The Hold Steady @ Northsix in 2007 (AngryCitizen)
Hold Steady

Brendan was at The Hold Steady's second of two shows at Music Hall of Williamsburg last night, 1/31, and had this to say:

"Remarkable set. One of my favorites, no doubt. Great crowd energy, band seemed to be having a great time. Keys or no keys, they still rule.

Craig noted that they played their first show there eight years ago to the day when it was North Six on January 31, 2003. Interesting that they're now closer to that lineup than they were for most of their existence. Full circle."

If you missed both shows, tickets are still on sale for their April 8th Terminal 5 gig.

Videos from the MHOW shows, including proof of Craig's comment about 8 years, and both setlists below...

Beirut @ MHOW

It was almost two years ago that Beirut played in the venue that occupied the same space that they played last night (May 18, 2008). I don't know what my point is. Last night's last-minute Brooklyn show at MHOW was really great (2 encores, some covers, all the hits, and kick ass new songs). More pictures & comments, and the setlist, below....

Music Hall of Williamsburg

One minute she's closing a venue, and the next...

The Bowery Presents, an independent New York concert-promotion company, today announced the Music Hall of Williamsburg will open on September 4th with Patti Smith and Her Band. The Music Hall of Williamsburg will occupy the former space of Northsix, on 66 North 6th Street, and will provide a first-rate, mid-size venue for bands to play in Brooklyn.
Jose Gonzalez and the Black Lips are already scheduled to play there too. This new venue is about the same size as Bowery Ballroom in Manhattan, and the competing new Luna Lounge in the same Brooklyn neighborhood. More below...
