Nightlands at Knitting Factory in February (more by Jono Bernstein)
Speaking of similar/confusing band names, two that have been getting me this year are Night Beds and Nightlands. Both are vaguely in the folk spectrum and had releases that came out two weeks apart in the first quarter of 2013. Plus, Night Beds' album, Country Sleep, came out on Dead Oceans and Nightlands' album, Oak Island, came out on affiliated label Secretly Canadian.
To keep this confusion up, both artists have announced spring/early summer tours this week. Night Beds' tour kicks off in Tennessee in May and ends in NYC on June 30 at Glasslands. Tickets For that show go on sale Friday (4/12) at 10 AM.
Nightlands' tour is much shorter, and it begins with a NYC show on May 29 at Mercury Lounge. Tickets for that show go on sale Friday (4/12) at noon.
All dates for both tours are listed, along with Nightlands' new video for "Born to Love" and a live Night Beds video, below...

Los Angeles' punky, poppy Bleached (Jennifer and Jessica Clavin, formerly of Mika Miko) have just signed to Dead Oceans and the label will release the band's debut album sometime next year. The record was produced by Darker My Love's Rob Barbato and Jennifer Clavin told SPIN that the album will be more than more of what we've heard before:
What we really wanted to do was explore. We've been doing this since we were teenagers and we have a certain sound on our last three seven-inches, but we wanted to show some variety. This new record has songs you'll be familiar with, but there are also things that will be a surprise. It's just really fun.Bleached just wrapped up a tour with Japandroids and have a couple shows in California coming up, including one opening for Ty Segall at the El Rey Theatre in L.A. on December 15.
Speaking of Dead Oceans, some of Bleached's new labelmates have shows coming up. A Place to Bury Strangers will play 285 Kent on Saturday (12/1) as part of a Hurricane Sandy relief benefit with Liturgy, Total Slacker and Royal Baths.
Bear in Heaven play Music Hall of Williamsburg on December 5 with Small Black and Eraas. Tickets are still available and part of the proceeds from that show will go to Sandy relief too, as will part of the bar at the afterparty which happens next door at Public Assembly.
And newish Dead Oceans signee Night Beds, who released their first 7" for the label a couple months ago, have a show coming up at Pianos on December 11 with Snowmine and St. Claire. Tickets are still available.
Dead Oceans signee Night Beds (the project of Winston Yellin from Nashville via Colorado Springs) released a 7" single on the label in September, which you've heard the A-side, "Even If We Try," to, and now we're debuting a live in-studio version of the B-side, "You Were Afraid," which was filmed at Brooklyn's Braund Sound studio., Watch that below. They plan to put out their debut album, Country Sleep, in February 2013.
Night Beds played two NYC shows in October, and they plan to return for a headlining show at Pianos on December 11. No openers have been announced yet and tickets are not on sale yet but you can check Ticketweb for updates.
A list of all dates and the "You Were Afraid Video" are below.
