Here's a scary thought. 1,226 thrash metal fans met up to catch Autopsy and Nuclear Assault headline a festival of high-octane metal that also featured appearances from Cattle Decapitation, Exmortus, Hatchet, Skinlab, Undivided, Vindicator, Warbringer, Whiplash, Witchaven and Zombie Holocaust. Needless to say, a lot of pitting and stage diving went down at Craneway Pavilion in Richmond, CA on Saturday June 25th for the second annual Slaughter by The Water. Pictures from the festival adorn this post.
For headliner Autopsy, the show was one of only two US dates scheduled for this year, with the second going down a few weeks prior at Chaos in Tejas. Nuclear Assault also recently played a festival date as well at Maryland Deathfest, which Witchaven played as part of their tour with Nocturnal that hit NYC.
Slaughter By The Water III is already in the works. More pictures from Slaughter By The Water II below...

Citizens Arrest

After a three days of mayhem (pictures from day 1 HERE, day 2 HERE, and day 3 HERE) featuring sets from Neurosis, Doom, Lack of Interest, Voivod, Extortion, Aura Noir, and tons of notable others, Maryland Deathfest came to a close on Sunday with another full of performances capped by a headlining outdoor set from the reactivated Coroner, their first US appearance in 20 years.
Later that night, the true close to MDF was led by Ghost, whose set was tight and fun visually, but did not impress me as much as the hype suggests (decide for yourself on June 1st at the Studio). The remainder of my day was filled with pretty much every other band on the bill, except for Visceral Disgorge and Doubled Over who I missed in favor of much needed meals. My favorites of the day go to the foul death metallers Dead Congregation and Repugnant, the always awesome Citizens Arrest (who play Europa with another MDF alum, Tragedy, tonight), the energetic Skinless and the over the top goregrind of Last Days of Humanity.
Coroner

Coroner's setlist and more pictures from the final day of Maryland Deathfest 2011, which includes pictures of Oak, Night Bringer, Bad Acid Trip, Gravehill, Malignant Tumour, Dead Congregation, Nokturnel, Repugnant, Orange Goblin, Citizens Arrest, Skinless, Bastard Noise, Nuclear Assault, Wormed, and Last Days of Humanity, are below...

NY's own Suffocation @ 2006 NE Hardcore & Metal Festival (Markcoatsworth)

Gigantour has cancelled their April 24th date in Worcester, Massachusetts.... but, every single band ON Gigantour added another date to make up for it - April 25th (one day later)... in Worcester, Massachusetts. All the Gigantour band performances will now instead be part of day one of the New England Metal & Hardcore Festival! Thats right.... Megadeth, In Flames, Job For A Cowboy, Children Of Bodom, and High On Fire will meet up with almost 70 other bands including headliners Dimmu Borgir, Shadows Fall, Behemoth, Ministry, Meshuggah, and Nevermore during the three day festival (Full band list below). Tickets ($47.50 for Fri, $45 for Sat or Sun or $129 for all three) go on sale this Friday, Feb 15th at 10AM via enterthevault.com, tickets.com, or by phone at 800-477-6849.
That doesn't do it for ya? Prefer your bands with "f*ck" in their name? How about the Maryland Deathfest? Along with bands like Torsof*ck and F*ck... I'm Dead, you can check out monsters like the mighty Anaal Nathrakh (their only US appearance scheduled for this year) Repulsion, Disfear, Grave, Impaled, and thrash legends Nuclear Assault. Tickets can be purchased here. (Full band list and set times below)
Maybe a deathfest sounds too tame, you like your festival with a little more zazz. How about a murderfest? The LA Murderfest to be exact, taking place in Los Angeles, CA @ The Knitting Factory in Hollywood from April 18th - April 20th. The Converge/Baroness/Red Chord/Genghis Tron extravaganza will be in the hiz-ouse, along with NH's own Trap Them, Vital Remains, and vegetarian superheroes Cattle Decapitation. Honestly, can you really argue with the tagline "2 stages + 3 days = Total Brutality"?
Don't live in those towns? Too lazy to travel to them? Irrational fear of mechanized transportation? Luckily, a few killer bands will be swinging through a town near you on the Summer Slaughter 2008 (dates TBD, starting in June)..... bands like The Black Dahlia Murder, Kataklysm, Vader, Cryptopsy, and Whitechapel! Other dates and lineups below....
