Touche Amore @ Revolution in July (more by Mimi Hong)
Touche Amore

No Sleep Records is putting out a new compilation this week, A Comp For Mom, which is a tribute to label founder Chris Hansen's mom who recently passed away. Here's what Chris had to say about it:

A Comp For Mom is a special project i planned over the past month of my mom's life, to release in her honor and to help raise funds for her medical bills. Now it will be released in memory of her. 100% of the proceeds will be going towards any medical bills/other expenses incurred after her passing, after that 100% of the proceeds will go into a Linda Hansen Memorial Fund.

I love you Mom, say hi to Dad for me.

The comp features rare and unreleased tracks by La Dispute, Into It. Over It., Now, Now, Run Forever and more, as well as covers such as Allison Weiss taking on The Beatles' "In My Life," Daisyhead doing Jimmy Eat World's "Work" and, recorded special for this compilation, Touché Amore's version of The National's "Available" that they played at Revolution last month. The song, which is a digital-only bonus track, mostly features singer Jeremy Bolm using clean vocals until the song's end when he brings back his trademark scream.

You can pre-order A Comp For Mom now. A full stream of the compilation premieres in this post and can be listened to below.

Field Mouse at Mercury Lounge in February (more by Dominick Mastrangelo)
Field Mouse

Brooklyn's shoegazey Field Mouse are going on a short Northeast tour this December with Minneapolis songwriter Tancred and Toronto's The Box Tiger. That tour kicks off in Field Mouse's hometown of NYC on December 18 at Pianos with local band Mount Sharp opening. Tickets for that show are on sale now. All dates are listed, along with the tour flyer, below.

As they usually do, Field Mouse have other upcoming local shows, including one at Cameo on Saturday (11/23) with Work Drugs and Teen Men (tickets), and another opening the previously discussed Ida Maria show at Rough Trade (12/4), along with MiniBoone (tickets). No openers have been announced yet for Ida Maria's Mercury Lounge show (12/3).

You can also catch Mount Sharp in their hometown at The Rock Shop tonight (11/22) with Eldest Son and Z&A (tickets).

Tancred

Tancred is the solo project of Jess Abbott, who plays guitar in Now, Now, and who recently released a self-titled LP on Topshelf Records. The record differs a bit from Now, Now's more atmospheric stuff, favoring a rockier edge. You can stream it in full below.

Meanwhile, Now, Now are in NYC tonight (11/22) at Webster Hall opening for Kevin Devine. The bill also includes Brand New side project Shone and Harrison Hudson. Tickets for tonight's show are still available.

Stream Tancred's LP, along with the list of tour dates, and a Field Mouse video from our BV Studio Sessions, below...

Minus the Bear at Webster Hall in 2010 (more by Matthew Eisman)
Minus the Bear

Minus the Bear released their most recent album, Infinity Overhead, last year and they're continuing to tour in support of it this year with Circa Survive and Now, Now (who have other upcoming dates including a NYC show with Bob Mould). That tour doesn't exactly hit NYC but it will be in the area for shows at Poughkeepsie's The Chance on March 17 and Long Island's The Paramount on March 19. Tickets for the Paramount show go on venue presale today (1/17) at 10 AM (password: "PULSE") and general on-sale starts Friday (1/18) at noon. There's also a presale for the whole tour available at Minus the Bear/Circa Survive's wavesoverhead.com but the two NYC area presales are sold out.

Minus the Bear also just performed on Live from Daryl's House, the web-to-cable series of Daryl Hall (as in, Daryl from Hall & Oates). They hung out with Daryl, did some interviews, cooked, ate dinner, and played some songs while they were at it too. You can video from that below and check out footage of the entire event HERE.

Those videos and a list of all dates below...

Now Now
Now Now

As mentioned previously, Bob Mould will be back in NYC next month for two shows at Bowery Ballroom on February 26 - 27 and tickets are still available. What we didn't know at the time was who was opening the shows, which we now do. Bear in Heaven will open the 2/26 show and Minneapolis trio Now Now will open the 2/27 show. Tickets to both Bowery shows are still available.

Bear in Heaven, who played here last month, have a few other dates coming up, including Chicago's Tomorrow Never Knows Festival next week and a few dates with Hooray for Earth. '

Now Now, meanwhile, are also on the road and will hit NYC before the Bob Mould show as part of the Heavy & Light tour that hits Irving Plaza on February 13 and also features Jon Foreman (of Switchfoot), Anthony Raneri, The Lone Bellow and Will Anderson. Tickets for that show are on sale now.

Back to Bob, the Kickstarter for his concert DVD was successfully funded, and See a Little Light comes out January 15 and you can pre-order it here.

All lists of dates below...

Polica @ Webster Hall, 10/6/2012 (more by Amanda Hatfield)
Polica

Polica's debut album, Give You the Ghost, has shown up on a few Best Of lists this year (like NME and The Fly) but what records did they like in 2012? Well we've got their Top 10 LPs list right here and is topped by Kendrick Lamar's good kid, m.A.A.d city.

They also give props to Minneapolis pal P.O.S. (with whom they collaborate in Gayngs and Marijuana Deathsquads who have sometimes also played as backing band) whose We Don't Even Live Here makes the list. So does their neighbor Now Now's Threads which was released on Chris Walla's Trans label. Check out their whole list below.

Now Now

Minneapolis trio Now Now are currently on the road with The Naked & Famous, a tour which rolls into New York next week for a sold-out show on Wednesday (4/4) at Terminal 5. For those who want to see them in a less cavernous (yet still high-ceilinged) venue, Now Now play a headlining gig on Tuesday (4/3) at Cameo Gallery with Lightyear and Field Mouse. After their stint with the Naked & Famous, the band will then hook up with fun. who will be atTerminal 5 on June 15 and 16 (both sold out).

Now Now's second album, Threads, came out earlier this month on Chris Walla's Trans Records. As you might expect from a label run by a member of Death Cab for Cutie, Threads is expansive, ocean-sized, heart-on-sleeve pop. (You can fill in your own late '90s/early '00s sensitive genre names.) It's a big, ambitious record that sounds like it was built for places like Terminal 5 and, who knows, it may not be long before they are headlining there themselves.

You can stream a couple Threads tracks at the bottom of this post and watch the video for "Dead Oaks" as well. Or you can stream the whole album on Spotify. All Now Now tour dates are below too...
