BrooklynVegan is returning to Pianos on the Lower East Side of Manhattan this year for another free 2-floor day show during CMJ. The date is Thursday October 23rd. The times are noon to 5:30 PM. The initial lineup is Peasant (an encore BV Pianos performance), Pwrfl POWER, Merge Records' Wye Oak, the one and only Phosphorescent, The Muslims, Crystal Antlers, Friendly Fires, and as someone figured out, Sebastien Grainger (check out our interview with the ex-DFA1979er) (his official showcase is at Mercury Lounge). As always, this party is 100% free. Full lineup and schedule TBA very soon!

Not free: the Tuesday night BV showcase at Music Hall of Williamsburg.

Also free: another BrooklynVegan day party. Announcement coming soon!

Parenthetical Girls can be very touching

Evangelicals bring the creepiness to Cake Shop's basement

Parethetical Girls played an emotional, energetic and crowd-interactive show in the cozy basement of Cake shop last night (Oct 02). It was the first show PG played here in a while - their last scheduled NYC appearance was cancelled due to mechanical issues. Pwrfl Power, who played a show at Union Hall one night earlier, was in the crowd...and blogged about it...

I headed to Cake Shop after dinner where my big brothers Parenthetical Girls played.
They played very good. it gets better everytime.
I didn't catch the Evangelicals.

He missed another great set then. Miracles of Modern Science and Muggabears were also on the four-artist bill. Rude Bear was also in the house. More pictures below...

Damien Jurado

Currently on tour in support of his latest album Caught in the Trees, the newly married Damien Jurado played a 1.5 hour set at Union Hall in Brooklyn last night (October 1). He also played Mercury Lounge in Manhattan one night earlier.

The famous Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson (with full band) and the quirky PWRFL Power opened the show which was great from start to finish (says Kyle).

Damien also visited WNYC's Soundcheck while he was here. You can stream that interview and performance at their site. More pictures from last night below...
