-to-back UK indie lineup....
March 15, 2008As pointed out in the Lightspeed Champion (Dev) interview, Emmy the Great contributed to Lightspeed's album, so it was cool to see her sing with him live. PLUS, it was a total surprise to see NYC's own Jackson Pollis walk up with Dev and then play drums on a couple of songs with them too (video and more pics below).
12:00: Emmy The Great
12:50: Noah And The Whale w/ Laura Marling
1:40: Laura Marling w/ members of Noah and the Whale
2:20: Lightspeed Champion w/ Emmy the Great (and Jackson)
Lightspeed Champion returns to North America in June to play some shows. First there are two with Adam Green (who Laura Marling played with this past Saturday night), and then there's a tour with Flowers Forever - the Team Love-signed side project of Derek from Tilly & The Wall. Tickets are still on sale for a June 7th show at Bowery Ballroom, and for a show at Maxwell's two days before that (both of those shows are with Flowers Forever). All dates, the SXSW video and more pics, below.....
