DTA / Obituary / Massacre
Death to All (Death DTA), the touring Death tribute frequently featuring ex-members, brought their ongoing tour to NYC for a show at Best Buy Theater on November 30. The bill was pretty stacked all around, with more veteran death metal from Obituary and Massacre, as well as comparative newcomers Rivers of Nihil. More pictures from that show below...

The above pic was posted on Slayer's Instagram earlier in the week. Does it herald, as many expect, a new Slayer album in 2015? Is it the genesis of their pivotal post-Hanneman/Lombardo/Rubin album? Or is Kerry King just a huge Fraiser fan? I guess we'll let time decide.
At least we know Dave Lombardo isn't planning a Slayer comeback. He's more than content with his current project PHILM, telling Metal Hammer regarding a possible return to Slayer's drummer's stool: "No. That's it. I'm done now. I've got lots of other things on my plate and I now know that, when it comes to money, you don't have any friends in this business. I won't ever be going back." No friends in this business? Maybe my friend George Washington will change your mind! (Sorry, I need that back for the parking meter.)
Speaking of money, here's a name that might send shivers down the spine of your PayPal account: Blake Judd. The Nachtmystium frontman is again accused of making away with fans' money without delivering the merch. Whether or not there's any validity to the allegations, the Nachtmystium Facebook page is no more.
As for albums that have a good chance of finding your hands, Iron Maiden have embarked on a huge reissue project. Not only will their entire '80s run get repressed on vinyl, but the original singles are making their way back in print, too. Check out the details plus release schedule below along with a shot-for-shot LEGO remake of Maiden killing "The Wicker Man" from Rock in Rio. Everything is awesome.
Corrosion of Conformity will also be reissuing two of their albums on wax, 1991's Blind and 1994's breakout Deliverance. The band is set to hit the road with GWAR later this year.
For new stuff, the mighty Moss will be putting out an EP on the perfect date of October 31 via their own Stone Tapes. Check out "Carmilla (Marcilla)" below. The adventurous Manes have penciled in October 10 as the day for Be All End All through Debemur Morti. And Orange Goblin will add to the mountainous October pile of anticipated releases with the long-awaited Back From The Abyss, out on October 7 through Candlelight Records.
In live show notes, the first round of bands for Roadburn 2015 have been announced, tapping cowgoths Fields Of The Nephilim along with stoners Monolord and Electric Citizen. In other fest news, Housecore Horror Fest lost Satyricon and gained Napalm Death and Origin. Satyricon had to kill all of their US dates, so, alas, they will not be playing Knotfest.
If you were catching some High-A baseball action, you may have seen Exmortus shredding through "The Star-Spangled Banner." Sleepy Hollow has taught me that Francis Scott Key probably would've been like, "Hell yeah," before punching a demon in the face. History, man.
Finally, in more serious news, former Metal Maniacs editor Katherine Ludwig has non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Metal Maniacs certainly helped school a generation of extreme metalheads before the Internet. Check out her Facebook page for more information including donations. Wishing her the best.
YOB's 'Clearing The Path To Ascend' artwork
Now that you're, ahem, fully briefed, let's recap all of the A/V transmissions.
Full albums first: YOB streamed the entirety of Clearing The Path To Ascend at Pitchfork (September 2, Neurot Recordings - preorder). And OSDMers Disinterred have put up Live at Vlamrock 2014 for 'name your price' at their Bandcamp. Stream the latter below.
For single tracks and videos, Opeth gave the audio of "Eternal Rains Will Come" a visual. Consult your doctor before taking all of the drugs. Anaal Nathrakh have unveiled "Idol" from Desideratum (October 28, Metal Blade - preorder). They'll be playing Maryland Deathfest 2015. Obituary are also showing off the first cut from Inked in Blood (October 28, Relapse - preorder). They'll be touring later this year with Death to All along with dates with Carcass. 1349 have stirred the pot for Massive Cauldron of Chaos and "Exorcism" spilled out (September 30, Season of Mist - preorder). And Old Wounds -- who are heading out on an Invisible Oranges presented tour -- dropped "Ritual" from Death Projection (September 16, Good Fight - preorder). Stream all of the tracks below.
Got it? Good. To shows we go:
TODAY (FRIDAY 8/29): Provided you're not following up on your dream last night where Crüe played, today is loaded. Mouth of the Architect, Set And Setting, So Hideous, and Hush are at the Acheron (tickets). Meanwhile, the Paper Box has the enormous bill of Foreign Sounds, Sol y Nieve, Red Stream, Inc, Krieg, Horrendous, Wastelander, Sacristy, Human Bodies, and Dweller In The Valley (tickets). For those that like it with a more traditional/thrash lean, there's Fantom Warior, Castrator, Sacrificial Blood, Devolving Messiah, and Maximum Oversatan at Saint Vitus (tickets).
SATURDAY (8/30): Okay, deep breath. Punk? You got it: Negative Approach, Agitätor, Go Deep, and Spewing Cum at the Grand Victory (tickets). Want a slightly more metallic edge? Pig Destroyer at GWAR-B-Q, 2013 (More by Josh Sisk)
Ah, the dominoes are starting to fall: If Agoraphobic Nosebleed are going to play a show, the related Pig Destroyer are going to play two. The grinders now have dates on the horizon, December 19 in Boston and December 20 in Philadelphia, with the possibility of more on the way. Relapse Records will also be pressing Mass & Volume for the first time which was released digitally last year. The wax will hit the streets on October 14.
And if Pig Destroyer are gearing up, baseball grinders Puig Destroyer are getting ready for the postseason. The band featuring members from Thrice, Curl Up and Die, and Kowloon Walled City have signed to No Sleep Records and will release a new self-titled album digitally on September 30. Attention teams that aren't the Red Sox: It'll probably be cheaper than Rusney Castillo. You can check out the track "Mike Trout" below.
Speaking of new releases, we now have a cover for At the Gates' At War With Reality. It's a silhouette illusion you can use for self-diagnosis: See two hands? Go to the doctor. See two men smoking? Go to the doctor. Seriously: that's not a pimple. Go to the doctor. Check it out below.
In other visual teases, Today Is The Day have offered up a trailer for the seriously heavy Animal Mother. The album will be out on October 14 via Southern Lord Records. And if you don't mind taking a shower in two minutes, Animal Mother's pitch-perfect movie accompaniment can be viewed below.
October 14 is also the date of release for blackened sludgesters Inter Arma's The Cavern, a single track 40 minute EP coming out courtesy of Relapse. You can watch a trailer for that below.
A trailer triumvirate, you say? Why not. The MDF-bound/DTA-joining Obituary also have samples rolling on YouTube for the forthcoming Inked In Blood. That one is also coming out through Relapse on October 28. Check it out below. . . and marvel at Relapse's productivity. And then feel bad about your comparative slothfulness. Seriously: get off the couch and go to the doctor.
Another icon had an announcement this week: With Brutal Truth done, Dan Lilker will have time for other endeavors, including thrashers Nuclear Assault who may cut a new album and tour in the near future. Lilker will also be working on Nokturnal Hellstorm, Blurring, and Venomous Concept. Retired Dan Lilker, taking it easy.
Finally, if you're going to do something right, you might as well do it yourself. That's the rationale behind tech-deathers Defeated Sanity's next split. . . with themselves. "YES, we will record a SPLIT album with ourselves!!" the band said through a statement. "One side will be the most brutal, more simple, more caveman Brutal Death that we ever made - but don't worry it will NOT be boring!! The other side will be everything else. Technical, oldschool, progressive - just like we love to hear it from our old Prog Thrash&Death heros [sic] but of course we do it in our own way!" Do you, Defeated Sanity. Always do you.
Now that you're, ahem, fully briefed, let's recap all of the A/V transmissions.
If you were wondering if the streams dried up, this week was a flood. First, here are the full albums: The soon-to-be-touring Opeth unveiled Pale Communion (August 26, Roadrunner Records - preorder). . . on a Euro-only site. Argh, so close! As for things readily available, Midnight dropped No Mercy for Mayhem on the Hells Headbangers bandcamp. Solstafir showcased all of Ótta (September 2, Season of Mist - preorder). And Principality Of Hell offered up the venomous Fire & Brimstone. (Note: Invisible Oranges interviewed both Opeth and Solstafir frontmen recently if you want to know more.) All streams appear below.
As for the singles, we got a taste of Death Penalty's self-titled LP debut (September 16, Rise Above Records - preorder). You can also check out an interview with Rise Above head Lee Dorrian at Invisible Oranges. A music video for Uncle Acid and the Deadbeat's "Runaway Girls" has been made available. Uncle Acid are cycling through North America in September. Lo-Pan, who are hitting the road with Black Cobra and will play an Invisible Oranges-presented show, tossed out a track from Colossus (October 7, Small Stone - preorder). In addition, Small Stone was flooded earlier in the month and you can help out. Witch Mountain showed off another from singer Uta Plotkin's farewell, Mobile Of Angels (October 6, Profound Lore). Classic gore-hounds Necrophagia are back with the first transmission from WhiteWorm Cathedral (October 28, Season of Mist - preorder). And death metallers Lago have dropped a cut from Tyranny (September 16, Battleground Records). Check out all the songs below.
Got it? Good. To shows we go:
TODAY (FRIDAY, 8/23): The speedy and now-signed Bat, Chainbreaker, and Iron Force step into the Acheron (tickets). Meanwhile, Europa has a blast of old-school punk with Off!, Bad Antics, and Gay Kiss (tickets).
SATURDAY (8/24): At Red Hook's Pioneer Works, the suddenly touring Liturgy, Wreck and Reference, White Suns, and Kyle Eyre Clyd will play a matinee (tickets). That should leave you enough time to either get your shred on at Saint Vitus with Earthless, The Shrine, and Mirror Queen (tickets). Or to go punk with Vile Intent, NARC, and Limbs Bin at the Acheron (tickets).
SUNDAY (8/24): Jorge Elbrecht's new band Coral Cross (who just made their live debut earlier this week, play a late-night set.
Looking for late adds and dates ahead? NYC Metal Show Calendar has got you covered.
Let's talk IO: New releases? Tons of them: Upcoming Metal Releases recounts them. Want the word straight from the artists themselves? We had interviews with Lee Dorrian and Ex-Breathers. Fresh tunes? We had those, too: Megaton Leviathan and Abazagorath. We also went deep on Pallbearer's freshly released Foundations of Burden. Finally, Scab Casserole either made you smile or caused you to destroy your keyboard with his breakdown of Agalloch's career.
Alright, consider the decks cleared. What did we miss? What are your plans? Let us know and catch the reams of streams, and other noted details below.

Tombs at Saint Vitus in July (more by Greg Cristman)
Maryland Deathfest is getting a little more New Yawk with the late addition of NY old-school death metal band Suffocation and Skinless and Brooklyn's own post-metal greats Tombs. Suffocation and Tombs will be playing will be playing the Edison Lot, and Skinless will be playing the 5/21 Ottobar show. MDF announced their third and supposedly final round of bands for the 2015 installation earlier in the week, a bunch that included Yob, Amorphis, Agoraphobic Nosebleed and more.
Tombs and Suffocation will be touring this coming Fall, Tombs with Pallbearer and Vattnet Viskar (who are also playing MDF). That tour hits Saint Vitus on 10/27 and 10/28. The show on the 27th is sold out, but tickets are still available for the show on the 28th. Suffocation, meanwhile, will be headlining the "Carnival of Death" tour with Kataklysm, Jungle Rot, Pyrexia, and Internal Bleeding. That tour starts off at the Gramercy Theatre on October 3. Tickets are on sale.
All dates and updated MDF lineup below...
by Ian Chainey
The final round of bands for Maryland Deathfest 2015 was announced and a stacked lineup was stacked even higher. The highlights are numerous, including Agoraphobic Nosebleed's first live set, Amorphis playing their classic Tales from the Thousand Lakes in its entirety, Inverloch jamming out tunes from their former incarnation diSEMBOWELMENT, super-deathers Bloodbath playing an exclusive US show, and ripping speed-metallers (and suddenly influential) Razor making their first appearance in the States in over two decades. The full list of bands featuring other big names -- YOB, Obituary, and Cephalic Carnage to name a few -- appears below.
In addition to the adds, MDF XIII also announced the stages the bands will be playing, including Thursday pre-fest shows filled out by YOB, Ufommamut, Internal Bleeding, Origin, and others. The exact schedule will be pinned down at the end of August. All ticket options will go on sale September 5 at 3 PM. The early bird sold out in record time, so be on the ball for that one.
The third round of bands along with the stage rundowns appears below.

Death To All at Irving Plaza in 2013 (more by Wyatt Marshall)
Death to All (Death DTA), the touring Death tribute frequently featuring ex-members, will be touring in November. The Swamp Leper Stomp Tour will also include Massacre, Rivers of Nihil, and Obituary, who are also playing East Coast Tsunami Fest. The tour will hit locations like Seattle, Chicago, and Boston. On November 30, the bands will land in NYC's Best Buy Theater. Tickets for that show go on sale Friday, August 8 at noon. The full list of dates -- including a handful featuring just Death DTA -- can be found below.
Though a lineup for the North American dates hasn't been announced, Death DTA toured Europe in June with Paul Masvidal (Human), Sean Reinert (Human), Steve DiGiorgio (Human, Individual Thought Patters, Symbolic), and Max Phelps. The tribute will also be hitting South America in September and you can find those dates on the flyer below. The original Death came to a halt with the passing of leader Chuck Schuldiner in 2001.
As for the others, Massacre, who have been an underground name in death metal since 1984, released Back from Beyond, their first album since reforming in 2011. Young bucks Rivers of Nihil cut their LP debut, The Conscious Seed of Light, last year. And Obituary are working on releasing their crowdfunded effort Inked in Blood through Relapse Records sometime in late October. They're currently making the rounds on the Euro festival circuit.
All dates are listed, along with a Death DTA live video, below...

Agnostic Front at Power of the Riff, 2012 (more by Greg Cristman)
After saving This is Hardcore Fest by filling in, Agnostic Front sit atop the first round of announced bands at East Coast Tsunami Fest 2014. The initial lineup posted on Stereokiller not only includes the NYHCers, but bands such as Ignite, Sick of it All, Cro-Mags, and. . . Obituary. Makes sense when you think about it. Anyway, the fest takes place on September 26 through September 28 at Reverb in Reading, Pennsylvania. Ticket information will be announced soon. Full lineup below.
Agnostic Front and many other hardcore bands, including Bad Brains, Gorilla Biscuits, Bold, Born Against, Judge, Misfits, Murphy's Law, Quicksand, Rorschach, Sheer Terror, Sick of It All, Youth of Today and still more, have also been interviewed for the new book NYHC: New York Hardcore 1980-1990 that's coming out on Bazillion Points in November. The Tony Rettman-authored oral history takes on the formative decade and apparently goes pretty deep. According to Bazillion:
Tony Rettman's ambitious oral history captures ten years of struggle, including the scene's regional rivalries with D.C. and Boston, the birth of moshing, the clash and coming to terms of hardcore and heavy metal, the straightedge movement, and the unlikely influence of Krishna consciousness. That thing must be longer than John Joseph's resume.

Obituary at Scion Rock Fest 2011 (more by Adam Murray)
Death metal greats Obituary are channeling their warm fuzzy side for Metal Meowlisha IV: A Headbangers Furball, a show to be held at The Brass Mug in Tampa, FL on December 21 for the benefit of the area's feral cats. Obituary drummer Donald Tardy runs a charity with his wife called Metal Meowlisha that endorses the "trap-neuter-return" policy for homeless cats endorsed by the ASPCA, and the show's proceeds will go to Metal Meowlisha to continue their efforts at controlling the Tampa cat population, feeding and providing medical care for cats, and helping adoptable cats find homes. The Metal Meowlisha embraces a no-kill ideology--whenever possible.
Obituary enlisted fellow death and grind forerunners Terrorizer and Exhumed to fight the good fight for kitties, making this a pretty stacked show for ten bucks, nine if you bring a donation of a can of cat food. Full lineup and flier below.
Obituary guitarist Trevor Perez will be cooking up some BBQ at the show, too. Metal Meowlisha IV isn't the first time Obituary's shown a propensity for BBQ and crowdsourcing--back in September, Obituary raised so much money to record their new album, hitting their $10k goal in under 24 hours, they planned a BBQ to celebrate. That album's due out in 2014.
Obituary recently rolled through Saint Vitus for two sold-out shows as part of a two-month period that ended up being a celebration of old school death metal in NYC with shows from Morbid Angel, Deicide and Carcass. Godflesh would have rounded it out, but they had to cancel due to visa troubles, reportedly caused by a slowdown due to the government shutdown. They've since rescheduled for next April.
No word on if the Metaldudes Cats Book crew will be in attendance at the Metal Meowlisha show. Tickets aren't available right meow, so might as well bring a can of cat food with you on the day of the show.
Check out the flier for this year's Metal Meowlisha and an incredible promo video from last year's below...

Deicide at Gramercy Theater in 2012 (more by Johnathan McPhail)
Death metal legends Deicide are about to embark on the "No Salvation Tour" with Broken Hope, Disgorge and Necronomicon that wraps up right before the release date of their new album, In the Minds of Evil, on November 25. The tour hits NYC on October 6 at Gramercy Theater. Tickets for that show are on sale now, and we're also giving away a few pairs tonight (9/24) on Invisible Oranges on East Village Radio, so listen in from 10-12PM EST for a chance to win. All tour dates are listed below.
The next couple of months will see a number of death metal legends heading to NYC. Carcass, fresh off releasing an excellent comeback album, are bringing their tour to NYC this week for sold out shows at Saint Vitus (9/25) and Gramercy Theatre (9/26) with Immolation. We'll be giving away tickets to the Carcass show at Gramercy Theatre tonight on Invisible Oranges on East Village Radio, too, so be sure to tune in.
Likewise, we'll be giving away tickets to the NYC stop of Morbid Angel's previously discussed Covenant 20th Anniversary tour, which happens on November 12 at Irving Plaza and sees the band playing the classic album in its entirety. The contest for that show will be on a future IO EVR show. Tickets for the Irving date are still available.
Another death metal tour hitting NYC is Obituary, who are prepping a new album and doing a previously discussed two-night run at Saint Vitus on October 9 and 10. Tickets for night 1 and night 2 are still available.
All lists of tour dates below...
by Doug Moore
We mentioned a few weeks ago that death metal legends Obituary are hitting the road in October. We also mentioned at the time that Obituary are funding their upcoming album via Kickstarter. At the time, Obituary had already hit their initial $10k goal.
Now, with four days left in their campaign, Obituary are a few thousand bucks shy of the $50k mark. This figure is relatively small potatoes by Kickstarter standards, but it's still impressive for a traditionally impoverished genre like death metal.
How do Obituary plan to spend their embarrassment of excess riches? By throwing a barbecue, of course:
We're going to invite all of our band member friends (from all of your favorite Florida Death Metal acts) to the studio for what will be a sort-of BBQ shindig, beer drinking, hell raising, free-for-all jam session / album release party...and we will perform a new song from the album!I have some qualms about bands using Kickstarter to fund their albums, and this is kinda why. How many people who backed the album will really have a chance to attend this party? That said, I bet this plan will go over well with said backers, and I have no doubt that the "Redneck Studio BBQ and Free-For-All Jam Session" will have some delicious, uh, proteins for consumption (and perhaps some vegan options?).
We're calling the whole thing "Obituary's Redneck Studio BBQ and Free-For-All Jam Session" and we will be live streaming the entire thing, including the new song for all of the backers. We'll be doing this thing around November (may change), and we will update you on who will be there as they confirm. It's been a while since our last album release party, and this guest list is looking pretty unbelievable right now.
To top it off - we will be taking and answering questions from the backers during the live stream.
Contribute to Obituary's Kickstarter if you really want to find out what Jon Tardy looks like in a speedo. Their tour kicks off with a two-night stand at Saint Vitus on October 9 and 10; tickets are still available.
Check out the full run of Obituary tour dates, listed below.
Death metal titans Obituary have already surpassed their funding goal for a new LP by more than 300%, crowdsourcing withl 16 days to go! Now comes the road-testing, and though other dates still remain to be seen, Obituary will headline Saint Vitus on October 9 & 10 before heading to Trois-Rivières Metalfest in Canada. Tickets are on sale.

After playing a FREE show at Acheron a couple weeks ago, Seraphim will return to play with Pilgrim, Dutchguts and The Year is One on December 15th at Saint Vitus. The band is returning form a recent stint of dates with Pulling Teeth overseas.
Windhand will team with NATUR and Pilgrim for a 3/1 show at Public Assembly. Windhand ripped it at Acheron in their last outing, and their new LP out soon on Forcefield is gold. Ordering details are forthcoming but doom fans, you need this one.
As previously discussed, Brain Killer will lead a Nick Poot memorial show on 11/26 at Tommy's Tavern. Joining the band will be Green Beret, featuring members of the great Social Circkle. Check out their demo above and buy a cassette copy via their label. Social Circkle also recently released their Expiration Date EP via Side Two, check out "No I Won't" from that release above. Fans of 80s style hardcore take note of both.

Elitist are in town this week, and will play NYC at Acheron on 10/24 with Sea of Bones, Alkahest, and Sannhet (who support Bison BC on Monday). Don't miss them. They ripped at Cake Shop with Gaza in their last go-around.
No Statik (mems Artimus Pyle, Scrotum Grinder, Look Back And Laugh) released a killer LP this year with We All Die In The End, out now on Prank Records. The band will bring their brutal live show to the East Coast for a set of dates that will include NYC on 1/7 at Acheron. Don't miss it. Check out some live video below for further proof.
Support has been added to BOTH previously discussed Thrones/Danava shows. Caltrop and Psychic Limb (who play a boat for CMJ on 10/22) will support at Acheron on 10/27, while 10/28 at Union Pool will mean Ben von Wildenhaus and La Otracina.
Obituary have added a string of East Coast dates, including NYC at Santos Party House on 11/19 with Denial Fiend. Ticketing info is forthcoming.
If, for some reason, you still follow Fu Manchu, look for them and Santos on 11/15 with Honky (J.D. Pinkus of Butthole Surfers) and Shrine. The band will performing all of In Search Of in its entirety. Tickets are on sale.
Brain Killer will headline a Nick Poot Memorial on 11/26 at Tommy's Tavern with Green Beret, which features members of Social Circkle.
More suggested NON-CMJ NYC shows (look for a CMJ guide momentarily), some flyers, and some video below....
Two outdoor tents, a club, and a theater hosted 26 bands. Perhaps by design, the premises lacked alcohol (except for the theater). So bad behavior was scarce. Fans happily bounced from venue to venue, queuing for some bands (Wormrot, Floor, Atheist, Obituary, Morbid Angel), and eating burgers from the Grill 'Em All trucks. To order the Witte Burger (beef, bun, cream cheese, deep-fried bacon, beer-and-Sriracha-soaked onions, malt vinegar aioli), my friend Robert merely pointed several feet away, where Dave Witte himself was standing.Saturday (3/5) was the left coast's turn for Scion Rock Fest 2011. The one day, multiple venue festival relocated to Pomona, CA this year, and housed legendary names like Morbid Angel, Obituary, Integrity, Agalloch, and many more alongside names of tomorrow and underground favorites like Bastard Noise, Anaal Nathrakh, Floor, Wormrot, and many more.
Kvelertak were supposed to play too. but their passports and visas were stolen at the airport moments before they boarded the plane to the US. As a result, they'll also miss some days of the Weedeater/Zoroaster tour, but should "be in the states by Friday" (3/11). That means they should have no trouble making it to SXSW where they're on board to play Full Metal Texas. The band was replaced in Pomona by Black Cobra.
More pictures and some videos from Scion Rock Fest 2011, below...
Yob at Scion Rock Fest 2010 (more)
Scion has confirmed exclusively to LA Weekly that they will be bringing their metaltastic Rock Fest this year to Southern California.Rumors circulated right around the announcement of Scion Rock Fest 2010 that Morbid Angel would play that year's show. Glad to hear that those were (somewhat) true. Hopefully Morbid Angel schedule some shows outside of California too.
"Scion's major event of the year," confirms their publicist, "is a huge metal festival with four stages and 30 bands. We did the first in Atlanta and the second in Columbus [check out part one and and two of our pics & review]. It's always a mix of legendary bands, important bands and up-and-coming bands, representing all the areas of underground metal. And like all the stuff we do it's all ages and free."
"What no one knows yet," he continues "is the next one will be on March 5, 2011 in Pomona. We're taking over the Fox Theater and the Glass House and building two more stages nearby."
Headlining the Scion Rock Fest in the LA area will be death metal royalty Morbid Angel with their first US show in six years (and as of now, the only scheduled US date in 2011)
...Founding member guitarist Trey Azagthoth, regarded by many as the greatest death metal guitarist of all time, will be at the helm along with bassist David Vincent (member 1986-1996 & 2004 - present) and Destructhor (member since 2008).
The Scion Rock Fest will include 26 bands on four stages (including The Fox Theater, The Glass House and two outdoor stages). -[LA Weekly]
One of the bigger names at Scion Rock Fest in 2010 was Shrinebuilder. Don't forget that half of Shrinebuilder, Scott Kelly and Wino, are going on a solo tour in February. Tickets are still on sale for the February 12th Mercury Lounge show which now looks like this:
Scott Kelly (of Neurosis) 11:30You can also catch all of Liturgy (who played Scion Rock Fest 2010) on January 14th At Silent Barn with Controlled Bleeding, Cellular Chaos, PAK, and Diablo, January 27th at Union Pool with Naam, Yr Youth, and Arms, February 10th at Glasslands with Extra Life, Lichens, and Chaos Majik, and February 25th At Monster Island Basement with Talk Normal and Nat Baldwin. More local metal shows are listed in the latest edition of Evillive.
Wino (of Saint Vitus) 10:30
Man's Gin (of Cobalt) 9:30
Hunter Hunt-Henrix (of Liturgy) 8:30
The PRP is also reporting a rumored list of other artists playing Scion Rock Fest 2011. I can confirm that at least half of a dozen of those are true. That list is reprinted below...

YOB Live (hevisto)
Out this week, the return of the mighty YOB with their absolutely colossal new album The Great Cessation.
