Rachel Evans of MSOTT/Quiet Evenings
Ambient artist Rachel Evans has put out a wildly impressive amount of material since adopting the Motion Sickness of Time Travel moniker in 2009. In addition to MSOTT, she also makes music with Quiet Evenings, the duo made up of Rachel and her husband Grant Evans (who formerly operated under the moniker Nova Scotian Arms until last month, when he began recording under his own name).
Her most recent Motion Sickness of Time Travel release is the self titled full-length that she put out earlier this month via Spectrum Pools. A self titled album (especially one that comes out after well over ten releases) is usually something of a defining moment, and MSOTT is no exception. Though Rachel's been honing her craft quite well over the past few years, everything falls into place on this LP. With four tracks, all of which clock in over 20 minutes, Rachel swirls soundscapes, textures, and her own voice into layers of sound that take their time floating above you before drifting past. It's fitting that the only vocal she sings on the album's opening cut, "The Dream," is the repeated line, "I am the universe." Check out the album, which is streaming in its entirety below (via AdHoc).
Rachel has a few shows scheduled, both as MSOTT and with Grant in Quiet Evenings. Neither of which are any time soon. MSOTT will play The Stone on February 1, 2013 with a solo set from Grant Evans, and the next day (2/2/13), Rachel and Grant will team up for a Quiet Evenings show at the NYC venue, along with a set by Afterlife.
