North Carolina rapper Rapsody, who had a major guest verse on Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp A Butterfly and also put out her own great album Beauty and the Beast, is the first artist to do an NPR Tiny Desk Concert in 2016. She played backed by a full band (9th Wonder included), and did "Godzilla," "The Man," and "Hard To Choose" (all off Beauty and the Beast). At times she looks like she's having a ton of fun, and at others she's giving no-bullshit impassioned performances. And if you liked the jazz/soul/funk backing of TPAB, you'll love her band too. Watch below.
Rapsody also appears on Murs & 9th Wonder's collaborative album Brighter Daze, that dropped on New Year's Day. You can stream that below too, and download it (name your price) at bandcamp. The brand-new video for "Otha Fish" off the album is below too.
She doesn't have a full tour coming up, but she has a Denver show with Talib Kweli, Pharoahe Monch, and 9th Wonder. That's part of Talib's tour, which also includes nine NYC shows:
One is a "musical celebration of the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr." on January 17 at SOB's with K'Valentine, Chaz Van Queen, Yummy Bingham, MK Asante and special guests (tickets). He also has a Blue Note residency, happening February 3 & 4 and March 2 & 3, with two shows a night (tickets). And he'll be one of the guests at The Soul Rebels' shows on February 26 & 27 at Brooklyn Bowl (tickets).
Talib & 9th Wonder just dropped a new video for "These Waters" off 2015's Indie 500 (which Rapsody is also featured on). Watch that, with his list of tour dates, below...

Plenty of great hip hop shows in NYC are getting announced all the time. We don't get a chance to write about all of them, so here's a roundup of some recently-announced stuff coming up:
Blog-hyped rapper Father plays SOB's on Monday (7/13) with KeithCharles Spacebar, Slug Christ and Playboi Carti. Tickets are on sale now. His latest release is this year's Who's Gonna Get Fucked First?, but he just made a video for "Cheap Thrills" off last year's Boys & Girls Club EP. You can watch it below.
Remember G-Unit? Lloyd Banks is playing BB King's on August 2 with Kyra Kane and Tay Best. Tickets are on sale now.
You may not hear about them as much these days (their last album was 2006), but former Brooklyn staples Lordz of Brooklyn are playing a NYC show with the great newer Queens rapper Meyhem Lauren and The Wilding Incident (featuring Sacha Jenkins of The White Mandingos). That show happens August 1 at Gramercy Theatre. Tickets are on sale.
Speaking of, White Mandingos member Murs returned this year with a new LP, Have A Nice Life. He'll come to NYC in support of it on November 7 at The Studio at Webster Hall with Red Pill and King Fantastic. Tickets are on sale. Watch the video for "No More Control" (featuring MNDR) from that album, below.
The OG-est of the OGs, Sugarhill Gang play Kings Theatre on August 15 with freestyle/dance musician Stevie B and disco singer Noel. Tickets are on sale.
The Underachievers recently announced their new album, Evermore - The Art of Duality, and today they released its lead single "Take Your Place." Listen below. Their tour with Pouya & the Buffet Boys, Kirk Knight and Bodega Bamz hits Webster Hall on October 24. Tickets are on sale now.

Tech N9ne, Krizz Kaliko, Chris Webby, Murs, King 810 and Zuse are playing Irving Plaza on May 23. Tickets for that show go on sale today at 10AM. UPDATE: They also play SOB's on April 2. Tickets are on sale.

CunninLynguists' new album art (not Smash Mouth's)
Kentucky rap crew CunninLynguists followed 2011's Oneirology LP earlier this year with a new mixtape. It's the third in their Strange Journey mixtape series, and thus titled Strange Journey Volume Three. It's got a handful of great guests including Del The Funy Homosapien, Aesop Rock, Murs, Blu, Psalm One and Masta Ace. This fall, they'll be heading out on tour in support of the release with J-Live (who's also on the mixtape), stopping in NYC to play The Studio at Webster Hall on November 13. Tickets for that show are on sale now.
All tour dates are listed, with a stream of Strange Journey Volume Three, below...
Happy 10th anniversary to Rock the Bells, who have announced their initial, rotating 2013 lineup featuring hosts Peter Rosenberg & MURS 3:16, as well as names like Bone Thugs N Harmony, Danny Brown, Black Hippy (who just played NYC), Common, E40 & Too Short, Earl Sweatshirt (ditto), Flatbush Zombies, Juicy J (who played a Fader show on Monday and Irving Plaza last night), Rakim, Wu-Tang Clan (who play Summer Jam soon), Tyler the Creator (who just announced an NYC show as part of Odd Future), Eazy E, Ol Dirty Bastard and more. Confused? Yes, I did just say Eazy E and Ol Dirty Bastard, both of which will be "virtual performances" as part of the travelling festival. AllHipHop reports:
Ol Dirty Bastard and Eazy-E's spirits will return to the stage at Rock The Bells this year, AllHipHop has learned. So far only four dates exist for Rock the Bells. They're all listed below. Two of them are on the East Coast and one is in the NYC area at Meadowlands Racetrack in Rutherford, NJ on October 4-5. Tickets go on presale Thursday (10/16) at noon, and regular sale on Saturday.
The pair of Hip-Hop legends will have holograms performing this year at the 10-year anniversary of the rap festival.
Eazy-E will perform virtually with Bone Thugs-In-Harmony and ODB will rock with Wu Tang. Organizers said Eazy never blessed the Rock The Bells stage and ODB only did once.
Also, the "holograms" are approved by Eazy-E's wife Tomica Wright and Ol Dirty's mother, Cherry Jones.
Tupac's Coachella appearance inspired the new virtual performances at Rock The Bells, organizers admitted.
Initial lineup (at least 15 more artists TBA), dates and some video below.
Veteran Def Jux/Rhymesayers rapper Murs and the fresh faced Fashawn teamed up earlier this year for a collaborative album, This Generation, which was produced by Beatnick and K-Salaam and released via Duck Down Music. That's the cover art above and you can stream the entire thing below via spotify. Also below is the video for album single, "Slash Gordan."
Murs and Fashawn are supporting the album with a tour together in 2013, which they're also taking Prof on. That tour hits NYC on February 22 at Knitting Factory. Tickets for that show are on sale now.
A list of all dates, video, and album stream below...

NYC rapper Sean Price released his new album, Mic Tyson, on October 30 via Duck Down Records and was supposed to play a hometown record release show that day at SOB's, but Hurricane Sandy had other plans and the show never happened. Still no word on a new date for that show (or if there'll be one) but he'll play a different NYC show with fellow Duck Down labelmates/affiliates Buckshot, 9th Wonder, and Murs at Santos Party House on November 13 with opening sets from Young Guru and DJ Meka (2dopeboyz). Tickets for that show are on sale now. The flyer is below.
November 13 is also the day that 9th Wonder will release two collaborative albums: The Final Adventure with Murs via It's A Wonderful World/Traffic Entertainment/KGMG and The Solution with Buckshot via Duck Down. The cover art, tracklists, and song streams from both albums are below.
Both 9th Wonder and Buckshot contributed to Sean Price's Mic Tyson, as did The Alchemist, whose upcoming album with Action Bronson features Sean Price. Hardcore hip hop has been enjoying somewhat of a resurgence this year with great albums getting the attention they deserve (Killer Mike, Freddie Gibbs, etc) and Mic Tyson fits right in with that. You can stream it in its entirety below via spotify.
All streams, a list of all dates, and more are below.

Cypress Hill @ House of Blues - Sunset Strip - 5/24/2011
The line-up for the ROCK THE BELLS 2011 FESTIVAL SERIES--presented by Boost Mobile in association with GUERILLA UNION and powered by BlackBerry--will feature an array of seminal and up-and-coming hip-hop artists on three stages. Headliners include Ms. Lauryn Hill, Nas,Erykah Baduand Cypress Hill. See the current line-up below and look for more performers to be announced soon. The Guerilla Union pre-sale for the ROCK THE BELLS 2011 FESTIVAL SERIES will go from June 3 at 10am PST - 10pm PST. The general on-sale starts on June 4.
This year's festival will head to four major North American markets. Kicking off in the Los Angeles-area on August 20 at the San Manuel Amphitheater, ROCK THE BELLS will then head to San Francisco on August 27 at Shoreline Amphitheatre. The festival moves to the east coast for a show in New York on September 3 at Governor's Island (co-promoted with Bowery Presents, Highline, Mad Dog Presents) before wrapping in [a TBA venue in] Boston on September 10.
ROCK THE BELLS featured a number of headliners performing their most influential albums in their entirety for the first time in the history of hip-hop entertainment last summer. The tradition continues this year with Ms. Lauryn Hill performing her landmark, multi-platinum selling, multi-GRAMMY winning album The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill and Nas performing his breakthrough debut album Illmatic with special guests AZ, Pete Rock and DJ Premier. Nas says about performing Illmatic this summer, "For years people have been asking me to do Illmatic in so many ways, from stage plays to movies to books, but the time wasn't right. Where music is going now, the time is right. This will be my biggest production and it only makes sense to do it on the best rap tour which also happens to be a brand I've built and am a partner in. Can't wait to kill it with my comrades AZ, Premo & Pete Rock!"
Full album sets can also be expected from: Cypress Hill performing their 1993 multi-platinum album Black Sunday, featuring modern rock radio mainstay "Insane In The Membrane"; Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star performing their 1998 self-titled debut album; Raekwon & Ghostface teaming up for critically acclaimed, platinum selling Only Built 4 Cuban Linx and more.
"I am excited that this year's Rock The Bells will continue its rich history and tradition by presenting the best and most ambitious festival programming in Hip Hop," says festival co-founder and Guerilla Union head Chang Weisberg. "The bar has been set high and this year's line-up will certainly stake its claim. With ten of the biggest records in the history of the genre and the freshest new talent bubbling from the underground, this summer's Rock The Bells is another dream come true."
ROCK THE BELLS will feature three main stages this year. The two returning stages are the ROCK THE BELLS STAGE and the PAID DUES STAGE, which will feature independent hip-hop acts that performed at the Paid Dues Festival this past April in San Bernardino and new artists-on-the-rise. Paid Dues Festival creator Murs says, "I am excited that I once again have the privilege of hosting the Paid Dues Stage. We will have the honor of showcasing some of the best talent in independent hip hop as part of the worlds largest and longest running hip hop festival... the Paid Dues stage is gonna be the one to watch this year."
The 36 CHAMBERS STAGE is a new addition to the festival and will primarily feature members of the Wu-Tang Clan as well as artists selected by stage curator and Wu-Tang Clan mainstay RZA. A fourth stage that will also be added to most markets is the GRINDTIME NOW STAGE, which will feature battle-style performances.
The lineup was announced last night at a show at House of Blues in LA. Mobb Deep, Souls of Mischief and Cypress Hill all played and pictures to prove it are in this post. More of them below.
The full lineup is also below...
2/3 of Hail Mary Mallon (Rob Sonic and Aesop Rock)
Aesop Rock will head out on tour in May with Rob Sonic & DJ Big Wiz, and though they are billed separately, it means we're getting Hail Mary Mallon aka the crew formed by the trio. The NYC show will happen at Bowery Ballroom on 5/14. Tickets go on sale at noon on Thursday (3/3). All dates and the video for HMM's "D-Up" are below.
Hail Mary Mallon is one of a few active projects for Aesop Rock. He also wrote beats for the San Francisco band Dirty Ghosts (his wife Alyson is a member). Dirty Ghosts, who played their first show last week, will kick of a string of dates with Datarock next week on the West Coast leading up to an appearance at SXSW. Check out a video for "Shout It In" below.
In addition, Aesop Rock has contributed material to the forthcoming Kimya Dawson LP, Thunder Thighs due this summer. Check out "Miami Advice" with Aesop Rock at K Records. Other contributors to Kimya's new album include Nicolai Fraiture, John Darnielle, Thao Nguyen, MURS, Jonah Matranga, Jack Dishel, Angelo Spencer and many other who are all listed below.
All tour dates and some video with the credits for Kimya's Thunder Thighs, below....
Barney is not a member of Melrose
MURS will play Music Hall of Williamsburg on March 12th, one of a few dates laid out for the great MC as part of a trip to the Northeast before he hits SXSW. Tickets for the Brooklyn show go on sale Thursday (1/13) at noon. All dates below.
MURS' last release was the collaborative Fornever, which saw him reteaming with 9th Wonder and dropped in April of last year. His latest project is with Terrace Martin as Melrose, which will see release via a new LP on Feb 8th. Look for it at his website, and check out a video trailer for the project below.
MURS also has another release in Varsity Blues 2. The Aesop-Rock-produced title track can be downloaded now for the price of your email.
All tour dates, that Melrose vid, and a MURS cover of the Common classic "I Used to Love H.E.R." are below.
Rock The Bells 2010? Um, awesome.
For the first time in the history of hip-hop entertainment, ROCK THE BELLS is slated to have headliners perform their most influential albums in their entirety. East-coast legends Wu-Tang Clan will perform Enter the Wu-Tang: 36 Chambers from beginning to end. Released in 1993, the group's debut album revived the New York rap scene and is widely-regarded as one of the greatest albums in hip-hop history. Considered one of the greatest MC's of all time, Rakim is set to perform 1987's, Paid In Full, his first full-length album with Eric B. Fellow Golden age, east coast rapper, Slick Rick will conquer The Great Adventures of Slick Rick. Released in 1989, this debut album became a certified-platinum classic topping the Billboard's Top R&B/ Hip Hop Albums charts. Highly regarded as the "THE TEACHER", KRS-One is a hip hop culture advocate, music producer, MC and published author. Hailed as one of the best live performers, KRS-One will perform [the Boogie Down Productions classic LP] Criminal Minded. The 1987 trend-setting album sampled music from various genres including rock, reggae and funk.In addition to that drooler of a hip hop lineup, Rock The Bells will also feature a rotating cast of also-awesomes, depending on where you lay your head. Lineups haven't been solidified by city but look for appearances from Street Sweeper Social Club, Murs and 9th Wonder, Wiz Khalifa, Clipse, Immortal Technique, Jedi Mind Tricks, Brother Ali, DJ Muggs and Ill Bill, Big Sean, Yelawolf, and more TBA (but not Lauryn Hill).
So far only four festival dates have been released, LA (8/21), San Fran (8/22), NYC at Governors Island (8/28), and DC (8/29). Ticket info is forthcoming.
Some great upcoming hip hop shows in the coming weeks, starting with Murs who is back with producer 9th Wonder for a new album, Murs 9th Wonder Fornever. Check out the first track from the album, "3:16 Part 2" above. Fornever is due on April 13th, and one week later, the "Bad Man" will kick off a US tour in Arizona that has him crashlanding at Highline Ballroom on May 19th. Tickets are on sale.
DJ Hi-Tek has done beats for the entire G-Unit crew, so in that light, I guess it makes sense that the thematically different Hi-Tek project (with Talib Kweli) Reflection Eternal would play the "This is 50" (Cent) event at Nokia Theater. Although for the life of me, I cant figure out why Reflection Eternal would support Lloyd Banks. Ah, nepotism. Tickets for April 29th at Nokia Theater with Banks and Reflection Eternal are on sale.
One day before the "This is 50" event, One Be Lo will step back into his old role as a member of Binary Star for a show at Knitting Factory (4/28) with DJ Abilities, Pigeon John, Donny Goines, and Nyle. Tickets are on sale. One Be Lo is scheduled to drop his new solo album B.A.B.Y. on MYX later this year, which features appearances from Royce Da 5'9, Freeway, Zion I, Phonte, Jean Grae, and more. Check out a track from the upcoming LP above.
Though Before The Casket Drops has, um, dropped, Clipse is still on the road promoting the record, laying down dates in NYC at Highline Ballroom (5/6, tickets) and Baruch College earlier that same day. Ninjasonik is on board to get the party started. Full tour dates are below.
Finally, a few hip hop greats from the 90s are scheduled to play NYC in the coming weeks. Naughty by Nature and Black Sheep will team up for a show at Brooklyn Masonic Temple on 5/21 (tickets still on sale). Cypress Hill could easily play a room much much larger than SOBs, but look for them at the venue on 4/15 (tickets still avail) and the blastmaster KRS-ONE on 4/20 (tickets). Wait... shouldn't those dates be reversed?
Tour dates and some videos are below...
Themselves are on the road with someone else, namely Rhymesayers duo Eyedea & Abilities. The pair are currently getting ready to spend Thanksgiving day somewhere between DC (11/25) and Brooklyn, and are scheduled to take on Knitting Factory in NYC on 11/27. Tickets are on sale. E&A are touring off of their recent LP, By The Throat, their first in five years. Dig on "This Story" from that LP above, along with videos for "Smile" and "Junk" below.
In other Rhymesayers news, Slug of Atmosphere & Murs have issued their latest ode to female actresses, FELT 3. This time, their muse is the queen of White Men Can't Jump and Do The Right Thing, Rosie Perez:
B-List actresses be warned and flattered because FELT is back! Slug (Atmosphere) and Murs (Living Legends) reunite for their third release from moniker FELT. These MCs teamed up with The Grouch (Living Legends) in 2002 to release FELT's debut album A Tribute to Christina Ricci. Collaborating with producer Ant (Atmosphere) in 2005 resulted in their second coming A Tribute to Lisa Bonet. With the fresh addition of Aesop Rock (Def Jux) on production and unwavering love for those forgotten actresses who warmed their hearts, Slug and Murs are pleased to present FELT 3: A Tribute to Rosie Perez...That LP is out now on Rhymesayers Entertainment, along with the new Freeway mixtape The Beat Made Me Do It featuring Don Cannon (cannon, cannon, cannon) on the wheels and Jake One on the pads. Download that above. Freeway will issue The Stimulus Package via Rhymesayers Entertainment on Feb 16, 2010. Freeway was once a frequent collaborator with Jay-Z who is set to play the Izod Center and Nassau Coliseum this spring.

DOWNLOAD: The Los Angeles Leakers - Damn It Feels Good To Be A Gangsta Mixtape, hosted by MURS (ZShare, Zipped MP3)
Nick Carter has scheduled a single NYC show for September 10th at Highline Ballroom, tickets are on sale. No, not the Nick Carter of Backstreet Boys (don't ask how I know who he is)...
Nick Carter, professionally known as MURS is an American rapper. His pseudonym is an acronym that stands for "Making Underground Raw Shit." He is signed to the independent label Record Collection and is a member of the hip hop groups Living Legends, Felt, and the 3 Melancholy Gypsys - [Wiki]Making Underground Raw Shit recently hosted the latest mixtape by The Los Angeles Leakers entitled Damn It Feels Good To Be A Gangsta, presumably after the ill Geto Boys track from the Office Space soundtrack. The mix features classic West Coast burners by Ice Cube, MC Eiht, WC, Kam, Mack 10, and many others and is available for download above.
In other hip hop @ Highline Ballroom news, Rakim has a show coming up, and the Roots play there on a regular basis with special guests like Pumpkinhead who joined them on stage at their July 28th gig. Video from that below...

Slug of Atmosphere (Jordon Daley)
Slug and Ant (AKA Atmosphere) are on their way back to NYC, having scheduled July 27th at Webster Hall as part of their ongoing "When God Gives You Ugly Tour". Tickets are on sale. The show is one of a handful of US dates lined up for this summer including an appearance at Lollapalooza, another at the 10,000 Lakes Festival (with Wilco, Akron/Family, many others), and a show at Red Rocks with MURS, Aesop Rock, Eyedea & Abilities, and Attracted To Gods. (Um, why can't we get that lineup too?)
The "When God Gives You Ugly Tour" is doing double duty, both promoting their latest LP When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold (now available in a Deluxe Edition with a bonus DVD), as well as celebrating the re-release of their breakthrough LP God Loves Ugly with a bonus DVD.
Originally released as the limited Sad Clown Bad Dub 4 (The Godlovesugly Release Parties) DVD, it features 2 hours of live performance footage, backstage shenanigans, several special guest appearances and music videos for "Godlovesugly", "Summersong" and "Say Shh". Out of print for years, this DVD has been repackaged in a custom sleeve that comes inserted in with the re-issue of God Loves Ugly. All tour dates and a video are below....

Nas @ Rock The Bells 2008 in Jones Beach (more by villageslum.com)
OK, so it's not as much a big bang as last year (A Tribe Called Quest reunion) or the one before (Rage Against The Machine reunion), but Rock The Bells 2009 does have some interesting artists on the lineup. Besides a welcome reunion (Reflection Eternal) (Talib Kweli & Hi-Tek), one suspect one (House of Pain) and some great repeat offenders (Nas, RZA, Raekwon, MOP, Sage Francis, Slum Village), this year's Rock The Bells also boasts an Outkast (Big Boi), a windy city fave (Common), and a true sicko (Necro). The full lineup is:
Amadou & Mariam @ All Points West 2008 (more by Kyle Dean Reinford)
The contest to guess the lineup of this year's All Point West festival continues. I honestly don't even know the lineup yet - I'll be receiving it right before I post it at 7am Monday morning.
Will Coldplay be on the lineup? A lot of people seem convinced based on the band's current tour schedule (which you can see in its entirety below). If they are playing the fest, well, that will be weird.
UPDATE: yes, Coldplay are in fact playing the festival
Amadou and Mariam played All Points West last year, are touring the US with Coldplay in July, and have some headlining dates scheduled in June (including a show at Webster Hall on June 8th). The Mali duo was also just added to this year's Bonnaroo lineup.
Also recently added to Bonnaroo (music and comedy): Public Enemy, Ani Difranco, the Itals and Wailing Souls, Murs, Shadows Fall, High on Fire, Janelle Monáe, Pretty Lights, Tony Rice, Passion Pit, Hockey, White Rabbits, Jimmy Fallon, Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, John Oliver, Rob Riggle, Rory Albanese, Michael Ian Black, Michael Showalter, Aziz Ansari, Kristen Schaal, Arj Barker, Todd Barry, Nick Thune, Wayne Federman, Nick Kroll, Kurt Braunholer, Amy Schumer, Kumail Nanjiani and Pete Holmes. Full Bonnaroo (June 11 - 14 in Manchester, Tennessee) lineup below...

When it comes to licensing, Tom Waits has a strong reputation..
Waits has steadfastly refused to allow the use of his songs in commercials and has joked about other artists who do. ("If Michael Jackson wants to work for Pepsi, why doesn't he just get himself a suit and an office in their headquarters and be done with it?") He has filed several lawsuits against advertisers who used his material without permission. He has been quoted as saying, "Apparently, the highest compliment our culture grants artists nowadays is to be in an ad -- ideally, naked and purring on the hood of a new car," he said in a statement, referring to the Mercury Cougar. "I have adamantly and repeatedly refused this dubious honor....Speaking in an interview in 2005 to NPR's All Things Considered, Waits bluntly says "I'd rather have a hot lead enema" than have a song in a commercial. At the time he was referring to products like Doritos, cars and diapers. His stance isn't as strong when it comes to a good cause. His song "Never Let Go" is the soundtrack to a new PSA by the Ad Council for Feeding America.
...In 2005, Waits sued Adam Opel AG, claiming that, after having failed to sign him to sing in their Scandinavian commercials, they had hired a soundalike singer. In 2007, the suit was settled, and Waits gave the sum to charity." [Wikipedia]
The campaign, shot by American History X director Tony Kaye, launched November 25th and is intended to raise awareness and drive action to fight hunger in America.
Created pro bono by Ogilvy NY, the new TV, radio, print, and web advertising aims to change the way Americans look at this critical issue affecting our country and to understand the fact that many people they interact with on a daily basis may not know where their next meal will come from...Waits says of the project: "We all need to be reminded that the folks who need help getting back on their feet are all members of our family." Watch the two different PSAs below.
"We are thrilled to partner with Feeding America to educate Americans about just how close hunger is to each one of us," according to Peggy Conlon, President & CEO of The Advertising Council. "I believe that the 1 in 8 campaign will inspire Americans to become involved in this critical issue."
"This work uses simple visual imagery to demonstrate the reality of the fact that everyone today knows someone who is hungry," said Antonio Navas and Chris Bradley, creative directors at Ogilvy who developed the campaign. "We were very fortunate to get musician Tom Waits to contribute a beautiful piece of music - "Never Let Go" off of 2006's Orphans -- that helps bring the work to life and connect with the public in a tangible way. We believe it will have great impact on this important cause."
Per the Ad Council model, the PSAs will be distributed to media outlets nationwide this week and will run and air in advertising time and space that is donated by the media.
Other Notable Licensing News:
Another band that usually passes on licensing requests for its music is Arcade Fire. The Canadian band decided to let its song "My Body Is A Cage" be used in the trailer for the new Brad Pitt movie, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
According to the Arcade Fire's management, "This is the first time the band have used their music in this way. David Fincher asked them to look at the trailer. They all thought it was a good use of the music. They have no issue with licensing music when it's used in a creative way. It rarely happens." [Pitchfork]Watch the trailer below.
The soundtrack to Juno continues to inspire advertising creatives. One of Barry Louis Polisar's songs from that soundtrack, "All I Want Is You", gives it a go in a spot for the National Lottery in the UK. The commercial can be seen below.
I've seen the commercial for Ubisoft's new Prince Of Persia game on air this past week. Just like the trailer (watch it below), the spot features the song "Saeglopur" by Sigur Ros. This is the second video game featuring Sigur Ros music - EA's trailer for Dead Space (released in October 2008) uses "Track 7" as the soundtrack.
The Shins' "Sleeping Lessons" provides a cool soundtrack to Statkraft Energy's new European commercial. Watch it at Boards Mag.
Sony has released quite a few new commercials recently for both the PS3 and PSP that have good musical soundtracks. The "Mural" spot features "Everybody Ona Move" by Michael Franti & Spearhead, "LA Plays PSP" has The Grouch featuring MURS' "The Bay To LA", and "NYC Plays PSP" uses Chromeo's "Fancy Footwork". Watch the last one below.

MURS & 9th Wonder
One of my favorite left-coast rhymers, MURS, recently came through with Rock The Bells. For NYC that means Bowery Ballroom on October 29th. Tickets go on sale today (8/22) at noon.
MURS dropped a FREE internet only album Sweet Lord with 9th Wonder on July 23rd. You can download it above, BUT only if you promise to buy MURS' new record, MURS for President, when it comes out on Sept 30th. Promise? ZIP file linked above. All tour dates below...
