DOWNLOAD: Gregory Scott Slay - Keep it a Secret (MP3)

Remy Zero founding member Gregory Scott Slay died from cystic fibrosis in January 2010 just as he was putting the finishing touches on his first new record in four years. That album, Horsethief Beats, finally saw release last month. The album's first single is "Keep it a Secret" and you can download it at the top of this post.
We've also got the premiere of that song's playful, slightly NSFW video, which was directed by Petro who has made clips for TV on the Radio and Active Child. Has has the video's star been possessed by Slay's spirit? Or other spirits? Check it out below.

well, they say:

Handsome Furs have released a new and NSFW video for "What About Us", the sixth track on their spankin' new LP Sound Kapital. Stereogum talked to the video's director Scott Coffey who explained how "the video ties into Sound Kapital's [NWFW] cover art?...
"I conceived the cover photograph. With the exception of the wonderful Chinese water park shots, the photo art was conceived by me during our video shoot -- the cover shot, the back cover of the Furs in the car with the creeping hand, the freeway and night shots where all taken as I made the video. Alexi and Dan chose that great shot of the naked woman on the car for the cover, but I didn't now that was going to be the cover when I shot it. I liked the idea of the album art and video being integrated. I like the idea of a unified vibe and theme for the album art and video. Sort of like the modern version of a 1970's concept album."Check that the video below.
Handsome Furs hit Webster Hall on August 18th as part of a larger US/EU tour that kicks off next week and ends in middle October. Tickets are still available for the NYC show, and all tour dates are below under the new video...

Four Loko is a caffeinated malt beverage which myself and many of my friends enjoy. Recent legislation has threatened the sale of Four Loko in New York State. We ask Dennis Rosen, chairman of the NYS Liquor Authority, to rethink his stance under the belief that Four Loko is essential to New York City's well being and part of a balanced drink menu.8-bit rockers Anamanaguchi (whose new song we debuted a little over a month earlier) stood up and fought for our rights as free American beverage consumers by organizing (along with Ryder Ripps), and playing a stripped down set at, an outdoor Four Loko rally, as described above, in Union Square last night (11/17). Part vigil, part outdoor concert, part rally, and all crazy, onlookers were treated to an acoustic set from the band, as well as their fair share of public (or should I say pubic?) nudity. Leia was on hand for the action, and her very NSFW pictures (possibly disturbing), and some video testimonials to the power of the beverage, (you've been warned) are below...It is my personal belief that New Yorker and American Forefather, Alexander Hamilt...on, would have enjoyed Four Loko and made it his drink of choice during the grueling Battle of Yorktown - as it is a drink which can keep you awake and warm - perfect for when Hamilton and General George Washington led the remaining 2000 soldiers of the Continental Army across the Hudson to Brooklyn in pure silence under the dark New York City moon - a maneuver which saved the army, won back New York and ultimately America from the taxing hand of the British.
Please join us on the steps of Union Square at 7pm on November 17th for this candle light vigil - share your voice, bring a sign, light a candle and lets UNITE AS ONE to stand for FREEDOM and something greater than the individual .. AS ONE WE CAN BE FOUR. -[Four Loko Supporters]

Tinsel Teeth at Cake Shop, one of the only pictures that is SFW

Tinsel Teeth played Cake Shop on Friday, 11/12, supporting the killer doom bill of Monarch! and Bloody Panda who also played Union Pool the next night. Though the Providence band doesn't neatly fit into the metal, punk, or noise genre (they are more of a noise-damaged hardcore/punk band), Tinsel Teeth won over the Cake Shop fans with their beyond incendiary live show and its subsequent over-the top moshing, crowd surfing, standing on the bar, blood, a strap-on (yes that kind), and nudity.
More pictures, and (((unartig))) video of the last ten minutes of their set at Cake Shop (which includes the bar-serenade and subsequent crowdsurfing) are below (pictures of the other bands are on the way, and from both shows), but note: this photo set is SUPREMELY NSFW....

into Hunx's eyes at LPR in 2009 (more by Jake Forney)

"by the time HUNX AND HIS PUNX went on, i was kind of really wasted and my dance moves weren't as sharp. my hat was slipping all over the place and i felt sloppy. but whatever! that's what it's all about, right? anyway, hunx was wearing pantyhose as pants with thong underwear underneath and a shear jacket on top. he was amazing, and he and his punx all had matching blade runner stripes drawn across their eyes. the crowd was so fucking into it, and i wished that i hadn't worn my hat so i could have jammed out even harder. they finished their set a little after midnight, which surprised me. i thought i wasn't going to be heading home until after two. i grabbed the free beer that the bartender promised me and then i went home. my ears are still ringing! "After an opening set by Vivian Girls side project The Babies, Hunx & His Punx headlined Cake Shop on 10/16, the same night as BBQ and King Khan & The Shrines shows took place in different places around NYC. If you opted for BBQ or King Khan instead that night you're in luck; Hunx & His Punx, previously billed as "secret special guest", will play the Hardly Art CMJ showcase on 10/21 at Shea Stadium with Xray Eyeballs, Golden Triangle, Circle Pit, La Sera, Fergus & Geronimo, and Woven Bones. The announcement comes with the news that Hunx & His Punx have signed to Hardly Art, who will release their new LP in 2011.
[Randall, reviewing the Cake Shop show]
In related news, another artist on the Hardly Art bill, La Sera (aka Kickball Katy of the Vivian Girls) will hit the high seas with as part of a Pabst Blue Ribbon yacht party tomorrow from 2PM-6PM. Tweet at PBR_Brooklyn if you want on, but beware that the show has a "tight list". You can also catch La Sera at Irving Plaza tonight and Saturday night at the PureVolume House with Teen Inc.
Golden Triangle have a few CMJ dates in their warpath, as does fellow Hardly Art showcasers X-Ray Eyeballs (mems of GT) who will also play Don Pedro's the same night as their Shea Stadium show as part of the Impose series of shows.
King Khan reportedly joined (or was planning on joining) XRay Eyeballs on stage at Death By Audio Sunday night. Some joyous videos of the King Khan & the Shrines show at Santos (Darren Mabee included), and a recent live Hunx and His Punx video (naked people included) (NSFW), below...
one of Big Freedia's dancers @ PS1 (more by Zach Dilgard)

Big Freedia is blowin (bouncin) up. It's been roughly four months since the New Orleans resident was featured prominently in the New York Times Magazine, and she'll be making what is probably her network television debut tonight (9/30) on Last Call With Carson Daly. That's on after Fallon, so unless you stay up all night, set your DVR.
if you happen to be in Miami, well then you can also catch Freedia tonight at Vagabond. It's the next show on an ongoing tour that continues through Pop Montreal (10/3), some dates with Matt & Kim (10/11-10/13), CMJ and Fun Fun Fun Fest.
For CMJ, there are at least two NYC shows, both official, ticketed showcases and both on sale. There's the previously mentioned Windish showcase happening at Santos on October 23rd (tickets), and a show one night earlier at Southpaw with Javelin and Dominique Young Unique (who also plays the Santos show and who also played with Freedia at the final Pool Party of the summer).
And as if Big Freedia shows aren't dirty enough, she recently played one in an actual strip club and there's (NSFW) video footage. That video and all dates below...

Frankie & the Outs @ Tip Top in July (more by Rebecca Smeyne)

There have been multiple instances (and multiple bands) where Frankie Rose (currently of Frankie and the Outs) has performed in revealing clothing (see above), but as far as I know this is the first time she's gone publicly topless, and by publicly I mean on countless NYC street corners via the cover of free weekly newspaper NY Press... which is pictured below...

Yo-Landi Vi$$er

"the show last night [ridiculous] and awesome and bad, and magic--mia [sucked] so bad, she must must have done [it] on purpose. she's got some tricks and some ideas, but [I] think she just got so cagey when die anterwoord blew her out of the water that she pulled this weird ass rockstar theatrics and sabotaged herself and the sound system, along with throwing a big fuck you to the crowd that actually came to see her. [I] mean at some point before she went on, they cut the Dj off and there was this whole sound from the backstage VIP area, and the crowd got [to] listen to it for a few minutes in silence, and it was like "that's were the party is at, suckers". I don't know if she drinks or not, but the bit about having a shot of [tequila] in her seemed by far the realest part of the night. The best was the rain over the lazers, but she didn't even know how to make that to work for her, so it seemed like Nature taking pity on her." [Anonymous]That review refers to Saturday night's HARD FEST on Governors Island which we'll be covering in multiple parts.
This post contains Alexander's pictures of the final three main-stage acts (M.I.A. who spit down on Alexander while Alex captured the saliva on film, Die Antwoord who made at least one female member of the ecstasy-filled crowd go wild, and Sleigh Bells who also sounded great), and two videos (topless girl and lasers/rain), below...
Neon Indian @ Bonnaroo 2010 (WFUV)

Neon Indian brought topless body-painted "Neon Indians" on stage at the end of their Bonnaroo set last night (6/10). That set (as of 1:50pm EST) is about to stream online (though whether they cut that part remains to be seen) (note that the streaming times are not EST and that the YouTube stream is video and NPR is audio and that they have different schedules).
Some pictures (NSFW) of the Neon Indians and a video interview with Alan from two hours before he took the Bonnaroo stage, below...

Trip-Hop legends Massive Attack have released their new video for "Paradise Circus" (ft. Hope Sandoval) in support of their album, Heligoland, set to release February 9th via EMI's Virgin Records. The Toby Dye directed video features former porn star, Georgina Spelvin, and her candid look on filming the infamous adult film, The Devil in Miss Jones. Original shots of the '73 hit (NSFW) are interlaced with Spelvin's honest take on her physical and emotional state during the production of the film nearly forty years ago.It feels like forever that I've been waiting to hear the new Hope Sandoval-contributed Massive Attack track and it's well worth the wait though I could do without the distracting commentary by Georgina. I hope there's a version without her. I don't really think that The xx sound like Hope Sandoval, but this song definitely sounds a little like The xx. Listen/watch (NSFW) the video with the album art and tracklist, below...Heligoland, Massive Attack's highly-anticipated 5th studio album, will feature guest vocals from Damon Albarn, Marina Topely-Bird, Guy Garvey and Tunde Adebimpe. Longtime cohort, Horace Andy, is also set to return alongside Massive Attack founding members Robert Del Naja (3D) and Grand Marshall (Daddy G). The prelude to Heligoland, the Splitting the Atom EP, is available now.
Yeasayer's February shows at Bowery Ballroom and Music Hall of Williamsburg are sold out, and they've added a third show, though it's not until May 4th at Webster Hall. Tickets are on presale now (password = oddblood).
Since releasing that interactive nudity game, the band have also released an actual new music video (that is also NSFW). You can check it out below...

Tickets are now on AmEx presale for the two just-announced February Yeasayer album release shows.
Like before, they're still giving away the song "Ambling Alp", but now you download it while listening to trippy background music and attempting to get naked people in focus with your mouse in a new interactive video they just posted.
Like The Flaming Lips, Matt & Kim, Sigur Ros and others before them, the band knows that sex sells appreciates the natural beauty that is the human body.

A deluxe version of Embryonic was released on October 13, 2009.It's no secret that Wayne Coyne loves people to get undressed. In the Flaming Lips' new video for "Watching the Planets", he even gets in on the action. It's embedded below, but that doesn't seem to be working so you can watch it at NME's site. The deluxe edition includes the original 18 tracks (on two discs) as well as a bonus audio DVD which features the album in full dynamic range at 96k 24 bit audio. The CDs and DVD are in a "fur pack" with an extended booklet which features additional art, lyrics, and band photos. The deluxe edition also comes with a 14 inch by 28 inch lithograph featuring the full album cover. A limited number of pre-orders received an additional lithograph autographed by the band, shipped 2-3 weeks after the release date. [Wiki]

the brothers JEFF

MyOpenBar presented a show Above the Auto Parts Store which was one of the last shows of CMJ's rainy Saturday night. Many, like Leia, came directly from the Pitchfork show at Market Hotel. I came from the Neon Indian and Almighty Defenders show in Williamsburg, and missed noise-pop duo Sisters and power trio Screaming Females but caught Surfer Blood (who play DBA tonight, 10/26).
It was at least Surfer Blood's tenth set at the five day festival, but they didn't let it show. Attempting to bring some much needed energy to the waning crowd, the band's additional fifth member worked a percussion rack and a tiny, standard-issue MicroKorg and passed out maracas and shakers to the crowd. Surfer Blood loads its echoey pop with familiar musical and lyrical references. Their song "Twin Peaks," which makes mention of the frequent indie muse (see Mount Eerie's newest album), has a certain Vampire Weekend buoyancy but with a harder edge. Instead of crisp sounds, spacey vocals take the lead through their winding melodic lines and African-inspired rhythms. Surfer Blood were good, but in a tough spot, sandwiched between Screaming Females and JEFF the Brotherhood - two bands that radiate full-on essence of rock - in a mostly empty second-floor garage at 2am.
Spacious as the massive garage was, and with a crowd sized more for a smaller venue like Death By Audio, once JEFF the Brotherhood took the stage everything changed. People who had been idly dozing off, or smoking on the entry ramp as it seemed like more than half were, lined up along the front of the stage to pound their fists on the plywood floor, jump around and more or less go totally fucking nuts. The band (actual brothers) has a heavy, crunchy sound for only two members (something to do with Jake's three-string guitar?) and the rock riffs are leavened with bubblegum hooks and direct choruses that resonate even if you're floating on a sea of hands. It was the perfect introduction to the band.
It was one of a ton of shows for JEFF, including three earlier in the day and a showcase for their Infinity Cat label on Friday, but not their last for long. They go on tour with Shonen Knife (which has two NYC-area stops in November) and open for Ted Leo at Bowery Ballroom on December 6th.
Screaming Females' next show, before they head out with Arctic Monkeys (at Terminal 5 on December 11th) and play a holiday show with Bouncing Souls, will be a benefit at Asbury Lanes for 180 NJ, a non-profit organization set-up to help combat domestic violence & sexual assault. That happens on November 21st with Full of Fancy, No Connection, the reunited Kanamits, Sick Fix, Black Kites and Human Failures. A flyer is below.
Surfer Blood will soon go on tour with Art Brut, and both are scheduled at Brooklyn Bowl on November 13th. Finally, Brooklyn's Sisters have an upcoming TBA Halloween show and a gig at Market Hotel on December 4th with Pterodactyl.
Darren Mabee and Sally Burtnick were in the crowd, especially during the Screaming Females set, and they let their presence be known. More pictures (NSFW), below...

Ladyhawke

"New Zealand rocker Ladyhawke may sing about Paris burning, but on Wednesday it was New York City that was on fire. At the headliner of the "Perez Hilton Presents" concert at the Fillmore at Irving Plaza, Ladyhawke was well-worth her witching-hour performance, featuring crowd-friendly renditions of "Back of the Van" and "My Delirium." Unfortunately, fellow co-headliner Ida Maria was a no-show because of illness. No matter. The two surprises Hilton pulled out of his sleeve certainly made up for it.By "across town", they mean at Bowery Ballroom where Little Boots also played on Wednesday night (9/16). Ida Maria was in fact a no-show, though the type of illness is unclear - it may have been a case of Perez-itis because she seemed to be doing okay when she performed at the Betsey Johnson fashion show a night or two earlier. Officially it became this:"I'm marveling that I was able to pull it off, because I've never put on a tour before," Hilton told MTV News. "The reason why I'm doing the tour, the reason I have a record label, the reason why I write about music on my Web site is because I think music lovers like sharing good music with other music lovers."...
...Last-minute surprise act Little Boots hit the stage sans her band mates (they were stuck across town) and performed solo with only a piano to accompany her. She thanked Hilton with a run through a haunting cover of Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill" and was followed by another surprise in Kat DeLuna, whose high-octane hip-swirling show made the walls sweat." [MTV]
Friday, September 18, 2009One night before the Irving show Ladyhawke played the Apple Store. More pictures from Irving Plaza (NSFW - there were strippers), below...
Ida Maria will not be finishing the current Perez Hilton Presents Tour. She is suffering from total exhaustion and will be heading home to Norway to rest and be under Doctor's care. Her personal statement to everyone is:Dear Friends and Fans. I am so very sorry but I cannot finish this tour. After touring in Scandinavia, Europe, the UK, Australia, Japan and the USA for 3 years straight I am just completely exhausted. I have learned that I am not a superwoman.
I love all the bands, musicians and crew on this tour. Go see these bands! I will be back and look forward to playing you my music both new and old. The new music is in forefront of my mind. Thank you all again. See you soon. I wish you peace.

GENESIS BREYER P-ORRIDGE | 30 YEARS OF BEING CUT UPThe exhibit is running now and up through October 18th at Invisible Exports (14A Orchard St). A few more details are below."30 Years of Being Cut Up" is a three decade retrospective of photomontage and Expanded Polaroids, which includes many works never exhibited before, as well as a sampling of P-Orridge's early Mail Art. The show will mark the culmination of a new, re-emergent phase in BREYER P-ORRIDGE's life. He/r career -- and most particularly he/r recent pursuit of pandrogyny -- tests the limits of transgression and traces the tragic fate of the underground, proving again the expressive power and pervasive influence of those artists who take the world not as it comes to them -- sensible, orthodox, predictable -- but as they would like it to be.
P-Orridge will be on the road with Psychic TV this fall, with European dates in September and November. Before that, s/he plays with Thee Majesty on the first night of Santos' Musicka Mystica Festival which runs on September 21st and 22nd.
Back in April, Genesis got back together with he/r old band Throbbing Gristle to play a bunch of shows. That included a major festival and three in NYC - April 16th at Brooklyn Masonic Temple, April 17th at Le Poisson Rouge, April 19th at Coachella, and then again back at the Masonic Temple on April 28th. In light of all the coverage we were giving them at the time, I let our set of pictures from that final show go unposted. I even had something written that included mention of the crazy, voluptous, pierced and topless lady in the balcony who you can see from afar, while she still had her bra on, in one of Lori's pictures that are, now finally, below (you can literally say I saved them for a rainy day).
All upcoming Psychic TV tour dates (with a radio session clip from last year), and more info on the art show, are below too...

"The tradition of the Coney Island Mermaid Parade began in 1983, when the first event of this kind was conceptualized and organized by Dick Zigun, who is sometimes dubbed the "Mayor of Coney Island", and who was the founder of the non-profit arts group Coney Island USA.Despite the rain, this year's Mermaid Parade went down as planned in Coney Island (Brooklyn, NY) this afternoon (6/21). Harvey Keitel, with his wife (the queen) by his side, was the the king (Neptune) of the parade. More pictures (NSFW), below...The parade pays homage to the Coney Island Mardi Gras parades of the early 20th century. During this era, Coney Island was the primary amusement park destination for those in the New York area. Like the much larger annual Village Halloween Parade, the mermaid parade embodies the spirit and artistry of Mardi Gras." [Wiki]
