Snoop & Kurupt at Brooklyn Bowl (more by Tim Griffin)

it was expected that during a weekend of music and festivities that Nate Dogg's legacy would be highlighted at some of the events of this past weekend's SXSW music festival in Austin.

Snoop Dogg, Warren G, Daz Dillinger and Kurupt all took the stage at Venue 222 during the "Respect The West" showcase and properly memorialized their fallen friend this past Saturday (March 19). MTV News captured some of the celebratory tribute on video which was a huge contrast to the somber tweets and condolences from those who knew Nate Dogg well.

Snoop Dogg and the rest of the D.P.G.C. seemed to put all of their energy into their performances, including a touching moment of silence - capped with Snoop inhaling a certain substance during the pause to show his respects.

Although the show was festive, Warren G admitted to MTV News that while he and his west coast brethren gave their best that the crew deeply misses their long-time colleague. "It means a lot, you know, because this is something that's being done for a person that we really love. It's deeper than music, that's a brother to us, to me and Kurupt and Snoop and Daz ... it's really deeper than that." -[MTV News]

Venue 222 was also known as "VIBE House" for the week, and you can watch videos from the tribute-filled final night below.

What other Nate Dogg tributes did you catch at SXSW? !!! did a cover at our Saturday BrooklynVegan Day Party at Barbarella (more info on that coming in a review of the whole show).

In other Snoop Dogg news, his previously announced March 26th show at Wellmont Theater has been pushed back to April 28th. All purchased tickets will be honored, and tickets are still available.

Nate Dogg

One of rap's most lauded male hook singers, Long Beach, California native Nate Dogg (born Nathaniel Hale) died on Tuesday at the age of 41 after several years of health problems.

With his deep, melodic voice and smooth soul rumble, Dogg was one of the key elements in the rise of the West Coast G-Funk sound pioneered by Death Row Records in the early 1990s. Though overshadowed by such peers as Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and Warren G, Nate was a critical participant in a number of major left-coast gangsta hits, including G's "Regulate" and Dre's iconic solo debut, 1992's The Chronic.

...The cause of death [yesterday, 3/15] was not announced at press time, but Hale had struggled with serious health issues recently, including suffering a massive stroke in 2007 that left him partially paralyzed and another the following year. A spokesperson for the singer could not be reached for comment at press time for further details on his passing. -[MTV News]

It could be argued that Nate Dogg provided hooks for some of the most iconic songs in hip hop in the 90's, whether with Dr.Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Warren G, Dogg Pound, or any of the west coast affiliates. He will be missed. Nate Dogg R.I.P.

Warren G says he still cannot believe his friend and colleague DJ AM is gone. The two were just rocking crowds together earlier this summer.

"Me and DJ AM, we done like five or six shows together recently," G told MTV News this week in New Mexico. "He was just an incredible dude. What tripped me out, what I liked about him, he was just sharp with everything he was doing. He was a die-hard hip-hop cat. When I seen him wear a 'This DJ' T-shirt, I knew this dude really loved what I do. I was already loving what he did. He was humble. We did a lot of great shows together with him and Travis, and I'll always treasure that.

Tickets went on sale today at noon for two upcoming Warren G shows that will take place at Bowery Ballroom and Music Hall of Williamsburg. No word on whether he's bringing Nate...
