Osoosooso, the other project of JD of State Lines, hails from Long Island, and one listen to a track off their upcoming self-titled debut shows they’ve absorbed the sounds of their hometown, a breeding ground for early ’00s emo bands like Brand New, Taking Back Sunday, The Movielife and countless others. Its newest single, “Safe,” masters the pop punk leanings of those bands’ earlier releases like Your Favorite Weapon and Has a Gambling Problem, but does so without ever falling into the trap of pop punk meaning “pop with guitars” or forgetting that emo is short for “emotional.” The band’s approach is raw, unfiltered, and honest, and recommended for anyone who still has a place in their heart for that early ’00s era.

“Safe” makes its premiere in this post, and you can stream it, along with another track from the album, “Neighbors” (via Property of Zack), below. The record comes out on March 11 via Soft Speak, and you can pre-order it now. Artwork and tracklist below too.

Osoosooso are currently on the road with The Hotelier, having just hit NYC when that tour crossed paths with the Adventures / Run Forever tour at Suburbia earlier this month (2/1). Unfortunately, no more NYC shows on the horizon at the moment, but there’s a ton of other dates, all of which are listed, along with the song streams and more, below…
