William Basinski / Blade Runner with Arto Lindsay @ Trans-Pecos 12/8/2015
"Just go for it," I heard someone scream from the stage in between songs, and it's a fitting motto to bring forth while recapping the show. For an hour, the band did just that: they went for it. Smiling like mad scientists, Arto Lindsay, Will Epstein, and Dave Harrington were having a blast as they scrambled the brains of a sold-out, Bushwick audience. Jaar was off in the corner, in his own little world as he brought forth his critically acclaimed skills on the keys and electronics. - [ Dub Era]Nicolas Jaar's label Other People is currently in residence at experimental-friendly venue Trans-Pecos. The residency kicked off with a show on Thursday (12/8) with Okokon, ambient great William Basinski, and a live improv set from Bladerunner (Dave Harrington, Will Epstein, Tlacael Esparza, Samer Ghadry and Jaar) with Arto Lindsay joining them. Pictures of the show in this post.
The residency continues through Friday (12/11), with a three-hour Jaar DJ set tonight (12/9), Afrika Bambaataa and more on Thursday (12/10) and Teenage Jesus and the Jerks and more on Friday. Check out more pictures from Tuesday night's show below.
Please welcome the third annual Rock Lottery to Knitting Factory on December 1st:
The premise is simple, but effective. Twenty-five hand picked musicians meet at 10:00AM at the evenings performance venue. These volunteers are organized into five groups through a lottery-based chance selection. The five separate groups are then released to practice at different locations. The musicians have twelve hours to create a band name and three to five songs (with a one cover-song limit). The groups will then perform what they have created that evening in front of a waiting audience. This year's event
